Like many on this site Blues & Soul was a must read, for the majority of the 70's. Although Dave Godin wrote more thought provoking articles, John's reviews of new releases convinced me to buy a number of prized LP's and singles blind. A walk up the steps at 23 (if I remember correctly) Hanway St, always resulted in walking away with less cash than intended.
  8. Millie Jackson - House for Sale Maxine Brown - It seems you've forsaken my love Bobby Womack - How could you break my heart
  9. Off the top of my head - the following are rarely played once You Got Me - Jaibi Come See Whats Left Of Me - Bobby Hutton It Seems You've Forsaken My Love - Maxine Brown Walk Away From Love - David Ruffin House For Sale - Millie Jackson
  10. Either It seems you've forsaken my love - Maxine Brown or Why can't we be lovers - Holland and Dozier
  11. Sweet understanding love - Four tops Me and baby brother - Meters Come on and go with me - Pockets You don't have to be a star - Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jnr Bad Luck - Harold Melvin I can understand it - New Birth Doin it to Death - Fred Wesley & the JB's Lonely Days Lonely Nights - Don Downing Jnr
  12. I can't believe Sidney is in the lead. The next thing you'll find is Leicester winning the Premier league!!! You live and learn. For me no contest Jerry by a country mile.

RIP Bobby, One of the true underrated soul giants Need to go and play 'Taylor Made Soul' to remember it's true brilliance
  14. Would the following be classed as crossover or modern? You Can't Blame Me - Johnson, Hawkins, Tatum & Durr
  15. Never heard this before, but it may be the best new to me sound of the last 10 years.
  16. Always been one of my favs, would definitely be buying If I didn't already have it.
  17. The fact that there are only 153 posts, some of which have drifted a long way from the initial question makes me think, and I seriously hope I'm wrong, that apart from the Nostalgia scene the answer is NO.
  18. I couldn't agree more. It is ages since I went to a do , but my aim was always to hear current top tunes, hopefully with a number of new (whether brand new or old) tunes to my ears. I can't say I started by thinking god I hope this is OV or I will leave this dance floor/club immediately! If anything I have always hated cover ups more than repros as at least they acknowledged the artist and allowed you to search for the holy grail rather than a falkse god! It has always been about the music for me and ideally yes on brand new vinyl/CD so the artists gets their dues.
  19. If you bought it.
  20. R.I.P Otis. One of the few artists who consistently delivered throughout a long career. Highlights are numerous but 'You hurt me for the last time' and 'Live in Japan' CD have gained maximum speaker time and one of the best I have had the pleasure to see live.
  21. I haven't been clubbin for eons, so I am not the best placed to comment, however, it seems to me that a large number of venues doesn't sound like something killing a scene. If there were les nights doing the same the arguements would still remain the same. From everything I have read it sounds as though there are two scenes one built completely on nostalgia of folk trying to relive their youth, to each his own, and another where an also mainly ageing group aim to maintain the tradition of finding rare soul (which gets harder each year IMHO).
  22. Darrell Banks and Jack Montgomery from the Northern sphere. Then I'd throw in Ms Grace/Crutch by the Tymes for a mainstream/deep soul bargain basement delight
  23. I sae Ruby approx 20 years ago. Great voice and performer, definitely an unsung UK artist.
  24. You Got Me - Jaibi I might have needed carrying out afterwards though
  25. The following are the three tunes I would end any soul night with if I were behind the decks, irrespective of whether northern, modern or anything else for that matter. What would yours be? Too Late - Mandrill Its An Uphill Climb To The Bottom - Walter Jackson Why Can't We Be Lovers - Holland & Dozier
