Old Soul Tunes-new Blood
================ So there is a potential divide? Which is possibly why Paul made his original point, as he may well want to hear tainted love alongside a cover up? Just food for thought, not saying or making any statements of fact, just an observation Winnie:-)

Old Soul Tunes-new Blood
=================== I'm not sure why we're not allowed to say classics, I've heard many classics played at the 100, it's always mixed and matched, but that's why it's still the number one nighter in the country musically. If there is no divide then I stand corrected, perhaps ALL venues should have a more across the board policy?? Room for everyone don't you think?? And all on the same dance floor I would hope Winnie:-)

Old Soul Tunes-new Blood
============== Do you think maybe he can see a definite split appearing on the scene? Maybe Paul wants to hear some classic oldies in amongst a set of 'upfront' sounds. The thing that struck me when I came back on the scene was the old divide, Wigan vs Mecca, wasn't as pronounced. Venues played tracks right across the board despite which venue they originated from, which meant better quality music overall. With the advent of this new style 'upfront', I can only see another split, particularly with people saying if you like this, go here etc. What's wrong with us all being on common ground? Winnie:-)

Old Soul Tunes-new Blood
============== I'm sure that certain records such as I walked away (which I asked for on Saturday) evoke memories and that's why they're still popular and in demand. They usually put you in a time and place, but what they also do is inspire. I've asked this question before, but if you wanted to describe Northern, and you were going to use records to do it, would you give them tried and tested oldies or 'upfront'. The lads only 14, if he stays with northern, he'll make his own mind up over the coming years, force feed 'upfront' now and he may drift away, because it is a very different style from the more classic sound he's currently used to. Winnie:-)

Old Soul Tunes-new Blood
============== We clearly left an imprint on the Nick Hancock wannabees Getting back on topic, your son may like some of the more commercial sounds at the moment, but 'time marches on', and I'm sure he'll move with the times. The important thing is, as Chalky says, is enjoy what he enjoys, not be told what is good Winnie:-)

Underground? Is It Just A Saying
=============== Not sure if this falls within the topic's boundaries, but supposedly we all love northern soul. Do we not want EVERYBODY to love it as well, and enjoy it the way we do, or would we prefer to keep it underground? Winnie:-)

Soul Night, Allnighter, Alldayer
=============== Prefer nighters for the general buzz, and feeling safe in the knowledge past 3 most of the people left are really soulies Do more soul nights these days though, as my recovery period has lengthened As for who I go with, no major emphasis on any of the groups/people mentioned, and if I really want to go somewhere, quite happy going by myself, I'm always aware there'll be someone there I know when I arrive at my destination ;-) Winnie:-)

Play Lists, Are They A Good Thing?
============ Soz Shane, was responding to other points made earlier. On the original point..... is it playlists or the DJs names that influence us. Playlists after the event only tells you what was played on that particular night. Where knowing the rep of a DJ, through constant good performances might be a better yardstick? Winnie:-)

Play Lists, Are They A Good Thing?
=================== Have to be careful what I say, as I don't want to be accused of being argumentative Oh bollox to it Thing is it's not generally from both sides, usually it's the views come from the 'upfront brigade', who are determined to educate. Most oldies fans can't be bothered to take part in these debates, cos they get shot down by the same people all the time. And most of the posts start with "I still like oldies but....." and then go on to extol the virtues of newies/upfront. If it is about opinions, which in my view it is, then both sides are allowed to voice one. The only reason they degenerate into battles, IMO, is the upfront crowd are so certain of themselves. I've seen things like playlists tell me it's a played out oldies venue, I still feel this is disrespectful, and mocks the vast majority of people who are currently on the scene. Stuart's right I did smile at the comment made by fenman, although hardly a cosy giggle/laugh (can't remember exactly) but he also knows I was a regular at the Dome which was considered very upfront. The 100 club the same. Can't comment properly on lifeline, because I haven't been to enough of them, but have enjoyed the ones I've been too. What I don't like is the elitist attitude that constantly comes across, and once again this is why these posts degenerate into newies/oldies battles of a sort. Perhaps it's time for the newies/upfront brigade to stop alienating potential customers with their santimonious condescending views and talk in softer tones. Yeah your upfront, yeah you like rarities, yeah some of them are good, now get over yourselves, and stop dividing the scene!! Winnie:-) PS. Hope Rach's original point was accurate and we are allowed to give veiws from, "From both sides"

Play Lists, Are They A Good Thing?
Would depend why the playlists are posted, someone touched on it earlier, if it's to say look what I've got in my box, it's very boring to dancers, but the 'chin strokers' on the other hand would love it I suppose. A DJ in particular might make me travel, but not his actual playlist, cos there's no guarantee he'll play the same records again, in fact as elitists you'd probably hope he/she didn't?? Winnie:-)
