  1. ============= Was replying to Baz Mark, think it was him who said Sam made the record. I honestly don't know if it's mediocre or not, because I'm not generally exposed to soulful house, I think it fits with the current northern scene that's all. Baz is doing me a CD so I can upgrade my knowledge of said genre, then hopefully I'd be able to judge for myself whether it can be the northen scene's salvation. That's talking from a, it could die soon perspective and I don't want it to
  2. =========== Wasn't Sam who I heard play it first, but I did like it as soon as I heard it. There are probably loads of better soulful house records, but then I'm not generally going to hear them in a northern room am I. Pretty much think Sam has earnt his reputation over the years by the way
  3. =========== Hasn't been played out cos it's pop for the white man's charts
  4. =========== Not sure, as far as I know you're a salmon??
  5. =========== With whom as an audience? We can't sustain it we're too old, unless you want to see it as a tea dance with catheters supplied. Winnie:-)
  6. ================ Can't comment as I haven't heard it, have you got a sound clip?
  7. ============ When I first came back on the scene about 9 years ago, I wanted to hear sounds I was familiar with. Going out every week all over the country changed that and I wanted to hear different stuff. That hasn't really changed, but of all the different types of music within the scene that I've sampled R&B, mid-tempo etc, I prefer modern. Personally I see it as a natural progression or more of an extension of the northern scene, than the other genre's I've mentioned. It's only a personal opinion, but no one is going to sustain this scene of ours if they only want to hear 6Ts, particularly if they are 6Ts newies devotees. Not enough quality being discovered, and not enough people interested. Most people on this scene know what they like already, and are never going to be persuaded otherwise, so far better to get fresh blood in, blank canvas as it were, who are not stuck in a time warp. All the genre's will prevail if played together, without the 'togetherness' northern will die. To me, better to have it played alongside soulful house and modern, than to stand by and witness it's extinction, due to bloody mindedness. Winnie:-)
  8. ============= Rod, my first love is 6Ts northern, has been since the early 7Ts, but I still like modern as well. The truth is I prefer it to the R&B and the mid-tempo stuff as I think it's got more ooomph, so maybe it is down to personal preference on my part. I favour mixing all the genres, because it may help breathe some life into a scene, most of us would prefer had a future, as opposed to being our legacy. Winnie:-)
  9. ================ Steve, I would class it as modern, but in truth I like what I like, so the year doesn't really matter to me. Rog, Never heard the album so can't comment, just love that particular track. Rog, know you're a bit of a modern man, would you class it as modern? Said right at the beginning we needed some guidelines. I'd guess most of us commenting are more northern orientated, so don't have the same insight/views as say you or Catriona. Winnie:-)
  10. Winnie, Guessed you were a man of taste!! Absolutely tremendous record - Corey Glover / Little Girl. Big tune in my car at the moment!! ============ Gorgeous record
  11. ============= Personally I'm quite happy hearing them in the northern room, because they fit. Also keeps things fresh IMO Winnie:-)
  12. =========== That was what I wanted to know, never saw any pitfalls when I asked it Winnie:-)
  13. Coco and Ben Sydney Joe DJ Genesis Wash and wear love (not sure of year) if it isn't 7Ts, don't care still love it Almeta Latimore Corey Glover Sam Dees Fragile
  14. ============ Perhaps you should give some guidelines as in dates: From - To, cos otherwise you're going to get an argument about what constitutes modern? Winnie:-) PS. To save Baz's typing finger "yes it does suck and it's disco"
  15. =========== I never said you said it was crap I think you're blatantly wrong when you describe it as unsoulful. And using your own argument, there is no equation to determine soul, so how can you in the first place say it isn't soul? Winnie:-)
  16. ============ Baz, I know when you believe something you defend that belief to the end, but you're blatantly wrong in this case. This record would probably be in a lot of peoples top 10 or hovering just below, it's that good!! As for 'white man's pop chart', people wanted out of the ghettos, they weren't living in them by choice, making money via selling records, sport, have always been ways out. I doubt the top banana at a record company would have been going into a ghetto to check out who's good or not, he/she would have had agents/scouts to do that. Winnie;-)
  17. ================ Seven seas vitamins hardly counts
  18. ========= I'd always assumed they were cutting records to hit the charts? Anybody help here, were artists cutting records in the 6Ts just to be played in clubs. Not dismissing what you're saying Baz, would just like some confirmation that this was the case. Winnie:-)
  19. =========== Sure somebody will already have said it, but isn't every record made done so for it to be a hit? Presumably they were/are all somebody's idea of pop? Winnie:-)
  20. Not sure what I'm doing Saturday Moldie, but you never know Thanks to Lin, DD Andy, and M.E.V for their replies, all punter friendly just as it should be IMO I would just like to reiterate this was NOT meant as a dig at anybody, just a general enquiry. Winnie:-)
  21. =========== Absolutely awesome record that still moves me now. Soz Baz but it is soulful, amazed you can't feel it?? Each to their own I guess, wouldn't have thought there'd be many agree with you though? Winnie:-)
  22. ===================== Totally random Dave, just wondered what a promoters perspective might be. How do they further their own events, good will etc. My view is that promoters should be in touch with each other wherever possible, so as to avoid clashes, and of course they should believe in their product, in this case the soul scene. Never having promoted an event, (and never would) just thought it might be interesting to the 'normal' soul punter. Winnie:-)
  23. I'm not generally talking about the "big" promoters, more the ones who promote small venues. Should they be out and about every week supporting various venues? To me they should, personally I'm far more interested in attending somewhere if I know the promoter is not only flyering his events, but enjoying others. Gives more a community feeling .......... Well I think it does. Winnie:-)
  24. Just to precis the missing posts. The soulies both young and old admitted they were missing an opportunity to encourage youngsters onto the scene. They also accepted they really need to listen/learn/understand some of this soulful house before commenting further Winnie:-)
  25. ============ well done Mike
