  1. You've forgotten 'BFWAGP' Black Fist Without A Glove Puppet....
  2. The usual suspects will no doubt be there in all their glory....
  3. My daughter went, so I'll ask her if she witnessed this, I'm doubting it though as generally speaking she seems to be of the inebriated hippy variety
  4. Are there many of you centurions left Ady
  5. Just read it on FB as well Dave, incredibly sad, such a lovely girl, MS is a bastard!! RIP Sue sad to see you go xx
  6. Why are you writing in such small type, do you not realise you're addressing a 'spectacle receptacle' the collective noun for a group of Magoos
  7. Wigan Casino Plaque? Why the surprise everybody knows what whizz does to your teeth
  8. Simon did the same topic on a well known social networking site, and I don't think there were any resolutions there either, which gives the impression there is nothing that can be done to avoid clashes!
  9. Being realistic, if there are two nighters on at the same time, how badly does that really affect attendance? The number of regular nighter goers is dwindling, most of the nighters I go to, half the crowd are gone by 2 anyway, and thereafter there's a steady disappearance until at the end there's very few there. The point I'm making is it's not like the old days, it's not even like 15 years ago, people tend to go to what's nearest or what's playing the sort of sound they want to hear. Is there any evidence that if a particular nighter moved their date, another nighter would suddenly benefit hugely in attendees, I'm not talking 10/20/30 bodies, I'm talking hugely. Maybe some of the promoters can answer??
  10. Had no idea. RIP Bob x
  11. What's it like to be successful Matt :) I AM ONLY JOKING, JUST COULDN'T LET THE OPPORTUNITY GO X
  12. I didn't read it, as I have a problem with authority, and want to remain 'a rebel without a clue'
  13. That's the funk scene for you ....
  14. No I don't think it can happen again, the scene as you rightly say is fragmented, too many want to be DJs and promoters who would like a piece of the pie, none of them are going to willingly step aside for 'the good of the scene'. Too many punters who don't want to travel, or listen to anything new, if it were a goer then Stoke or something similar would probably be running every week. It also has to be factored in, would any promoter want to take the time, or devote the energy these days. I'm generally talking from our age groups perspective, should something extraordinary happen via the film promotions and youngsters start to attend events in their droves then perhaps that would change things, but would anybody be convinced that the new 'super club' had been created for anything other than profit?
  15. Yep agree with this, my 50th was a joint effort with four others on the soul scene, we all invited relatives, those that came just got on with it, they knew it was a northern all dayer. We didn't clash with other venues, luckily (as far as I can remember) and used an existing soul venue. (did speak to the promoter first) What it basically became was an extra northern do in between 2 regular dates at the same venue. It never caused a problem.
  16. Respect to anyone who battled against the brylcreem menace
  17. It makes sense (to me) that if you have a local do that you regularly attend, close to you and to your birthday to utilise it. If you don't then have the party where you want it,
  18. They're like small antimacassars* in style, (sort of lace) you usually put them on tables and sometimes on the arm of an armchair. They prevent damage Please note, I said like small antimacassars as opposed to they are... used the example purely to help Kegsy picture one, that of course is assuming he knows what an antimacassar is.
  19. Cheers Chalk, I know I should wash my ears out before indulging in 'record talk'
  20. I think I'm right in saying World of Happiness was first played/discovered by Andy Rix (it was certainly him I heard play it first) subsequently I heard an alternate take that Butch played/broke so who would get the credit in that case? Apologies if I've got this wrong, I don't generally pay much attention during 'record talk'
  21. So something along the lines of Four Vandals, first played by Ian Levine and broken by Ginger over Ian's head at Manchester Ritz
  22. Most of the do's I go to most of the people sit down most of the time, so they should be ok watching a film for a couple of hours :-)
  23. I know you've said it's a private party, and forgive me if you've answered this previously (if you have I haven't seen it) but will it exclusively be a northern do? 'Northern' music, 'northern' punters (as in the guests attending) etc. How often does the promoter run his events, and will the party be on a date somewhere near his soul night? Just interested is all. Cheers Winston
