  1. ============= Can't see why the history should affect anything, loads of different compilations available from different scenes, dance, trance techno, rave etc etc, so one would assume people are interested in the history? If we're meant to discuss whats current, why are we still discussing records that are 40 years old? Mainly because they're the staple of the scene and the predjudice when you go outside this perameter is amazing. Recent threads on John Legend and Amy Winehouse for example prove that. The same people calling for progression are the same people saying these aren't soulful. Wether they are or aren't is a matter of opinion, but you say it to youngsters and you're basically trying to dictate to them. "Don't listen to these records, there are 1000's of underplayed soul records that you should be checking out". Yep 1000's of records from the 6Ts and 7Ts, that's not current, that's history. As was said in the Legend thread, these records may fit my particular outlook on soul, but won't necessarily float the boat of a 25 year old, particularly not straight away. The way I see it you have two choices. Stop telling people what's soulful or not, cos if you tell them what's right and wrong enough, instead of listening, they'll drift away and think of us as sanctimonious old farts who don't like change. Accept the scene for what it is and when youngblood makes it's rare appearances, hope that they follow current scene trends rather than their own.
  2. ============= Think you're right youngblood does not want to go where their parents are going, but people on here seem to think they'll want to go if that wasn't the case and it's a misconception. Young people don't want to go anywhere it's predominately older people full stop, doesn't matter if it's their parents their uncles, or Norman Soul himself. They want their own scene, they want to make their own statements and put their own slant on it. It's an absolute joke that some think fashion stops youngsters coming onto the current northern scene, it has no significant bearing. Not sure about the 'they should be leading' comment. In what way can they lead?
  3. ============= I take it they don't read SS then?
  4. =========== Likewise
  5. =========== Yann Vatiste, not sure how often he logs on though
  6. My son just came in and said, really like that Amy Winehouse track, sounds very motown, think I'll buy her album. So I asked him if the thought it was soulful, he said, yep. Thought about referring him to this thread, but wouldn't want to disillusion him. Besides he'd only say we're deadwood know nothings, who's vision is obscured by having our heads too far up our own arses
  7. ============= This is good news
  8. =============== Playing devils advocate to a degree, if you've only seen him DJ twice this year, how do you know he's playing the same records all the time?
  9. ============== Thing is Pete, reading posts on this thread, and others similar, I keep hearing about underplayed this, and reactivate that and DJ's playing the same 50 records etc. But isn't the truth, DJs aren't playing anything different because basically at sometime or other virtually every record has been given an outing. It then comes down to an individual DJ's taste as to what he/she plays again.
  10. Wow this DJ'n is a cut throat business
  11. Who will come forward and lead us to the land of milk and honey?
  12. ============= Have a mate selling 2 tickets, think the thread was moved to events. Has his contact number. If you can't find the thread let me know, and I'll look it up
  13. ============== Ah the innocence of the youth but nobody's listening
  14. =============== Cor I wish all the police were like you Kirst, no wonder you're special
  15. =============== You sure he said drink?
  16. ============= You never heard of bent coppers Think I said in the opening post are they required
  17. ============== Yep, would agree with that, buggr, hope you're not directing my thoughts and opinions
  18. ============== Not sure if that's a crime, something for the powers that be to decide?
  19. ============ Make that two exceptions to the rules
  20. ============ There's always an exception to the rule Billy
  21. ========== The self appointed saviours of the scene, their comments cover a wide spectrum, from what you wear, to what you listen to........but its always for your own good
  22. ============ Think you're more like the chief constable
  23. Who are they Self appointed, self righteous "legends in their own heads" .... What are they SAD .... Where do you find them Sadly, at times, on here .... Are they influential Only to each other .... Are they required In their own heads .... Do they even realise they're policing the scene I'd say no, more like trying to "direct" it .... Are they causing the scene to fragment Probably, with regard to attracting "sheep" who buy into it ... Comments See above . ================ Bloody hell, that could have been me answering my own post Difficult one though, cos would guess that a lot may not want to own up to being 'soul police', mainly cos they don't recognise it in themselves Interesting that your answers were so completely different to Trevs, yet you saw his comments of those of a passionate soulie. I'm not saying Trev is Soul police, or that he's anything other than a committed soulie, but where does the committment end and the policing start? Winnie:-)
  24. ============== The face, Mad Murdock, Bad attitude Baracus........they sound like soul police
