  1. ============= What about people who knowingly buy them?
  2. =========== Accept you don't like CDs Si, but in most cases at least they're official releases, with I take it royalties going to the artists. This isn't the case in Boots, so perhaps CDs are the lesser of the two evils............unless there is another way to stop boots being sold that no one has come up with yet?
  3. ============ Thanks Stu So the seller could be named then? Yep, as a treat you can shut fingers in doors
  4. ============ Thanks for explaining Stu, and just to clear up one last point, just who can be prosecuted, the person producing the boots, or the person selling them? Win:-) PS. Think you're ready for the SPG mate
  5. ========== Good call, I'd go for.... Don't turn your back on me.....Jack Montgomery Little girl.......Corey Glover These memories.....Almeta Lattimore All pretty emotional tracks, that could only fail to move the most hard hearted person.
  6. ============ I thought earlier in the thread, people were saying they knew who was behind all of these bootlegs?? Wouldn't the person selling these boots be as responsible as the person manufacturing them? Even if different sources were used to supply the seller, under investigation wouldn't that person have to name them or face prosecution themselves. And if in the future a new supplier was found, the seller could hardly deny that they knew the records were boots. Maybe I'm oversimplifying things, but there must be a reason why someone can constantly sell boots and not be prosecuted? Winnie:-)
  7. =========== The thing I can't understand is what's the lure, if its a bootleg and you're a DJ, you're almost certain to be found out. And why bother with a bootleg, when as you rightly say Danny the track has probably been released on CD anyway. If CDs were an acceptable DJ format, would that curtail the bootlegs, this isn't a view, its a question. I can see there being downsides obviously, because virtually anybody would be able to DJ, although if it did take off, could see it being mostly at local soul nights. But which would be the lesser of the two evils. Boots have been part of this scene for 30 plus years, so the problem has never really been solved, perhaps embracing CDs could do that? As I said, not a personal view, just a question. Winnie:-)
  8. ============ At the moment Peterborough have a very solid base, with at least 4 venues running successful soul nights. Whilst musically they may not be to everyones taste, their success can't be argued with. Add in a couple of venues in Cambridge, and St Ives, and it's a pretty strong area.
  9. ========== Have to agree, London and surrounding areas should probably be on the list
  10. ============ I'd buy that fu**in' car park in Wigan and renovate it :-)
  11. ========== Thought the clapping to the weather forecast scene was over when Russell Grant finished presenting, but those Kentucky fried Clapping adds bought a lot of us out of the woodwork, although I still clap in the old style and get criticised by the 'new breed', who say its old hat and naff, and tapping your toes or humming is the new clapping
  12. Win as to your question its fairly common knowlage as to where these come from, how ever for me (or any one) to name them on a public forum i could be faced with not only a letter through my door, but a letter through mikes door too, as i have no hard proof, hell i could proberly pose as a dealer and go through the motions and record the whole deal on tape....always fancied being a undercover detective i could post the facts, but going up against these people takes alot of time and money two of the things that is lacking at the moment for me
  13. ============ Defo got a Steve Martin vibe going on, some of the grimaces are exactly the same
  14. ============ Saw them at the Nite Spot in Bedford, but can't remember the year. Talking of early robotics, Levi Stubbs was doing them at the Calais, mid 7Ts, or the strobe lighting was exceptional that night
  15. Tony Galla, in love also ripe for a clap fest
  16. =========== Why are there legal implications in naming this person? If said person is doing something illegal and its a proven fact, can't see why there should be a problem. If said person isn't doing anything illegal, or there is no hard evidence then I could see a problem. Can someone clear this up, is what we're reading conjecture or fact? Winnie:-)
  17. Holly St James, great clapping sequence near the end
  18. =========== Were the lyrics 'I believe that the whole darn world is going crazy'?
  19. ========= Agree with you Si, If a restaurant has a consistently bad record of say food poisoning, perhaps you wouldn't return, and would advise friends similarly. How well you know your friends and their tastes would also factor in though.
  20. ========== Si, If you'd have been to that restaurant 3 times and twice it was good and once it was bad, when describing it to a friend, which one would you mention? More than likely the once it was bad. Now as someone aware that people tend to focus on negatives rather than positives, I find it better to find things out for myself
  21. =============== In other walks of life pay and conditions are usually concerned, or closures of factories etc. This is about music, which to most doesn't have as higher a profile IMO. I did also agree with Martin's point, only a few of the people attending soul events are regular posters on SS, so some may not be aware of any problems at Whitby or anywhere else. Not sure whether it really should be condensed into a one out all out scenario?
  22. ========== If someone knows what the cover up is, whether he/she is against them or not, what does it matter. The whole point of a cover up is to keep it secret, once it's out, what's the point of continuing to cover it? Mabye you have to check which 'knowledgables' are in the room before you play it?
  23. =========== Pretty much how I see it as well. Plus you have to factor in that most of us on here have been to a KR event at some time or other, and haven't really had any major problems. So whilst those who went to Whitby etc got the thin edge of the wedge, most people have to have something happen to them personally before they'll react. Winnie:-)
  24. ========= Putting a CD together is always quite difficult, if the guy decides he wants to try it in the flesh as it were, he's probably going to want to hear some of the tracks you've recorded for him. As advised in other posts, maybe better to take him to a dance friendly venue, (probably oldies based) and get him to nudge you when he likes something. Failing that make sure you include 'walk in my shoes' in the CD Emotion packed, lyrically superb, the right tempo, great intro, all topped with that magical voice..........it'd work for me
