  1. The giving them a prod route does work. A couple of Cambridge girls wrote to the arts cinema, a few of us followed up with comments and it's now being shown, so well worth writing.
  2. Anybody else notice that the film is produced by Debbie Gray, seems rather apt
  3. Probably only so much can be said about flyers, and I think it has been, so as thread starter will close
  4. I suppose firstly is it practical, and if so what would you want to see on it. Some of the things I'd expect 1) Music played off original format/Music played not off original format 2) Nearest car park/on site parking/size 3) Entrance fee 4) Size of dance floor ie: 60' by 45' etc alternatively in square feet, so unusual shape floors could be catered for. 5) Is the floor wood/sprung or has it got a coating, sort of rubber, or tile 6) Is tea and coffee available, not available. 7) Who's DJ'n and if possible in what order. There's probably loads of other things, over to you
  5. No offence taken, differing opinions on music isn't something that bothers me too much, I don't like the record, the jazz backing makes it too disjointed for me to appreciate that's all. His voice is good, I wouldn't contest that. It won't take you long to dispatch the minding of Ps and Qs to the recycling bin, there's not too much standing on ceremony on SS Win
  6. I stand corrected, it's fabulous
  7. Dire! If you're going to cover an established record making it 'your own' doesn't suffice. Maybe if I'd have been wearing a compression hat when I'd listened to it I might have appreciated it more.
  8. That's what prompted the question Andy, so I said I'd ask on here
  9. Yep I'm on board with the backing track, as you say, lyrically profound it is not
  10. You're joking me David Let's just say it's not too my taste these days then Thanks for letting me know
  11. A song by the Supremes, have just been asked whether it was ever played on the northern scene, I haven't uploaded it as it's awful. Anybody got any info I can pass on please. I'd not heard it before... thankfully ;) Appreciated Winston
  12. I don't really get the argument, if it's played on the northern scene then it's northern, whether I like it or not. It may not all fit my blinkered view bought about by my first dalliance in 74-77, but I'm willing enough to give it a listen, and dance to it. In my view the music was generally better in my youth, but somebody who came into it later and went to different venues to me, will have a different opinion. Nobody's right, nobody's wrong, it's a point that can't be proven because we're all looking at it from personal taste.
  13. By that I take it you mean a specific venue, but to do that, you need a specific crowd willing to travel week after week, and that crowd is dwindling in my experience. I love the idea, but the bigger promoters would almost certainly contest such a place by putting on an oldies nighter against it. So unless you're of a more discerning nature, you'd probably never go, and the progressive nighter would struggle IMO.
  14. I think the Casino benefited from being in the right place at the right time as the explosion was happening on the northern scene. As it gathered loyalty it sort of created the us and them scenario, but a lot of that would have been down to our age and how easily led we were. Over the years most of us have learnt to diversify, in short we've grown up, so personally I don't think the capacity being smaller would have had an impact on the northern scene today, natural progression is all that's happened IMO
  15. Yep that's exactly how it came across to me as well. The mischievous Craig character trying to prove there's a greater divide than their actually is. Anybody know anything about his pedigree? I really can't be asked to google him, although I'm sure he has a very interesting northern soul history, that most will marvel at
  16. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the scene, but as far as I can recall it's always embraced instrumentals, I'm not a big fan myself, but their place in northern (the word you're conveniently ignoring) scene is pretty much cemented
  17. Read the top line, ''Rare and Northern soul Forum''
  18. vocal for me nearly every time, although I do actually prefer Soul steps to the vocal. I know we've done it before, but I don't really feel much soul content in instrumentals, don't shoot me I'm only saying
  19. I didn't see it either, been told it was the young girl who does all the videos on youtube dancing? Anyway, I'm wondering if it's not been mentioned or seen by as many because it's in a quiz rather than a drama. I don't think it's possible to pretend that nobody's heard of it anymore, so it was only probably a matter of time before it popped up as a quiz question. I did hear a rumour that Russ was in the jungle this year, and this years bushtucker trial was to see who could eat the most bullsh*t....
  20. The one I saw had Sammy Dee dancing in it, young girl gets murdered, near a beach, can't remember much else about it. What was the plot of the other one Pete, do you know?
  21. So did I, it must be a moderator thing To be fair though, Spyder's is much easier to dance to
  22. I really enjoyed it, didn't think it put us in a bad light at all, yes it missed some bits out, but it was only an hour long. Big thumbs up from me
  23. I have a feeling I've seen the 'clip' that's available, in fact I think I might be able to quote most of it verbatim... Will still watch it though
  24. I've got a feeling I do that, am I in?
  25. I'm really hoping it's a trick, and those in attendance have to unload Argos lorries, in a swaying rhythmical way of course
