  1. ============ Would have been a good way of showing that he does though don't you think? Businessmen are generally more successful if they're more about building bridges than being bloody minded IMO.
  2. ============ fags in one, whiskey in the other
  3. =========== Your English is good Roc The point I was making was that with the amount of do's in England its impossible for originals to be played at every venue, particularly if the local DJ's want to play something a little different. If it's a major venue, you/me/most would probably expect OVO, although in fairness I wouldn't go home if I found out this wasn't the case.
  4. ============ You did say you thought Kev would want it to be known he wasn't involved, still maintain that if that was the case he should have posted it himself. Just my opinion, think him posting it, would have shown a lot of respect to SS, someone else posting it, well, to me it doesn't show that. Winnie:-)
  5. ============ I don't get this, how can a song that doesn't work be made to work. If it wasn't made for the dance floor then surely you're defeating the object of the record? Just an observation by the way, not knocking you or anyone else who does it
  6. ============= If Kev wants something known, why doesn't he post it on SS himself. If he's banned (don't think he is?) then I withdraw the question. Winnie;-)
  7. ================= Someone who puts the needs of the dance floor above his/her own. Can't see a problem borrowing tunes at a local night if you're a local DJ, bigger nights I wouldn't expect that to happen. Winnie:-)
  8. ===========
  9. ============= Roccia, Lots of local nights on in England probably 40+ every weekend. With the best will in the world, top jocks/collectors can only be in one place at one time, so some venues will resort to other formats.
  10. The trouble is, you can't read about it in many books.
  11. I think there's cause for some optimism and happen to think that in the past few years the 'Northern' and 'Modern' factions are moving closer together (thanks to events and venues such as Soul Essence, The Orwell etc.) and that it would seem that the greater majority of people (at least on these boards, these days) have a very open mind to good quality Soul Music, all tempo's and from all eras. In the not too distant future, such a discussion will be history. Sean
  12. ============ Thats what I said the first time it was mentioned, and still think the same now, but its been bought up a couple of times since?
  13. ============== Right, see what you mean about 'the lie', would guess most had a period of time away, certainly did myself during the family years. During my absence, never felt I was still part of the scene, but did feel at home when I came back. Really wanted to hear familiar stuff for the first few months, but that changed rapidly the more I went out. Sort of came to terms with the fact its a massive and continuous learning curve, if you're that way inclined, but also tried to recognise a lot wouldn't want to move on. Didn't really worry me either way as long as I got what I wanted from it Mod scene eh? Don't they have a particular dress code, coming from a 6Ts culture? You'd have thought they'd have moved on by now?? Winnie:-)
  14. ============ It also says that a resident plays off CDs on the flyer Baz, I know I've already mentioned this, but it is worth re-iterating IMO, as its not a crime and is clearly stated. I do think that whatever he thought about your set, this guy should have kept it to himself. but then I thought the same about your comments re: no decent venues and Terry's comments re: no DJ's in the area trying to be different. They can be read the wrong way (as I did with your statement) and are a red rag to a bull to a lot of people, particularly promoters who in their own view/way are trying their nuts off. I'm not trying to re-open an already concluded debate, just pointing out that there may be a bit of tit for tat going on? Winnie:-)
  15. ============ How did you get onto the scene Shane, and from whence did you come? Have to explain everything these days so no one takes offence The reason I'm asking isn't to check your credentials, not worried if Colin from Computers told Anita in accounts, and you overheard, at the company auderve judging contest, just wondering how you got started thats all Was you never tempted by the lure of the oxford bags, or the bright shiny badges, that feeling of belonging as you throw down some talc, and someone nods knowingly? Winnie:-)
  16. =========== I aint goin nowhere....... for me Used to quite like Sax on the track as well
  17. =============== Cheers Chris that's better news, touch wood it stays that way
  18. ============ He could do, but he does run nights in Cambridge
  19. Fantastic bloke with time for everyone, sadly missed
  20. ============= How come there's all these personal arguments going on in Cookie's thread? Wouldn't have happened in Shane's day
  21. =========== Pete Burton? Mike Bolderson? Steve Jackson? Katrina? Matt Smart? Adam? And what's all this soulful Bob about?
  22. One thing i have noticed though and that there seem to be plenty of people doing gear as well as people on the beer but does that count in a different way or just accepted. What would happen if a pisshead took his beer on the dance floor and acted like a twat, would anyone say anything to him or just hope he got bored and went home ? Bearsy
  23. Taking the opportunity to bump this up again so John might get to see it
  24. ============= I can see why Ken has done it, I think that the drinking culture has completely changed the scene, and being able to 'have a late drink', has bought all sorts onto the scene. Personally I prefer quality to quantity There are some coming onto the scene who are genuinely interested, they may like a drink, no probs with that, cos ultimately the music will win through, but there are also some who just want to get pissed. Been over this many times, so don't really want to get involved in it again, but surely I'm not the only one who can see that some newcomers see the scene in a nightclub light? Winnie:-)
  25. =============== First and foremost its something to enjoy, from your perspective and mine its a dance scene, but its each to their own.
