  1. Stay with me baby Walk in my shoes, although thankfully I'm able to dance to this again without tears.
  2. Most of the ones already mentioned, but two that would definitely move me..... Crying over you World of Happiness
  3. ========== Holloway Road, London. I may be getting you mixed up with another lad, rocket nighters were about 4 years ago. Winnie:-)
  4. =========== Noticed you go to the soul ole, do you also go to the Railway and did you used to go to the rocket? Winnie:-)
  5. Mello Souls "We can make it"
  6. ============ Have to admit to not knowing who Dries van Noten is, but having googled the name......... Great pun
  7. ============ I went somewhere promoters tried this a few years ago, only they had it as a second room. Sorry I can't remember which venue, if it comes back to me, I'll post it up. Seemed to work well though. Personally I think its a great idea, time-scales might be a bit difficult to work out though. Maybe once or twice a year? Winnie:-)
  8. ============ I could of understood if they'd wanted to arrest me for crimes against fashion, but once they tried because I placed a styrene cup on the pavement. Said I was causing an obstruction to the lorries going in. Didn't arrest my mate however, who clambered onto one of the lorries, and got taken through the gates into the plant. He looked like roadkill on the front of the lorry. Those were the days eh Apologies to the topic starter for going off at an tangent by the way Winnie:-)
  9. =========== That's not you, it's Dave Hill
  10. =========== I had some of them, and also a pair with felt on the bottom, which got a hole in them the first time I walked on pavement in them. Still can't beat the solatios IMO. Had some astoundinly colourful clothes when I was a teen, some very green cord high waisters, which I used to like to wear with a very yellow cap sleeve t-shirt. Also had some high waisters with a different colour waistband and pockets......... why oh why
  11. ============ That's a beautiful evening gown...... is it an Alf Lauren?
  12. Cya sweetness........ Win:-) xx
  13. ========== be happy to oblige you with an argument mate
  14. ============== I agree there's not going to be any new out and out sounding northern soul made, but still think the scene could incorporate other more modern styles of music as long as it's soulful and danceable. Not that that alone would attract the youth, but it would be a start
  15. ============== It's not about engineering it surely, it's about giving it a make-over
  16. ============= Good points, well put. I was trying to explain it to a couple of young girls at work, they didn't pick up on the 'northern' tag I'd added, both just said they love soul, so perhaps that is the way forward Winnie:-)
  17. ============= I saw that and wondered the same thing Over the years, seen lots of posts along the lines of will youngsters fit in, think I've written a couple myself But if they did come in in their droves, perhaps the question would be, do we fit in, maybe thats really what's worrying people? I'd like to see the scene progress as in terms of a younger element, but if I were in the minority age group at a do, (Time-lords) would I feel comfortable. Guess I won't really know unless this fabled 'influx' is realised. Winnie:-)
  18. =========== Almost the impossible question....... Who are you trying to fool - Little Ann Good feelin - Coco and Ben Crying over you - Duke Browner We can make it - mello souls Walk in my shoes - Gladys Knight First five that came to mind, but ask me another day and at least three of em could have changed. Winnie:-)
  19. ============ When you catch yourself jigging in a clothes shop to some old motown, or waterstones come to think of it. If you're in a shop anywhere and they have wood down, and you wonder what it would be like to spin on
  20. ========== What about sending a representative? There must be an agency somewhere where you could hire one. Course you may have to pay more dependant on your preferences, something along the lines of....... Got a sick parent/partner or pesky children. Split from your partner so you only get to see the kids at weekends? Are you not getting to all the northern soul do's you should be? Has it been noticed and your standing affected as a result. Don't worry help is at hand e-mail me Sympathetic.Sam@Matchthesoulie.co.uk If I can't help no one can, here's a couple of examples. "youth club soulie"* aka Norman Soul...... £10.00 An authentic example of the dancer who stormed the youth clubs in 73/74/75 knows all the words to 'footsee'. and right up to the top of the range "Sophisticated soulie"* aka Charlie Chinstroker £120.00....... whether you're Charlie or Charlotte (we have one of each) this soulster supreme will impress your friends with his/her knowledge. Computer chipped, so that each e-bay auction re: 6Ts rare soul (it doesn't recognise the term 'northern'....classy eh?) result is beamed directly to him/her ready for immediate discussion. John from Manchester said "I was missing out cos I couldn't get baby sitters, so contacted "Sympathetic Sam" and they sent along 'Dan Dan the backdropping man', and I haven't looked back since. £25:00 quid well spent!" And Pauline from London says "Mum weren't well so I had to cut down on my northern outings, I tried patches and gum, but it just wasn't doing it for me. Came across "Sympathetic Sam" and they changed my life. Sent 'Sally Soulfullasoul' to the 100 club in place of me and my kudos increased 10 fold. Thank you Sam x Only two of dozens of pleased customers! *Prices were correct at time of going to print
  21. ============ Thought it was a general question as opposed to being about Stoke? Or have I read it wrong?
  22. =========== Personally I prefer nighters as they have more scope to play what they like. Having said that, I rarely go to them anymore, as the recovery period is just too long these days. Overall, lots of quality soul nights and nighters to choose from (dependant on your personal view of quality) so difficult for me to seperate them on anything other than a personal preference of liking the feeling of being at a nighter. Winnie:-)
  23. =========== A bit harsh, it's not just students who get drunk, it's not just students who dance like tossers, it's not just students who take bags with them, it's not just students who spill beer on the floor etc. Maybe they're not just thinking someone will pinch they're drink, they may be worried about someone spiking it, which is something that happens in their normal club environment and occasionally on the northern scene. Fathers spend a lot of time explaining to their daughters about the dangers of leaving drinks unattended, I'm glad they're being listened to. Whilst I'm a firm believer in etiquette, I am talking in terms of general politeness, not the handbook, "A handy guide to being a soulie". I like to see people dancing in a more traditional way, but even that has evolved through the wheel, Wigan, Stafford and the 100 club, so it's easy to understand how in 2007 it's still evolving. Ultimately its about appreciating the music, the dancing style is immaterial, and in truth I'd rather see people dancing than standing about, as that's much more likely to attract a younger crowd. Winnie:-)
  24. ============ What, the bloke who sung about killing the radio star?
  25. ============== He used to make suits
