  1. =========== Has it fallen out of the pram again?
  2. ============ Disected more like.......
  3. ============ Don't think we're arguing either, we both agree that the things mentioned are types of badges. To be honest I never notice what people are wearing when I go out, cos I'm too busy dancing and enjoying myself. It certainly doesn't embarrass me to think of people dressing retro, as you say its free choice, I just see it as another way of people supporting the soul scene in the way they want to. I would guess most people are fully aware of their responsibilities re: family, job etc, just presume they want to escape those everyday pressures anyway they can, albeit only for a short time? Winnie:-)
  4. =========== Obviously a person of few words............ thankfully
  5. ============= I don't particularly agree with what you're saying Mark, but do agree that they're all badges of a sort. Now, what about scooters, aren't they also making a statement? I'll just reiterate I personally have no problem with any of the above, just trying to find out why some things are acceptable, whilst others are considered 'naff'. If you asked an outsider what they thought of as 'naff', probably all the things you mention would be on their list, plus they might also place celebrating 40 year old music into the pot
  6. ============= Lets hope the promoters follow your lead Terry and if they're 'soul lovers' as opposed to 'the rest' advertise their event as such. Should bring the punters flooding in....... I was thinking about going to Rushden, now would that be SOUL SCENE, or NORTHERN SCENE?
  7. Winnie I understand why you buy a shirt, but as Spurs fan, ok you may not think of that point regarding finance But a lot of lower league team (Bearsys lot) supporters see it as a way of putting some coffers in the club And as I stated, shirt wearing is fairly new to supporters (last 15+ years maybe a bit more) and going to watch top level football has deffinatley changed As has the scene, patches are out Im afraid, Whatever next flat caps & those bloody rattles making a return They dont like it up em capt =========== Actually Moggy I thought maybe you were referring to smaller clubs, as I was writing the reply, and that is meant with no intention of insult, to any of the lower league clubs, so understand that point and agree with you. Would still think the vast majority of people who buy the shirts of premiership clubs do so to show allegiance, and can't see much difference to sporting soul badges. Winnie:-)
  8. =============== At wembley?? Most home games at any ground the opposition probably numbers less than 10% I buy tottenham shirts to show allegiance to my club, really can't see the difference with people wearing badges. I've also worn shirts that proclaim support for MS, it's not because I want to say "Look I'm worthy", its because I believe it to be a worthwhile cause that should be high-lighted. Just a form of advertising I suppose, but personally I don't see anything wrong in it. Moggy it doesn't enter my head I'm financing the club when I buy a shirt, I do it cos they're my team, and I'm proud of them, however good or bad they're doing. Winnie:-)
  9. =========== Everybody knows you like England if you go to Wembley, but people still wear the replica shirts as most do when supporting their local team and I don't personally see anything wrong in that, so it would be hypocritical of me to think people wearing soul badges are any different. Some people give money to charity and wear badges/t-shirts/caps proclaiming their support, is their a difference?? Winnie:-)
  10. ========= Agree, but you could be opening a can of worms Asians appear to be the new Levine to a few on the northern scene
  11. ============== I don't think its a daft question at all, I know a lot of people who have become disenchanted with the northern scene, and its not just because two people had a fight. Personally I think it has become more cliquey, and is likely to continue in that vain. You only have to look on SS, some of the threads have become personal battles between promoters and musical styles, and gossip has reached an all time high. Perhaps its because not so many dance so they have to amuse themselves in other ways, but I definitely think the scene has changed dramatically over the last five years in particular. Fashion sense and musical preferences have been discussed on this forum countless times, and there's always someone saying it holds the scene back. New venues with new direction have appeared, where's the influx of new blood..... nowhere to be seen. I'm not talking about a handful of youngsters, that dip their toe in to check the temperature, because from what I've read that's not going to save us, I'm constantly reminded via posts that we need a transfusion. Younger people go out to have a good time, not have grumpy old men and women bemoaning trivial things, cos they've reached "the age". I have no idea what the fight was about, to be honest I don't really care, but if you read the posts in the previous thread and this one, some are calling for the video to be shown so that they can make a judgement....... WHY? And this point I do agree with you on, it's got nothing to do with anybody apart from the protaginists, why do we need to know? Just the usual feeling of missing out on something juicy. This scene IMO should be about enjoyment of the music, dancing or collecting, whichever, and not about clamouring for little bits of gossip that have no effect on our lives. To sum up, I think Reg has made a good point, lots of people can see the same things occuring. Winnie:-)
  12. Best wishes for a speedy recovery Carl Winnie :-)
  13. =========== Excellent post Jo
  14. ========== Not sure if I've read this thread right, but I didn't think the ladies DJ'n on this particular night were calling themselves DJ's in the Jo Wallace, Maxine Woon, Joan, sense of the word? Thought they were just doing it for fun, not looking for future bookings? Winnie:-)
  15. =========== I think it sounds like quite a good experiment, cos I'm sure the girls will pick something completely different to play than their other halves would have. The floor reaction will be the interesting thing. Hope it goes well ladies Winnie:-)
  16. How did we ever get by before SS?? Winnie:-)
  17. At work the other day, saw a jacket on a chair covered in badges. Spoke to the girl who's jacket it was (she's 20) and she had no idea of the significance of the badges. She did tell me that there was a range of clothes sporting them, but I can't remember who's range and where she got them. The jacket, a simple denim affair, cost over a 100 quid, and she said it was something to do with the designer badges. Perhaps people wearing badges wouldn't put off youngsters Winnie:-)
  18. Interesting question, and I'm sure the dates mentioned have lots to do with peoples ages as mentioned by somebody else. Heyday for me, was 73/74 till about 79. Had a little dabble again in 81, but my son had just been born, so had to curtail it. Came back 97/98 and have pretty much enjoyed it since. Nowadays the urge to travel great distances has all but gone, stick to things mainly within a 100 mile radius, or a 2 hour journey. With more on locally, I don't really have to travel as much, as most places have reasonable guests. Winnie:-)
  19. ============ My pet hate is talc! Particularly those who as Karen says sprinkle the floor, look round to make sure people have noticed, jig about for a record, and wander off. As Trev or someone said in an earlier post, if you can't dance without it don't bother. Most floors these days are so highly polished its not needed. I've no real problem with people who put it down and dance all night, although there would be a safety aspect, just those who do it for effect. Know someone will say about me putting water down to slow a floor down, so will say, I do do that. Generally however, I dance most of the night and try to stay in exactly the same bit of floor I've doctored, so as not to upset anyone. Difficult to do, cos people constantly encroach on this slow bit of floor, usually mutter about how sticky it is, then go for the talc. Course that just makes a paste........ ban the stuff, just not needed these days. Winnie:-)
  20. =========== Think we mostly know what the difference is on here Why so aggressive by the way MB? Winnie :-)
  21. =============
  22. Condolences to you and yours Ady, and Sylv's family on this very sad news.
  23. ============ This is the really relevant point IMO. It only becomes crass or tacky if people who used to go to the casino go up their with a pair of old solatios, beer towel etc and lay them at the door If I were in the area I'd visit the cafe, just out of curiosity, not to relive old memories, because that can't happen, because it's not meant to be that kind of establishment. It's just something Wigan was famous for, its not going to become a shrine. I think it's good that the casino is recognised for what it was, a massive youth culture in the 7Ts, but if they were billing it as commemerative and claiming everybody who visited the casino should go to pay homage, I'd think the owners mad Winnie:-)
  24. ========= Karen and Gilly were dancing in it
  25. =========== My mate works for the gasboard, came round today at 11:30 cos he doesn't start til 12. Tomorrow he's back to another shift. Can't see anything particularly fishy in the gasman explanation Cyrus has given. Don't know anything about this guy at all, but shouldn't he be given the benefit of the doubt unless you have some sort of evidence he's bogus? Winnie:-)
