  1. ==================== Congratulations Reg, hope it goes well for you Win :-)
  2. =============== Why would you ask for an opinion on whether you should or shouldn't wear them? Have the courage of your convictions, wear what you're comfortable in and don't listen to the detractors. You probably wouldn't come across them much in the outside world, cos it's doubtful that they'd go to the same venues as you anyway. It's a well known fact that people who wear bags don't like upfront stuff and are just stuck in the past..........
  3. ================= Cat, You just read my mind, the one person I'd like to see for definite. Wouldn't mind seeing Barbara Lynn again either come to think of it. Winnie:-)
  4. =============== Always good to have a list of contents You have forgotten The site will be down for 5/10/ mins etc A Levine thread A Kev Roberts thread (very rare these days) Bringing in new blood I saw someone in bags and a vest........ the scene's dead!!
  5. =================== How do we view train spotters etc, then you have your answer
  6. ============== I would say James alleged controversial views are born from passion, something more prevalent in the young rather than old die hards who don't like change. Not describing you by the way with the 'old die hards', just that some may buy into the idea that time on the scene equals seniority.
  7. ================ I've seen a few slating James for having opinions that are sometimes viewed as controversial? Personally I like the fact that the youth of today have the bollox to put their point of view across because that's whats going to keep the scene fresh and the fact that theres internet sites to help do it, such as Soul Source, can only be a good thing. Winnie:-)
  8. ============== Cliff Richard......... they'll never know why Bjork..........sax on the track Perry Como........... the trip
  9. Nearly always found most dance floors too SLIPPY for my liking, usually adapt a little bit (water on the floor) to address the situation Winnie:-)
  10. =========== It's a sad scene, if it's become somewhere you can't voice opinions because you haven't been on it long enough and if we all adopt that attitude it will be in it's death throes before we know it. The problem with that as I see it is when can it be considered you've paid your dues? Rach and Baz for example are in their 20Ts, have they reached an age where it can be construed that they've something useful to contribute? I think they have musically and that's the dominant factor as far as I'm concerned and IMO should be the same for these youngsters 10 years younger. At the tender age of 15/16/ it has to be recognised IMO that those new to the scene are going to discover sounds that they really like, that were played to death 30 years ago. I've seen enough posts on SS to discourage natural progression through villifying taste/preferences to think we could lose potential new blood is all I'm saying. The golf analogy has one flaw IMO and that is if you've talent it won't take you 30 years to recognise how you play that particular hole, same applies to new people coming onto the scene. Winnie:-)
  11. ============== The question could be asked why would people of yours and Baz's age want to socialise with 50 year olds? Massive age difference so probably not a lot in common? The one constant is the music which hopefully is what these new youngsters have recognised. Not a dig at either of you, just confusing that you're both young and taking what appears to be a similar viewpoint to that of the 'ancients'. One post, I think it's Trev's says something about not spouting off opinions, and don't get behind the decks for a few years etc, and this is advice supposedly for the new kids on the block. What absolute tosh!! My advice to youngsters would be don't listen to people young or old who want to oppress you. Get out enjoy the music, enjoy dancing and speak your mind. From a musical point of view the scene is there for anyone to enjoy, and if there's a too young, shouldn't there be a too old?? Winnie:-)
  12. First and foremost a dancer. If I hear something I previously wasn't aware of will generally dance to it if I'm already on the floor and then make a judgement whether I'd dance to it again. Finding out the name of tunes has never really interested me, just love the energy on the floor more. I do think that the future is going to be less dance orientated, which I find sad but understandable as we're all getting older......... c'est la vie Winnie:-)
  13. ================= Pretty sure Scarboro is on about the tempo of records played at nighters, rather than asking for someone to play his favourite records. Personally I think if you play a whole spot of anything, stompers, newies, crossover etc you risk losing the floor, particularly if it's early on. Didn't go to the do, so can't comment on Paul's spot, just giving an overall view from my perspective. Winnie:-)
  14. ================== Not sure, personally I would have thought 'most' or 'some' of the time would have implied exceptions rather than all? Perhaps we can get one of the teachers on SS to give an definition of ALL?? Winnie:-)
  15. ======================== What no exceptions?
  16. =================== You should get accustomed to it then, great post!! Winnie :-)
  17. ============ He wasn't here either?? So that's comments on Silks and this dayer without attending. Timothy must have a touch of the 'divine', running through him to know so much about both events It's really not right that either of these events can be rubbished or associated with allegations that the origiinal poster can't confirm as he was at neither. It appears to be a case of mischief making and an attempt to turn the broadsheet that is Soul Source into a tabloid? Winnie:-)
  18. =========== Shane, I know where you're coming from, but to be honest don't see that it will become a major problem. People go to the natural history museum, have a look round, are generally amazed, then go back to what they do normally. No fuss, no big deal and can't really see why it's considered tacky. If I happened to be in the Wigan area I'd probably have a look at it, but wouldn't consider going as a matter of urgency, as I suspect most people on the scene wouldn't. As for signed photos, doesn't overly interest me, but I do recognise some people like to review their personal history in such a way, so again doesn't bother me. Personally don't think it'll affect the scene in any way shape of form, apart from a few people wondering what they missed in the 7Ts and then going home and putting the dinner on Winnie:-)
  19. ============ Good post Bri, but will fall on the proverbial deaf ears...... which might explain why so many of the 'upfront' boys actually think some of these new/reactivated sounds are good Winnie:-)
  20. ============== Andy Rix
  21. =============== Really was a great time in London. The 100, these old shoes, scenesville and the dome all set the standards. Went to most of the Dome nights, and have to say it was the most innovative soul night of it's kind and at that time I was travelling all over. Great days Winnie:-)
  22. If Carlsberg made soul sites............... Best soul site on the net by the country mile. Info, diverse opinion, it has it all Winnie:-)
  23. =========== Didn't you have an SSCDT t-shirt as well that you won on e-bay
  24. ========== I see what you mean now, cos I said I never notice what people are wearing Was talking in general, as in people's dress sense is not the first thing I look out for when I go into a venue Think I was sitting at your table or very close, and as it was in the small room at Trentham couldn't fail to notice her. Soz, should have re-read your post before I replied
  25. ============ Think it was at Trentham Mikey. The girl in question was wearing a dress that was very eye catching. Because of my ignorance of the mod culture, I asked Michelle if she was a mod or representating that era? Think you're right Michelle said she was an artist and (this might not be right) that she'd designed and made the dress herself? I was curious because I liked the fact that she was such an individual, but that makes no difference to my overall view that people should wear what they like and feel comfortable in.
