  1. Not sure if I'll be at soul ole or not, there's another night on (as per usual) and I might have said I'd go there, will have to check the diary
  2. I'm there on Saturday as well, then on to St Ives On negative comments, I haven't seen that many to be honest, just said elsewhere, I can't see how anybody can damn something when they're yet to see it
  3. I've asked for 3 records recently at 3 different events, Little Girl, I belong to you (vocal) and Undiscovered Country. All 3 had an adverse reaction on the floor, as in virtually emptying it. All 3 DJs IMO know what they're doing and fitted the records in to their set properly, 2 of the records are really well known, not sure how popular or well known the Gene Vito is, but around our area (Northant's/Beds) it's been played for quite a while. Conclusion, the crowd in, just wanted records they know, so no blame attached to the DJs IMO, although I did apologise to all of them for asking for said records.
  4. I don't think it's particularly soulful either, maybe the arrangement shakes hands with a 7Ts sort of sound, but doesn't retain much of it's DNA, so all in all, I wouldn't turn it off it came on the radio, think that's the best I can say.
  5. It's nice enough, I could imagine Lisa Stansfield singing it.
  6. It's not going to go away per se, but it's addiction to plastic surgery is making it increasingly difficult to recognise.
  7. And so the circle of life moves effortlessly along
  8. Yeah I enjoyed reading it Dan, but couldn't help hoping that your girlfriend is on Soul Source and reads it, Leonard Hofstadter Could have been worse, it could have been Howard's Mum
  9. I'd never heard it in the first place, so also never heard it out. Do you really want to hear it on a boot though Baz? What is one of your favourite records (saw your other post) suddenly played everywhere, careful what you wish for buddy
  10. Yep I'm at this one. The girls did a good job hounding the cinema into putting it on
  11. No specific details Bill, but the info has come via some of the people attending Butlins. Like I say, the timeline is difficult to follow, because they're all different threads. One said it was a suspected heart attack, and the poster said his wife was with him, then a few minutes later another thread pops up, saying Tommy had gone back to the venue. But thought it was worth mentioning.
  12. He apparently returned to the venue. The timeline is quite difficult to follow on social media at times. So hopefully he's recovered!
  13. Just seen this reported elsewhere, details are sketchy, suspected heart attack, but his condition appears to have improved. Get well soon Tommy
  14. Not sure hairstyles have too much relevance these days ;)
  15. Loakes for me as well
  16. Paul I know it's your pic mate, but they're definitely gola trainers, the stripes and slash are very distinctive, plus I still have a pair now, knocking about
  17. The Alan Ball ones were the first white boot I can remember, I did have a pair at one point. The revolving stud ones came a bit later and were removed from the market due to health and safety issues. Just from memory, a kid wearing them, got the revolving bit stuck in mud, went to turn and did something really serious to his leg, maybe reports on the net that could give a bit more detail, mine's just a hazy memory.
  18. Along side Simon, plenty of other good dancers from, or about our generation wear trainers to dance in, Bob Lee, Mark Johnson, Andy Cannon to name but another three. Youngsters like James Whitehead and Dave Stabler, do everything in trainers that dancers from our time would have longed to do. My own preference is for leather soled Loakes, but I did wear gazelles for the first time during the afternoon shifts of the Skegness weekender just gone. Didn't dance a lot, as was saving myself for the nights, but when I did, they were absolutely fine, didn't stick to the floor and no extra friction when spinning.
  19. Well that's that sorted then, there's no problem....
  20. There is definitely too many venues...now what happens??
  21. I could just as easily made the same point using Grease Matt, but I had a flashback to attending a wedding in 78, the bridegroom wore a white suit and at the reception all of us were expected to do that bloody silly night fever dance, which I flatly refused to take part in. This wasn't in New York, it was down town Bedfordshire, in a small village called Cople. Forgive me, I was out last night, still haven't slept, so now can't remember why I was making the point, I'm sure it was something to do with what you said about Fever being of the time and place. It doesn't matter really, I'm also looking forward to Elaine's film coming out
  22. LOOK! If you two are going to continuously make logical comments based on the blindingly obvious, you'll hinder the potential for a completely unbalanced and irrational debate, see the film first indeed, whatever next...
  23. I can't see it, but I do know my spidey senses are tingling...great jumping J Jonah Jamesons
  24. Made me really laugh, not sure why, I'm fat, old and the proud possessor of a spiderman costume, there's nothing like fitting the bill
  25. Saturday night fever seemed to catch on, quite a few people not into the disco scene watched it, so it could have a wider appeal. I've watched most of the little clips that have been put up and the trailer, and I don't know why you've come to the conclusion that they make the film look shit, you obviously have your reasons but to balance your view, I think they make the film look good. To be fair, I can't pinpoint why, I know I got a little tingle watching some of the dance sequences, and it managed to take me way back and I really enjoyed that time of my life, so maybe that's it. The title is a 'catch all', well too me anyway, lots of people were touched by northern, even if only briefly, and with artists like Duffy and Plan B using dancers, I think there's probably more people will take an interest than we realise. To make something accessible you need a title that's easy to identify with, Northern Soul the Movie pretty much fits the bill in that department, I suppose it could have had a slightly more obscure title, maybe Shrine or The three before eight, for example, but I'm not really sure what that would have achieved, other than to possibly confuse the potential audience. Your last sentence ''It might be great'', is sort of where most of us sit, the majority of posts on Source that I've read are willing it to be good, but we can't make that final judgement until we've seen it, so me, I'm going to do what seems fairly unconventional these days, actually wait until I've seen it before I pass judgement
