  1. =============== Think if you read Mike's post again Terry you'll see he's talking about putting a stop to local feuding, not promoting it.
  2. ============== have PM'd you
  3. ============ I agree with the sentiment a little enhancement is ok/good, not sure I can agree with the medical argument you're putting forward though :-) Gear like anything else is ok when used in moderation, it's when people go over the top problems start. Addictive personalities don't help either, nor does thinking it's 'in the rules' to do gear if you're into northern
  4. ============ Something we totally agree on at last
  5. ================ Would be pretty accurate to say the dancefloor is nearly always fueled by something, whether it be beer or summat else. Personally not a drinker at either soul nights or nighters, so wouldn't worry me if it disappeared, think it would have a detremental effect on the courage (for want of a better word) to dance. Winnie :-)
  6. A piece of Major Lance's shirt that he threw into the crowd at the Calais
  7. ============== I don't think I'm trying to re-write history Steve, all I said was I enjoyed it in there? Yes the dancefloor was poor, but the atmosphere was better than upstairs IMO. Realise you may have not liked the playlists, but suspect your knowledge far exceeds my own, was only just starting to like modern, so was quite fresh to me
  8. =============== I used to spend a lot of time downstairs in the modern room, the atmosphere was better and the egos didn't seem as prevalent. I do remember the antagonism at the time and it did put a downer on the night. It was a shame for the punters that some sort of truce couldn't have been called, but in truth that was never really going to happen, given the strong personalities involved I thought initially it was advertised as basically an oldies venue, maybe not advertised, more promoted as one, which in general it did stick to. Perhaps with hindsight, a monthly night in a venue of that size was hoping/asking for too much even with NS being more in vogue. Winnie :-)
  9. =============== Ian, I was there on the first night as well and only missed one of the subsequent ones. Great venue but musically was left wanting. The first night was very successful, liquid news were there as I recall, but masses of free tickets had been given out, which I'm sure you are aware of. It never reached the heights again, attendance wise. Sure the subject has been covered many times, but the last one I attended there were around 200 and they didn't all stay all night. And what was the idea with the VIP area on the stage, talk about putting oneself on a pedestal Winnie :-)
  10. ================ Have said before, not necessarily the northern scene becoming fashionable again, but going out for the over 4Ts. For a long time no one knew about us, then came motown weekenders (know they've been about for a while) but then they had northern rooms. Northern rooms mean flyers, suddenly everybody knows about us. So we are getting new blood in, but not youngsters, just a diluted crowd. Realise there still are some returnees, but have noticed for quite a while that there are many may not have been theres. Hence more events coming up, because a lot of these people don't mind only going out once a month, or once every couple of months, but they want the night local. Reading it back, sounds like I have major reservations, not sure that's the case, just think the scene is currently a watered down version of what it was. Soul source has weekly battles between punters/promoters/collectors, great if you like to argue (don't mind myself) and have a rant, but the much vaunted cameraderie that pervaded our scene is withering IMO. Maybe the nature of the scene means it has to press the self destruct button to re-invent itself? Long winded, but basically agree with Mike Maybe slightly different concerns??
  11. Real shame, two of the better people about and very punter friendly. Remember when the rocket had a bit of a mare with the band over-running, and you put on a free night to compensate, not sure any others promoters would have done the same. Good that you'll still be out and about, maybe you'll enjoy it more without what must be massive pressure when promoting Winnie :-)
  12. ============= Me too, excellent!!
  13. ============== Might spark some interest if they did the film in black and white, would work for me
  14. ============ More to the point, who would it be aimed at? Would have to have plenty of sex and drugs to impact on the masses, can't seeing it being a sucess without........
  15. =============== Donald's gone Nige. Vin Deisel for Searling?

    ============== I think it's a great introduction, particularly now that you've got rid of Dottie and Millie
  19. ================ Great post Time to reach for the greater good? Winnie :-)
  20. ======================== Rugby
  21. ============= Happened a couple of times when a DJ has been double booked, but not a regular occurence as far as I can remember. Maybe tedsoul has somewhere/something specific in mind?? Winnie :-)
  22. ============== I love the record, but representative of 1966? Would have thought four tops would have been more apt.
  23. ============= Also has a review of the original play within your link Danny Winnie :-)
  24. ================= Tracks 1,2,4,5 are pleasant enough, but not northern, well not to me anyway. Would dance to the first couple of tracks if I heard them in a modern room and that's not trying to put down modern, they just sound better suited to that medium to my untrained ear. Something about all the tracks remind me of the Evelyn Thomas era, not sure if it's in the production or the use of backing vocals, but there were some similar sounding effects on SWONS.
