  1. ================ Have said before, not necessarily the northern scene becoming fashionable again, but going out for the over 4Ts. For a long time no one knew about us, then came motown weekenders (know they've been about for a while) but then they had northern rooms. Northern rooms mean flyers, suddenly everybody knows about us. So we are getting new blood in, but not youngsters, just a diluted crowd. Realise there still are some returnees, but have noticed for quite a while that there are many may not have been theres. Hence more events coming up, because a lot of these people don't mind only going out once a month, or once every couple of months, but they want the night local. Reading it back, sounds like I have major reservations, not sure that's the case, just think the scene is currently a watered down version of what it was. Soul source has weekly battles between punters/promoters/collectors, great if you like to argue (don't mind myself) and have a rant, but the much vaunted cameraderie that pervaded our scene is withering IMO. Maybe the nature of the scene means it has to press the self destruct button to re-invent itself? Long winded, but basically agree with Mike Maybe slightly different concerns??
  2. Real shame, two of the better people about and very punter friendly. Remember when the rocket had a bit of a mare with the band over-running, and you put on a free night to compensate, not sure any others promoters would have done the same. Good that you'll still be out and about, maybe you'll enjoy it more without what must be massive pressure when promoting Winnie :-)
  3. ============= Me too, excellent!!
  4. ============== Might spark some interest if they did the film in black and white, would work for me
  5. ============ More to the point, who would it be aimed at? Would have to have plenty of sex and drugs to impact on the masses, can't seeing it being a sucess without........
  6. =============== Donald's gone Nige. Vin Deisel for Searling?
  7. ================ they're not oldies to someone who's never heard them Chalks, you're looking at it from your perspective, not a newbies?
  8. ============= And you liked sex in the city...............
  9. ============== I think it's a great introduction, particularly now that you've got rid of Dottie and Millie
  10. ================ Great post Time to reach for the greater good? Winnie :-)
  11. ======================== Rugby
  12. ============= Happened a couple of times when a DJ has been double booked, but not a regular occurence as far as I can remember. Maybe tedsoul has somewhere/something specific in mind?? Winnie :-)
  13. ============== I love the record, but representative of 1966? Would have thought four tops would have been more apt.
  14. ============= Also has a review of the original play within your link Danny Winnie :-)
  15. ================= Tracks 1,2,4,5 are pleasant enough, but not northern, well not to me anyway. Would dance to the first couple of tracks if I heard them in a modern room and that's not trying to put down modern, they just sound better suited to that medium to my untrained ear. Something about all the tracks remind me of the Evelyn Thomas era, not sure if it's in the production or the use of backing vocals, but there were some similar sounding effects on SWONS.
  16. Simply put, there will never be another venue to touch it!!
  17. ================= I did read your post Joan, and whlst you don't use the word vinyl, you did say It is the fact that they have chosen to have a group of musicians, who aren't even a proper band ffs, (not that it would make any difference if they were) to come in and sing the songs, instead of having the original soundtrack upon which the whole play is based. As I remember the play (only saw it once) the play was based on the four main character's lives, and what was happening to them, how they were coping with life if you will, rather than the emphasis being placed on the music, original or otherwise. As I said, I'm not trying to fan the flames, Paul has said 'it's not his play', I don't think anyone has disagreed with him, just made a case for seeing the new production before commenting on it. I don't think that's unreasonable, do you? Winnie :-)
  18. ================ Made me laugh :thumbup:
  19. ============ As I said it was a long time ago Of course I remember the sound track, but still thought the play was basically about the struggles of the 4 main characters. Glad you've put me straight
  20. =============== Maybe Steve got mixed up with another nighter that opened it's doors in 73? Winnie :-)
  21. =============== It's a long time since I saw the play, but I don't remember the emphasis being on vinyl, more on the lives of the characters with the casino being a release. This is how I honestly remember it, I'm not trying to fan the flames Winnie :-)
  22. =========== Hi Mark, First time I went was 75/76 don't remember anything prior to that, but I'm not renoun for my memory Winnie :-)
  23. ============= Thought it was a bit 'the seagulls shall follow the trawler' as well
  24. ================ Perhaps a little humility is called for, maybe stop speaking down to people. Cut out the little addendums "adult responses only please", we're all grown ups on here and it's an open forum, people can post what they want. At times it seems as though you're just looking for a reaction, good or bad, and your posts are very much in the style of a guru preaching to his disciples. Winnie :-)
