  1. I think someone posted it in freebasing Matt. It is Keb by the looks of it, also think Liam is in it as well

I'm a bit confused by this 'doom and gloom' post Tommo. You've said you've started collecting again, but then told people don't buy records as the scene only has a short shelf life, as we're all about to drop off this mortal coil, it's a bit contradictory don't you think? Reading between the lines with talk of being 'ripped off' and 'northern soul snobbery' it feels like you have something else to say?? Apologies if I'm reading it wrongly Winnie

got sent it as well, have now deleted, don't mind discussing things then forming an opinion, hate have an opinion foisted upon me Winnie ;-)
  4. this question has been asked so many times and as ever there is no difinitive answer, it's the tiniest bit different to each person, the only constant is an emotional connection and that goes for every genre of music IMO
  5. Not sure if this has been posted, but there is a profile on him on BBC4 tonight 11pm
  6. was he talking about the artists or the dancers as influencing his image?
  7. if they just put northern night they'd get hammered for that, sometimes you just can't win
  8. What do you mean by that Terry, care to explain? Winnie
  9. I might be reading the intitial post wrongly, but I thought the thread was to do with a split in the rare soul scene, as opposed to a definition?? ie: at the moment it's a broad church, latin/funk/uptempo/midtempo etc all accepted, the question seemed to me to be, in the future would some clubs for instance focus on the funkier, whilst others, go down the uptempo traditional northern soul albeit rare route, for the two examples I've given, replace with any mentioned throughout the thread. Winnie
  10. i would have thought just reading through this thread gives the answer, yes there is a split..............
  11. Really sad news RIP Gil Scott Heron

  14. there's an actual drink that has a toe in it, might be in Australia or New Zealand............sorry for going off topic
  15. I'd give it a go because it's how it's meant to be, but that could just be the romantic side coming out in me. I used to regularly do soul nights and go onto nighters, almost every week, but it's taken it out of me, weekenders were done with virtually no sleep, but as most have pointed out we've got older. I remember doing Prestatyn about 5 years ago, danced all night and most of the day, finally dancing myself to a standstill as I crashed into the stage......... but it's what goes with it, I'd struggle with, whether it was a soul night, weekender, nighter, I was a creature of habit, certain requirements had to be met at 55 I'm not sure I would want to feel that need again? To dance all night, would probably be impossible now, particularly without that 'enhanced' feeling, so if said hypothetical nighter was a regular event I wouldn't do it, but as a one off definitely would. Problem for me is I have an addictive personality, I could easily see me getting back on the carousel again, health wise for me, that wouldn't be sensible

My memories don't tally up with Dave's either. In 67 I'd just gone up to secondary school in Hendon, used to go to spurs as it was one bus ride to Arnos grove from my house, so my Mum was ok with it. At school and at Spurs the buzz at the time was about Chelsea and the shed, they were on the up and their supporters were feared. As I remember they were one of the best supported teams inside and outside London, and even had a sprinkling of supporters at my school which was basically split between Spurs and the scum. Don't recall anybody particularly respecting wham or their supporters, maybe we were too steeped in tradition? All a long time ago so memories are fading but that's how I recall that particular time. Winnie
  17. Hi Lorraine and welcome to Soul source, I think you'll love it. Winnie x
  18. the talcasaurus is indeed a beast to be feared............
  19. I saw him there in I think 1975, sorry no pics though
  20. What the Major is doing is surely what we'd see as a familiar northern step? Shuffling was the forerunner to what became known as stomping, that's how I remember it anyway. There was a slidey style step that I used to do, dependent on the direction, so left, left foot slid stroke twisted, right foot, hit the floor in a downward motion, to push and increase your speed, was then done visa versa, think it may have originated at the Mecca?
  21. Whilst losing these two will be a loss, the scene will continue, that's a fact
  22. Just behind Russ then Kenny.......

Great bloke, when I used to go to prestwich he'd always make sure we were on the guest list, don't know how they managed to make any money everyone seemed to be on it. Great venue, loved the modern room, and of course to his eternal credit he was a spurs supporter. Lynn was great as well
  25. Thanks Kev/Pete, already been told what it is Winnie
