  1. There's a bloke who used to be a member on here, talked about himself occasionally, might have mentioned his massive contribution to the northern scene, can't remember his name at the moment........... ;)
  2. seems a fairly common sense approach
  3. It would be interesting to see how well attended it was if it was monthly, I think you're right a lot of the people who go plan for their 3 nighters a year, if faced with a further 9 would they go to all of them? I suspect not but if they did, then the music policy would have to freshen in the main room........
  4. Depends what you want from your product I guess, if you want something that directly mirrors your youth both musically and atmospherically, I'd say the attendances say it's a very good product?
  5. Yeah it's me that needs to get over myself I'll continue to comment on whatever posts/topics take my fancy
  6. You'll have to tell me where I said you can't have an opinion, cos I must have missed it, you said 'most of the events are sub standard', you can only come to that conclusion/opinion if you've been to the event a number of times surely. Your next post qualified your initial post with, 'They're events I've attended and I know the DJs' that's a completely different statement. I'm not telling you what you're thinking, I said how the post read to me, this is a discussion forum, you put a point up, I was discussing it, what's wrong with that? I'm not sure what you mean by saying 'never having an opinion', pretty sure I said there are too many nights, said it many times before, but agreed with Mike Cook's point, 'nothing gets resolved', because nothing does. We can discuss it all we like, are any promoters going to say, ''they have a point on Soul source, let's cancel that night''? Not sure who doesn't post because of me, sounds a bit far fetched but I'll bow to your superior knowledge of the SS membership. Not sure what all the 'intellectual' bollox is about, can't recall questioning your intellect, again perhaps you'll show me where I have, I'll be happy to apologise if that's the case. If you're really worried about this thread, then perhaps we should move this to PM?
  7. That's completely different to ''most of the events'' which you said in your previous comment, hence me saying sweeping generalisation
  8. Yeah I'd agree with that Russ, the reason they haven't been more accommodating is they have the 'captive audience' thing going on
  9. Sometimes? Now that's funny
  10. It could be that they actually enjoy themselves, how many of the alleged sycophants venture onto threads like this, how often do those complaining about the top 500 go onto a lookback thread to give a view? If you haven't been to the event difficult to hold a position, so can't really comment directly on the thread, better it seems, to come onto/start a seperate thread and call them 'handbag' or 'sub standard and boring', not exactly building bridges or attempting to unite the scene. Yourself and Andy have both made positive comments recently regarding having oldies lovers at your events, that's the way forward surely?
  11. I pretty much agree with this, I don't really get the point of the thread. 92 soul related events, I agree that's too many, so what happens next?
  12. There's 92 do's on, and you said you're skint but you probably wouldn't go out if you weren't cos the events are 'musically sub standard and boring', how can you possibly know that? I get it nothing appeals to you, but the need to make such a sweeping generalisation, that I don't get.
  13. I'm not sure why the seamier side is so important to some people, I don't think it would be the first recollection for the majority of people who attended nighters in the 7Ts, so not really that relevant for me. I'd just like to see the film given a chance and not see people pre-empt what might and might not be part of the film, we just seem to be getting grumpier by the minute..........
  14. I vaguely remember the German site, not sure what you mean by static, but it never seemed to get updated
  15. When I first typed northern soul into google in the nineties, the first web sites it came up with were Mick Fitzpatrick's Night Owl, which lead to KTF and Martin Thompson's soul-a-go-go, don't know if they were the first, but both were very influential at that time. Met some great people through both
  16. Loved the teaser, and the interview was excellent, looking forward to it
  17. I think the posters are referring to comments made on soul source, rarely do people come across elitist in person.
  18. Chalky, I've already said post 229 from Andy D is the best in the thread, and your comment above echoes that, it's the 'disciples' not the actual promoters that can come across elitist from time to time and in truth that's off putting to many.
  19. I read you're first comment and knew what you meant, you're not talking about the actual promoters of, for instance lifeline, you're talking about some of the people who promote the 'upfront scene' as the way forward. ie: some of the punters?
  20. Not disagreeing with you Chalks, all I'm meaning is that 75 for many people is a point frozen in time that typifies what the northern scene was, you've only got to look round the country at the what the venues are playing and I think it becomes a fair assessment. I'm not disrespecting what came afterwards, obviously there were major influences, but the true definition for so many would be that moment in 75 when the world found out
  21. I sort of agree with your mate, in 75 when northern went massive, what was being played then is and will be for a lot of people the true definition of northern, and forever be preserved in amber Everything else is derivative or natural progression, to the vast majority of 'soulies' IMO.
  22. footsee on top of the pops, early 75. Like it or not, this record introduced 1000s of people to northern and the style of dancing, a very big moment in the history
  23. Didn't somebody from 'Dodgy' turn up at the dome one night, maybe the guitarist, seem to recall Matt J being quite excited, or was it Greg
  24. I'd forgotten about Tyrone, didn't he turn up with a few of the cast. There was one of the younger girls from either Corrie or Eastenders at one of the rockets, I didn't actually recognise her, someone I was with did
  25. A clip of it was on liquid news at one time.........
