  1. People don't like naming venues Chalky, I only mentioned your post as it might have been what Anton was referring to? So far this year I've heard of at least 2 nighters where things have kicked off, don't know their music policy, one was definitely discussed on soul source.
  2. I thought it was a little bit bland, if I was on a dance floor and it was being played, I'd definitely do the 'shoulder shrug' to it for a bit, but don't know if I'd last the whole record
  3. I quite liked the idea of a ''soul source'' membership to get into the clubs (sorry can't remember who proposed it). Most promoters advertise their events on here, so why not affiliate, and a membership card that covers all venues could be the way forward?
  4. Perhaps post 40 is being referred to?
  5. Far too angry, read the posts again, nearly all are supportive, here and in the lookbacks on Rugby. If you're gonna be a DJ you are on occasion going to get criticised, happens to all of them, they take it with good grace, nothing to go off on one IMO.
  6. Agreed that both are annoying Rob, but on balance do you think it's more likely to be people who are drunk acting up than those whizzing, cos my experience is it's the former rather than the latter.
  7. To be fair, it was just a poll, not a new set of rules that promoters or DJs have to stick to
  8. It was a slip of the tongue Moldie, you were the drunken moose in the story
  9. Looking at it logically, if you start throwing people out because they have a drink on the dance floor, somewhere or other that will end up in an almighty scrap. The promoter of said event may struggle to book that venue again, or possibly anywhere else, and northern soul might hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons, could spiral, as in difficulties for anybody to book a venue?
  10. Maybe a good start would be to stop selling alcohol? Just a thought
  11. This is how it starts a few tracks here and there, then it's producing your own, and before you know it, a 397 piece box set of DVDs appears explaining the SWONS...................................oh and then he'll get banned
  12. Well I danced to quite a few of your records youngun, and enjoyed the spot immensely, bearing in mind our ages a couple of slower ones might help next time, or at least give me time to get my inhaler out and have a puff  Fair play to you Winnie
  13. Seeing Bobby Paris mentioned made me think of this, which I just have to dance to
  14. 10 years time? I've been slowly disintegrating for the last 10 years, I'll just be a husk by 2022

  19. Duke Browner - Crying over you Inez and Charlie Foxx - Tightrope Jock Mitchell - Not a chance in a million More recently Parliaments - This is my rainy day Mello Souls - We can make it Coco and Ben - good feeling in fairness I could name quite a few more
  20. Heard the news at Rugby tonight, and was really saddened by it. I loved her voice and more than anything else 48 is just no age to die RIP Whitney x
  21. Best soul night of the last decade IMO, atmosphere second to none, music constantly fresh and the people were brilliant. Miss it loads.
  22. First proper northern record was Blowing my mind to pieces, which a Polish lad played to me about 71 round a mates house in Rushden. Wasn't actually hooked at that stage, I liked it, but was comparing it to Tell me it's just a rumour, I got a feeling and other Motown bits, really got into it in 73 when I started going to the nags head in Wollaston. BMMTP was played along with the likes of Let her go, and Right track etc, very fond early memories
  23. I really liked it, definite Jimi sound to it vocally, a bit too quick to dance to for us old folk, however good the gear
  24. ''when my arms reach out for something And I don't know what it is I just close, close my eyes And the first thing I visualise oh it's my sweet baby'' Marvin Gaye, Don't know exactly what it is about this song, but right from the intro through to the end I get goosepimples, even writing the lyrics has produced them, fabulous record IMO
  25. And on that note, I'll close the thread, because you could be right
