  1. Hi Uniglam, I don't mind doing surveys, but I have no idea who you are, or what your end game is, I presume it's a dissertation, but looking at what? I looked at your profile, very little information, I looked at your posts, but couldn't find an intro, call me old fashioned, but it's always nice to introduce yourself, mentioning where you go for your northern fix, or your preferred favourite sounds. Please don't take this personally, I'm not speaking on behalf of anybody else and if the Moderators feel this post should be removed, no probs with that, but I won't be doing this survey until I know a little more about you. Regards Winston
  2. There's a few in their twenties floating about, but don't expect a massive influx onto a scene that is currently fixated by it's own unwritten rules, because it just won't happen. For me, for a younger element to get truly involved then the music has to be able to stand alone, as we can't rely on the ''coolness'' element because as PTP and others have pointed out, we're all very old so not cool. For the music to stand alone it has to be accessible, because of the chosen format of the current scene, it isn't, and yes I know there's lots of good 10 and 20 pound records available, but it's still a fair bit of wedge for someone on a low income (due to age) when all the other elements are taken into consideration, beer, women/men clothes etc etc, I suspect that these sorts of things will not create the dedication seen on todays scene. What might happen is a mirror of our own scene amongst youngsters but with the rules and regulations much more relaxed, which is probably the best we can hope for as a legacy?
  3. Cheers Kev, I thought he was but wasn't quite sure, hadn't even realised the last one was so long ago, time really does fizz along.
  4. Was Sam running it then, or had someone else taken over?
  5. Likewise meeting you and Tezz Hope you're feeling better?
  6. I'd forgotten about Derby, only went a couple of times, but really liked the venue. Also forgot to mention Manchester Ritz, great atmosphere, however I'm one of those who didn't like that bouncing dance floor.......soz
  7. Middleton, Bretby, Winsford, Sheridans, Keele and the Rocket, loved them all, I know it wasn't to everybody's taste but the set up at Bretby was brilliant, least time spent on the dance floor with people holding beers. Should also give Prestwich a mention. Also Tony's in Blackburn. I suppose petrol was a lot cheaper a few years ago
  8. They're generally very quiet in real life Steve, but if you check their fingers they're all calloused up, from the constant typing
  9. Number 5 would be the ''Descartes'' I think I know everything about northern therefore I do I think I've been everywhere, therefore I have I think my opinion is more important than yours, therefore there can be no argument I think my history on the northern scene is unsurpassed, therefore it is I think everything I say is enthralling, interesting and edge of the seat stuff, therefore could you please wake up
  10. Just had a look at his facebook page, couldn't find any comments that weren't complimentary, they wouldn't have been deleted by any chance?
  11. He was the resident, they also had Steve Mancha and the contours on and a girl who's name I can't remember for some reason. Dave Rimmer would know, I thought the nighters were near the end of the nineties by the way
  12. I've seen it, Pete Smith did a really good review of it as I remember, but I can't find it, sure it's on here somewhere. For what it's worth, I thought as a box set it was ok, there were some interesting interviews as I recall.
  13. I've got a few, my favourite is the one I've got of my dancing shoes, I had it done cos I thought they were about to die, they've continued to survive, although another bit fell off last night
  14. Beeksy, you're not on about Loakes are you?
  15. You're both quite right
  16. Just not very northern
  17. I did the survey the other day, slipped into my high waisters, and bowling shirt, clapped and span at the end of each question to give it some authenticity KTF
  18. Distance travelled to venues, specific venues, whether you stay to the end or not, they all count for nothing really, they're only ''improved status'' to those who are of that particular limited mindset
  19. I thought you'd put on a bit of weight, but didn't like to say
  20. Rarely leave before the end of a nighter, although I did at the last Rugby, no reflection on the music/people/venue by the way, it's just I wasn't driving, so options were limited. The last hour has always been the pinnacle for me, and the time to say to myself, yep I survived another one  The last hour has always been the best for dancing
  21. Nobody has to explain their actions regarding going to nighters NIge, it's a personal choice, anybody who knows you, knows you're ''proper''. Winnie
  22. Bisley, Willington, Prestwich, Lowton, all of them had a 4 O'clock finish from time to time, liked them all. The Dome, as Matt said always felt like a nighter, but then again, who actually goes to bed straight after having been to any soul related function
  23. Stick it in the suggestion box................. It's at the back of the hall, in between the 'do you leave early' doors and the clocking in machine
  24. If people don't like a thread, why do they feel the need to tell everybody by posting. Why not just move onto another one?
  25. Chill Nige When you look at the basics of northern (outside of new sounds) there's very little that hasn't been discussed before, it can be a bit 'groundhog' day, from time to time, but we have to take into account, people are joining source all the time, so maybe haven't seen/read/contributed to these topics in the past. As always mate, it's ''enjoy what you enjoy'' x
