  1. ============ STOP PRESS. Chocolate found in N/S venue. Government enquiry to follow. Back in the fold David Blunkett, fresh from his Stork vs Butter campaign victory, will take a leading role. Tony Blair, said, David was so good at spotting the difference we thought we'd try him on "Milk vs Plain". The sun says.."Let's hope his "Choco" campaign is more successful, than his "My wife or yours" debacle of a few months ago. Winnie:-)
  2. =========== Can you thank Mick H for replying Mike. I was hoping he would make a comment. Winnie:-)
  3. =========== They may have a slight odour I suppose the point is that we're not children, but these sort of, we know what's best bans, just really annoy me. Not because I smoke, but because of the infringement of civil liberties. Having read some of the posts though, about membership, hopefully it won't raise it's head again. In a previous reply, I saw that there was a non smoking policy at Mick H's do in Nottingham. I don't know if it affected attendances, but it was interesting that they are moving venues. Will the new venue also have a no smoking policy? Winnie:-)
  4. ========== Someone took drugs at Wigan? Are you sure Winnie:-)
  5. ========== The thing I resent Rach, is the hypocracy. I can go in a shop and buy them but then I am restricted as to where I smoke them. I'm not talking about Cinemas, hospitals etc, just places that are meant to be for entertainment. Winnie:-)
  6. =========== Hence me saying hopefully Haven't read the book, you know that, the opening 3 pages put me off, but I will give it another go. Winnie:-)
  7. =========== I'm gonna try and give up on new years eve, so hopefully it won't affect me. Now if only they'd ban alcohol in venues! Winnie:-)
  8. ========== He must be holding the ciggy wrongly. Should be held in palm, with the burning end facing one's self. That way you can only burn yourself. Well that's how we used to do it anyway But what happens if they ban it altogether? What next ban drink? Winnie:-)
  9. Bearing in mind the new legislation that the government is bringing in re: smoking. Will many venues have to re-visit there smoking policy, and could it affect attendances. If this has already been covered, soz, if it has, could somebody point me in the direction of the thread so I can read up on it. Personally as a smoker, I'd find it hard to frequent a venue where I couldn't smoke. Winnie:-)
  10. ============ Was that in the 80Ts? The venue was in Sharnbrook Bedfordshire, it's now a delapidated building. Do you remember who the promoter was? Winnie:-)
  11. =============== Surely the voice is the instrument of the soul? Winnie:-)
  12. =========== Can't see how anybody can truly disagree with you mate. Without vocals they're basically just tunes. Granted some of them are nice, but soulful? Just can't agree with that. Winnie:-)
  13. ========= I know nothing was meant And I did read through the previous thread. Don't think many people will have changed their views either way. Winnie:-)
  14. ========= Chalkster, only said disregard cos if it's been done to death before, well it can be/go a little stale quickly Winnie:-)
  15. ============ Can an instrument implore you, plead with you? I don't think so. Some records (and I realise the lyrics have something to do with it) can move me to tears...the voices quivering with emotion. Is there one instrumental that can do that? Sax, trumpet, guitar, IMO none of them can recreate the emotion that's within the human voice. Winnie:-)
  16. =========== Didn't realise it'd come up before. Have started to read through the thread Soz, disregard the post Winnie:-)
  17. Just wondered what people thought about instrumentals? I know they've been part of the scene forever, but personally I find them pretty unsoulful. Why listen to the Instr of "Who are you trying to fool", when the vocal oozes class and soul. Or "Crying over you", as another example. Don't get me wrong, I will dance to instrumentals, but half the time I find myself singing the vocal, as I much prefer them. Winnie:-)
  18. ============= The aqua was in Hednesford. Obviously never went into the ladies, but as I remember the blokes was ok. But what a dance floor, absolutely gorgeous. You sure it wasn't cos the bar shut a couple of hours before the venue wasn't the reason you disliked it? Really good venue in my opinion. Winnie:-)
  19. ============ Karen? Spot? Catching? Sounds a little contagious to me Winnie:-)
  20. ========== Love this...also Ron Holden, Freddie Chavez, Johnny Caswell....the list could be endless. As the thread starter said, oldies that you love just change all the time Winnie:-)
  21. ========== I do agree that sometimes a 'nobody' plays a record and no one dances, but I don't generally agree about Butch. He's done his time, turned up loads of great tunes, and so gets the respect he deserves. Winnie:-)
  22. ============== Think you're right, women are judged more harshly than men, but that is in all walks of life. Not saying it's right, just saying it happens. I know this won't be a popular view, but I also think the girls on the scene seem to be victim these days to the 'predators' that wander the venues. When I say victim I don't mean that they fall for the flannel put out by some of these guys, but I have seen many girls harrassed. Just my opinion by the way...but the scene has definitely changed over the years. Winnie:-)
  23. ============ Barry White also in Ally McBeal and Whitney Houston...Bodyguard Isn't Ray Charles in something..Blues brothers maybe, head a little fuzzy at the moment, but sure I've seen him in something Winnie:-)
  24. ========= Just showing my usual ineptitude when sat in front of a keyboard Mike Winnie;-)
