  1. Jeffreys was a curtain and fabrics store for some strange reason had a couple of boxes of pressings on the counter. Played football with Geof many moons ago,but never got round to asking him why they sold records in a curtain shop.
  2. Rebels Sheffield remember L.T.D. being played there. Great venue for modern soul lovers at that time. There were a few cracking album tracks at the time as well as independant sevens.
  3. Sorry for that just to say top track given exposure in the modern rooms i think this would go big. Anyone got a copy on 7 inch?
  4. Some nice album tracks late Wigan/ Clifton Hall Bobby King. If you dont want my love. L.T.D Love magic. Impressions. Dont wanna loose your lovin. Charles Veal. New found love. Norman Conners. Shes Gone. Mighty Fire. Sweet fire. Webster Lewis. Let me be the one. Great tunes that needs gttin plays again.
  5. Loved the part in the making of the stange world of northern soul dvd when he was helping to show the crew round a record store in Pilly. The owner was talking when Welton butted in Hey you guys from England would get a hardon in here. Priceless stuff seemed to come over as a witty and very cheery guy. God bless the big man.
  6. Its just the love of soul music full stop. I get only one or two a week(building up a collection again after selling a goldmine of records a few years back). Nothin expensive but still quality sounds these days. But still get the other half asking how much was this and that , to which i reply got this for a five or ten quid but its worth 30,50(sometimes100) also throw in the magic word investment. Does she believe me? The good thing is she loves the music as well so if likes a certain record shell ask if i can obtain it. Shes got a collection now of 5 records(cheep boots off ebay, keeps her happy ). I can imagine the investment phase is the most popular exuse used, but the way things are going well all be millionaires! Anyway going onto ebay and check some lists for some more litte soul gems.
  7. Later years of Wigan. Ike Strong. Your love keeps me dancing. Bobby Thurston. Just ask me. Mike Jemison. Youll never get my love. Larry Houston. Lets spend sometime together. Goin to the casino in its last years these blew me away (some punters didnt like the modern stuff) still loved the sixties but this was something different. .
  8. When does Soulboy 2 go into production ?
  9. I and the mug pays over the top prices for them!
  10. Tommy Tate. You taught me how to love (puffed out,had to sit down for an hour anda bit last time i jigged to this) Also Archie Bell. Everybody have a good time.
  11. Think bookings by phone only . Would pay a 100 sqiud alone to hear Dorothy Moore sing Misty Blue alone!
  12. Great line up well worth the dosh to near Blackpool though, cant do everything these days. Sure it will be a great event for all those who get their hands on tickets.
  13. First weekender was fleetwood with friends, which blew them away(music, atmosphere, away from kids)! Blackpool tower Awsome surroundings ,great dancefloor and brilliant crowd. Out and about in Blackpool on Saturday(watching a Scotland game in the Jaggie Thistle with fellow jocks). Saturday night in the tower dance compitition place just buzzin till the early hours. Sunday up the soulsuite after the sunday session,i think anybody whos been there will say what a great way to finish the weekend.
  14. Gateway tunes. Got into northern through my big bro, Listened to the usual suspects Al Wilson,3 before 8,R.Dean Taylor ect before getting into the nighter scene. Went to nighters in Edinburgh(Clouds one of the best nighters at the time in the country at the time),then attending Wigan late 70s till its closure. This is the time Searling,Sam &Pat brady started to bring in 70s such as Will Collins,Roy Dawson,Mike Jemison,Larry Houston,Larry Brown,Daybreak,Pages, Bobby Thurston. With sounds like these who could ignore modern soul. Bobby Thurston Just Ask Me is the one that blew me away, one of the first album tracks i bought from soul bowl(and not the last). The modern sounds just got betterwith the above djs late Wigan,Rotheram and Rebels Sheffield(anyone remember this one) playing more album tracks Tony Fox,Zingara,LTD,L.j Reynolds,Mighty Fire,Charles Veil,Garry Glenn,The Impressions and the rest(can anybody add to this). These days still love the music, like yourself can listen to all decades of the music from Dee Clark to Mario Biondi(given up on the priests)! Your topic has made the old braincells go into overdrive thinking of some of the tracks played at gigs over the years. Just listening to solar radio as i write this Jonethon Butler track So strong is on which does take you to another level. Hope to see you at the tower in november(speak to you every year Usually pissed) . Maybe go for a game of bingo over weekend! Cheers Pete.
  15. Eddie Holman. I surrender, great intro then eddie pours his heart out.
  16. Must agree after a couple more listens its not got soul in it(no wonder mrs Searling & Anderson said they couldnt remember it). Maybe had too many beers on the train to Wigan all those years ago. Thanks for the info & comments guys Pete. IT IS A STRANGE WORLD OF NORTHERN SOUL
  17. Cheers for that Simon. After all those years trying to remember this tune,Ive listened to it a couple of times. I must admit it sounds a bit poppy, but if Mr Searling played it couldnt have been that bad. Maybe the era it was played(start of in my opinion modern soul Omini,Roy Dawson ,Daybreak,Larry Brown ect) mixed with the big sixties discoverys it kinda fitted in.
