Yes. Who first did 'Hot Wire' on Grand Land (later re done by Al Green) then re-released on Palmer then who did 'Savin' All My Lovin'.
-
When I first got me my copy of the People's Choice (that was THE humming tune in my head back then) and played it home I instinctively played Al Green's 'Don't Leave Me' after not knowing then the interconnections. And while playing 'Easy To Be True' I then played 'Back Up Train' and realized that these sessions really had something in common....

Likely the prices it commands finally allowed some stateside collectors to finally part with their old filler copies. Most in VG downward condition. All at once. But for how long ? Guessing that they pressed up as many promotional copies as the People's Choice for the very few stockers of the Jimmy Mack to be found it should be rarer on that account alone... But I agree with you that the People's Choice is a hell of a tune. And in comparison much better. Something's off for me with 'My World Is On Fire'. While Jimmy's flip 'Go On' is my play side....

John Manship Auction results 4th December 2024.
Tlscapital replied to Woodbutcher's topic in All About the SOUL
OK I get your point on the 'dee-jay' and the NS dancers in this matter (but also true in other circles). We see it happening just too often. Until the forwarded dee-jays get shadowed by some BIG name for "kicking it off"... Any of that do indeed affect the demand and so the prices accordingly. -

In real the Monarch styrene abc (not PARAMOUNT) pressing is the rarest pressing variant for this Shepards 45. Then comes its abc stocker vinyl counterpart. Then only the ABC-PARAMOUNT stocker and finally its white label promo variant being the most "common" one. Not necessary less desirable all the same. Yet I'd doubt that the price should differ that much in regard of rarity factor for any of these variants. Just a seller's pitch infatuation argument IMHO. -
German coverage of 'Northern Soul Revival' happening in London
Tlscapital commented on Clee93's article in Soul Music News
Little only. More punters than collectors or acrobatic dancers IMHE. -
Yes more of a 'belief' indeed but dates, places, peoples and similarity in voice and singing and first name make it a theory. Only that but it 'holds water' IMHO too.

No Billy Keene on Vault is styrene... -
Jimmy Mack would date May (or about) 1967. With a quote of its release in the BillBoard of May 13th 1967. And the Precisions 'If This Is Love' appears in the issue of the BilBoard of August 12th 1967. 4 months later ! The Jimmy 'Soul' Clark theory holds water on datas and matching singing (with the Teek's gear) but until...

German coverage of 'Northern Soul Revival' happening in London
Tlscapital commented on Clee93's article in Soul Music News
What it is is that they seem to be pressed to be in the 'highlights' and not underground. Not bothered to play OVO or to worship the soulful artistry more than themselves (as a group at least). Nothing seems 'sacred'. Making it another thing than what the 'codes' (no matter how evolutive) of the old and few in-betweens were / are since... Borrowing the 'Northern Soul' brand and its 'clichés' more than its 'sub-culture' and "values". Good or bad I don't know. For sure not my thing. Never would have been. Although am an 'in-between' (54 years old only) and seen as a youngster on the scene once. Looking up and learned from those I looked up to. -
Clean and cleaner copies of Jimmy Mack demand such amounts to find their ways out of collections and back onto the market. But it's a 'big' price I agree. Although in correlation with others rare and big TOP500 sounds. But featuring the musical bonus on the flip side as Tim Brown indicated...

Manship's Auction Results- Nov. 27, 2024

The Paula "drier" mix on both sides of this Billy Keene's fantastic double-sider is much less sexier than the Vault one is filled with reverbs and depths. But £295 is too much indeed. The Master Plan's 'Clinton Park' mix on Fos-Glo is also something else to get accustomed to if like me you've played 10,000 times your De-Lite copy before... But then after what a treat ! -
Ambers - potion of love 67. vs 74. release
Tlscapital replied to Psamsara's topic in All About the SOUL
I think not. But from the record's company group there's a few on Mercury and Philips too... -
If stacking them mats up, check VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle) if it's still 'horizontal'.... Tonearm to record with stylus in the groove. Idealy 'neutral' or optimal VTA setting is 100% horizontal. But In practice some might find that their stylus works better with the tonearm 'tail up' some or 'tail down' even.... Some (if not all) Reloop turntables seem to have that similar VTA adjustability like the SL-1200's have to bring the tonearm base up or down a little. Enjoy tweaking !

Ambers - potion of love 67. vs 74. release
Tlscapital replied to Psamsara's topic in All About the SOUL
Kept the 'original' pressing that looked but also sounded better (louder mastering for a punchier and clearer playback) on my so-so phono set-up sometime 20 yeas ago. Now I know that many don't hear such playback differences on many records but I do -
Digitalized mastering job it will undergo...

Almost 4 years on but 19 days to go for the fourth year remembrance + Dobber late post might fool more than one... Corrected 12 days past due...

Rare and fantastic sole release for this singer with a slick dancer that got some deserved deck action. Topped with a great slab of deep sweet soul on the flip. Look and listen at the actual copy for sale. Ex- looking and playing copy with a mere large round sticker 'shadow' mark (2 O'clock) on the 'Get Away' side. Strict grading of an EX copy to an EX- with only mere marks of wear on label (seems worse on scans than in real) and sticker mark. Open to trades and offers. stepping.mp3

This is a great little 'tell tale'. Thanks for that. Even the toilet bit is spicy IMB. Fab. Just as it is strange as unless the Larry Allen pressings doesn't share the actual scratched in matrix (I never could compare but only read that they were "matching") they both seem to come from the same pressing plant at least. Going by what the label seem to indicate. But then what about the Record World snippet article promoting Jerry Reed's Record Company stall naming Larry Allen ? This indicates that by 1966 (few months only after the release of the L. Allen release) that this release was still regarded with greater commercial appeal and potential but under the Larry Allen credit. It's mind puzzling somehow...

Jeree Records's numbering system seems a bit all over the place. Early releases used two numbering system. One for the release and another one for to date (?) the sessions maybe ? Jeree 100 65-3 & 65-4 and Jeree 101 65-1 & 65-2. Indicating earlier sessions released after later ones or something of that sort. Jeree release G&C 114 65-5 & 65-6 predating L. Allen's next release on Green Dolphin label is just following with its numberings G&C 115 65-7 & 65-8. Likely indicating a late 1965 release for L. Allen. While Jeree G&C 117 is also 65-7 & 65-8 !!! Anyway. At least this corroborates the 1965 release theory of the L. Allen and the Band Of Angels release to be set more likely in 1965. The Record World article snippet of May 1966 credits Larry Allen and not L. Allen release. So could it be that the Larry Allen release was a second 1966 run of press after the L.Allen one ? Remember reading that locally 'Somewhere There is Paradise' got some success. But could it be that they over evaluate the demand while it was taming down ?

You mean especially such seller's tale Who later pulled out copies of each presses out of its sleeves...

Not to slide off the topic here but the L. Allen versus the Larry Allen has been discussed on here before (LAYB) years ago. Leaning to the conclusion that the L. Allen would be first. Even though the Larry Allen press would prove to be slightly rarer after all... But not that much. All this against all old beliefs. Like many thinks. After the internet even more so. FWIW Popsike gives 11 copies of the Larry Allen sold on the eVilBay and 12 copies of the L. Allen sold on the eVilBay. The difference there if ever is not consistent. Discogs 1 of each.

Hi Mick, may I ask ; - What Luther Ingram press was it ? Atco distributed ? Vinyl or styrene ? Green or orange ? - What title of Patti Austin was it and what was its reserve / starting price ? Thanks, Tim
