John Manship Auction Results 19-3-2014
Tlscapital replied to JOE TORQUAY's topic in Look At Your Box
That I honestly do not know. I was always totally put-off by the colored "hippie" look-a-like label that I once gave a 10 second listen to agree with myself that I ain't never gonna acquire that record. So I thought had no need to listen to the dull looking pinkish label... -

Without any disrespect to the Rare Soul Man, I thought the start of the record description was just great and sufficient. Really. But, then maybe the "collectors" wouldn't have feel the urge to struggle that hard bidding as it could have been read both ways ! How could I still DJ from now on and still look at my record collection without owning this attractive colored labelled record ? Velvet Hammer Happy No comments required .. Everything speaks for itself.. If your a DJ it’s totally essential - if you’re a serious collector you will desire it on it’s most-attractive multi-coloured label.. -

Timmy's Radio Podcasts On Mixcloud/cloudfunk
Tlscapital replied to Tlscapital's topic in All About the SOUL
Good morning world ! Here's my last podcast edited for the mixcloud/cloudfunk station. Strictly OVO and with an uncertain or undeliberate selection or collection of 45's full of souvenirs, tastes (good & bad) and sometime with a tongue in cheek attitude. https://www.mixcloud.com/Cloudfunk/timmy-soul-presents-spin-a-cookie-and-boogie-with-the-wookiee/ -
'i've Got To Get Myself Together' Who Was First ?
Tlscapital replied to Tlscapital's topic in Look At Your Box
Thanks all for those infos. Now, does this makes sense ? As Chalky said first, the 'S' in the matrix indicate a year (1965) for the recording session. Then Bob's copyright entry as 29 november 1965 with Carter and Edmonds as writers indicate again it was a 1965 project and with both credits AS credited on Spyder Turner 45 on Good Time records. So it could have been issued anytime late 1965 by Spyder Turner and apparently at the same time Kenny Carter was already aiming at bigger things with RCA and cut his own version before releasing it at a later date (may 1966) but making his own credits (Fred Skau is Kenny himself, thanks for that Ady) for god knows what credential reasons. Could it be a story like that ? -
'i've Got To Get Myself Together' Who Was First ?
Tlscapital replied to Tlscapital's topic in Look At Your Box
Apparently Spyder had had a deal somehow with MGM with his 'stand by me' in june 1966 following the buzz with his then "Ã la mode" mocking tribute to all the big name artists interpreting 'stand by me'. Those MGM promos were all doubled 'A' sides and. Wich suggests that that the MGM executives were somehow in the betweens on "the what to do with this NEW HOT product". So after the HIT was confirmed a"rush" commercial releases had to have a 'B'side but short of material they threw in 'you're good enough for me' that is actually not Spyder Turner but a Thelma recording by none other than Emmanuel Laskey (even though it is credited to ST !). By 1967 Spyder Turner had an LP and a second 45 'I can't make it anymore' taken from the LP just before closing down his deal with MGM. -
'i've Got To Get Myself Together' Who Was First ?
Tlscapital replied to Tlscapital's topic in Look At Your Box
All USA RCA discographies I've seen give Kenny Carter 'get myself together' RCA 47-8841 in the middle of their 1966 production and match one time as may 1966 (middle 1966) ! -
While watching the live video of Spyder Turner at Prestatyn, the old question came back to me so bad I had to post it up here; I always assumed that Kenny Carter was first releasing this in may 1966. While the credits on Kenny Carter's RCA release are totally different than on the Spider Turner's Good Time release (where it even credits Kenny Carter as co-writer) to give no clue what so ever on the who's-who's, it suggests that a copyright issue is in the can. For some non factual reasons, I always thought that Kenny Carter's record was prior. But that would be totally the other way around according to Spyder Turner if what he said introducing this song on stage is true; Spyder says he was ABOUT 17 years old when he recorded the song in 1964 (that could match with his birthday in february 1947). Then he would have recorded 'get myself together' in 1964 (it doesn't sound that early IMHO) as a prize after winning the talent contest at the Apollo. His 'ABOUT' 17 years old tells us that his memory is not so accurate and it could maybe be some time after. Still, it could be 1965 or somewhere like that. The date would then be the issue about who was first to record it. It would then put Spider Turner's version first. But then what is the connection/story with the Kenny Carter on the credit ? And then what about Kenny Carter not crediting himself on his version ? Anybody with more insight around and about this ?

Wonderful double sider that sold for more recently on that auction site that is now making profit even on the postage service on the buyer's backs. Look and listen to both scans and sound clips of both the 'A' side that is often overlook for the mercyless soulful floor rambler 'B' side 'where did I go wrong'. 90 £ NOW 80 £ FREE POST TO ALL OVER THE WORLD ! Timmy's Radio Podcasts On Mixcloud/cloudfunk
Tlscapital replied to Tlscapital's topic in All About the SOUL
Here's the last podcast issued today on the site www.mixcloud.com/cloudfunk The playlist can be seen when played and there are gaps/deformed/hijacked credits here and there to be found if ever... Once again, it's aiming to Joe Public as to amateurs and fans alike. So the connoisseurs won't find much to none to discover here. But maybe to re-discover... https://www.mixcloud.com/Cloudfunk/timmy-soul-presents-the-unofficial-fda-aproved-regression/ -

Tmg Or Us Original, Which Would You Go For Generally?
Tlscapital replied to Soulstu's topic in All About the SOUL
I love labels, they are fascinating to my eyes and I do understand the collecting of the UK releases. But, when it comes to get the issue to have and hold on to, first issues should get my preference. Then you have this picture sleeve factor that can make another point in needing to own. My Scanner is out of use, so capture those few from the net; and many more off course that make those Holland pressings highly collectable even amongst those not into soul music (sic). And as I point out in another topic, I once compared my US release with those Holland ones as I barely never hold on to "doubles" and keep only one, and they do sound alike very close. While on those TMGs things, they do sound "clean" (too clean) like the Funkbrothers were muffled away somehow during the re-mastering process. Quoting them on what makes the funk ? : "it's the grease on the chord". I like my audio sound right, and that is a tricky thing when you do want to hear it from it's original format that can vary so much from quality styrene (hiss issue) to cheap and poorly produced product on low-fi vinyl (woof issue). It does takes forgiveness (upgrades), money (investment) and time (yearsss) to set up a sound system to do justice to those dearly beloved plastic music mediums. I always understood that one of the major argument for the pros of the TMGs was that on hi-end audio systems, it sounded "purer". Agreed, but I like my sound whole and fat & greasy with it. As it should be IMHO. I'm living in Belgium and I do love to collect Belgium presses (for patriotic reasons ) and neighborhood countries when they are in any particular (even ridiculous) way good looking and well released sound wise. this could have been the cover of a '78 new wave or power pop band But I'm not bothered to have them all. Saying this; is there any non-brits out there collecting (I mean collecting not just having a few) the TMGs ? I never encounter one myself. On the other hand I've met for other good reasons British Sue collectors that were not British. And even one guy, doing it the other way around; collecting all the US releases that came out on British Sue. That is because it's a good "witness", flashy label and company sleeve label of the mod era at it's peak in the early-mid 6Ts. BTW, I'm not collecting anything for "it's everything" as such. I'm just trying to get hold of what I want the way I want it (and that can be tricky at times) and it is with the sole aim to play them home or out. So I'm not keeping what I don't play anymore and so I'm not having everything in any particular category. I actually respect those who do so since it is interesting for informative reasons also. But I do not agree (while not getting in an argument) with the "hype" around the "safe" in every way aspect of the pros of the TMG's criteria. And finally like said prior here, I do understand the whole thing around for those who got into this music picking up first those British release in the shops and still have a kick about them. -
Natural High is indeed a great LP (full of good stuffs) and what a thrill to discover that this was them and him (Mr LOVE) also after some Google action. I had to have it more than just on a tape and then, when I got hold of a copy I discover this side that "killed" the uptempo northern side. Bless you Charles and thank you for all of this;

Well after a listening is rather just the mastering works that alters so much the sound. The take is the same 100%. A lot of people are gonna hate me here for this, but my ears are American and I'm just not used to those British mastering works. They do alter the sound so much it becomes another tune. I never really got into those UK Tamla Motown and favored my US's release and so beautiful and collectible Holland Artone press that do sound just like the US's.
