  1. Totally agree with you brett.
  2. The thing is though Ian, hundreds of people haven't been pouring through the doors due to these ads, but it might have been the catalyst for two or three people to hunt down a cd in HMV or check out a soul night. You either have soul in you or you dont. A tv add cant give you that but it can help find it for those that do!
  3. Wasn't having a do at you ian. Just went off on one towards the end of the post. I understand what your saying but i think its good if the music is being exposed.
  4. I think its top if people are getting into the music even if they are hearing it on the tv. Who cares how they hear it. You shouldn't have to have an amazing story about how you got into the music or on the scene. If a young lad or lass heard those songs on tv and suddenly thought " wow, this is amazing stuff... i need to hear more", and then they go to a local night and get hooked then great. Whats wrong with that. Surely this should be encouraged so that in years to come people are still out there on the floor keeping the music alive. Why do a certain crowd like to think that this music is theirs and want to take it to their graves. Its pathetic. I've been on the scene for about a year and listening for about 3 years and i might not know all the artists or have a mega record collection, but the point is i love the music and its changed my life. If the KFC ads bring this great music into more young people's lives then FANTASTIC!!
  5. I got one for christmas and i cant leave the house without it now. 3000 motown and northern songs on, bang it on random and it makes bus journeys enjoyable! Anyone who's thinking about getting one - DO IT!!!!!!! Cant praise the little buggers enough.
  6. 14? I never knew that - astonishing! One of the best loved sounds on our scene. link
  7. When the lead singer from soft cell was in that accident a bit back there was a bit about it in the paper going on about his career. The words were something like..." Marc Almond shot to fame in the band soft cell with a cover of tainted love, originally by Northern soul...". So some reporter must have shouted accross the office, "who sang that originally" and his mate must have answered..." Oh, thats a northern soul record" ans the geezer thought northern soul was a band!! Total muppits!
  8. Ha ha bloody ha!
  9. Ill never stop loving you - carla thomas Love love love - bobby hebb I hear a symphony - Stevie Wonder version (same words but better voice) Please let me in - jj barnes
  10. You can sing them to me at the ducie after 17 pints if you like jamie...
  11. definitely marvin. One of my fave tunes at the moment. Played it at the ritz and i was a very happy camper.
  12. i bloody missed it. Its meant to be really good from what i've read. Did anyone see shameless the other day. The next door neighbour with the oasis hair do ,looks just like a lad on the scene. Total ringer, thought it was him at first.
  13. I never kiss and tell.....
  14. Is it true that the price of a pint over there is the equivilent to a weeks worth of shopping over here!!!! Are there many niters or is it mainly nights.
  15. Its all about give and take reg. Half an hour round the shops then a quick weekender, candle lit meal - wolf it down - then off to a nighter. Like i say, give and take. The key to any successful trip.
  16. Prob from start of june for a month to six weeks. Def want to get over to sweden to check the scene out. I've heard its mega!
  17. Hopefully im off round europe this summer for a month or so with my good lady friend and i want to catch some soul nights. Anyone know of any good ones worth planning my tip round. Hoping to get to germany, france, sweden... well everywhere, so listings for any nights anywhere will do. Ah'thankya.
  18. Suppose i could risk one in there before hand. it looks like the kind of pub that will be full of les battersby's playing darts and singing on the kareoke. Failing that i could always see the sights around sunny dewsbury.
  19. Is it a 10pm start tomorrow. Does anyone know of anywhere to have a cheeky pint before hand cos we'll be there for tea time. Oooohh i am looking forward now. Hope the floor doesn't end up mega slippy with all the sweat.
  20. if a track is as good as that ( i walked away ) why would it take a brave man to play it. I find it very strange that tracks get overlooked for the reason that some might turn their nose up at it. Who cares what these people think. Just because it hasn't been played for X amount of years surely doesn't mean that it should be forgotten for ever!!!!
  21. Could this be the last we see of you in the NW then ben?
  22. B+B in dewsbury, £40 for a double room and a late check out. The owner was really friendly and even offered to do a late breakfast. 5 mins from centre of dewsbury. 1924 450237
  23. Oi Yorkshireman, us dingles dont take too well to abuse Sharon and julie might not be able to get sitters which leaves me and the bird struggling.
  24. Its been only highs for me. I've got into a brilliant scene and met loads of really nice people. Been lucky enough to get to cleethorpes and hemsby weekenders and been a regular at the new century nights and got over to sheridans a few times. And just to top it off, got an ipod for christmas so im currently busy trying to fill 10,000 tracks on it. Have a good new year everyone.
  25. Me and my girlfriend might be needing a lift for the new years bash cos Reg might not be going. Can get over to manchester if thats any good for anyone. If anyone has any room it would be much appreciated. Cheers.
