Mad For It
Did you just slag the mondays cos they were druggies? What about mr cobain's love affair with captain jack? I do think that nirvana were really good. Kurt had such a haunting voice and on the unpugged album he reached his peak IMO. But the mondays had a raw edge about them. All no hopers with a bit of hope. I think that they were a really important band, just what music needed at the time. Songs like WFL, do it better, tart tart, kuff dam, fooking amazing and i wont be told otherwise!! So there

Mad For It
They weren't really part of the madchester scene music wise, but i do think they have some great songs. Say something is class.

Mad For It
Yeah, he was the first mondays manager. Used to own a clothes shop where the mondays shopped and it went on fron there. I really loved the happy mondays. My cousins husband got me listening to all the manchester stuff and i got into it in a big way.......until i discovered northern soul about 3 years ago. I think nirvana are a great group too, but the mondays are better for me. As for clint boon playing a selection of northern songs......please! His idea of a northern set is playing the snake followed by tainted love. I once asked him to play just a little misunderstanding and he said no chance cos noone would know it!!!! Mani is a big northern fan. My dads mate went on holiday and mani was in the same hotel. He had loads of northern cd's with him and was an all round good egg!

Looking For Northern Soul Dancers
We'll have to work on Shane. He's seen better days in my opinion. And steve Cato isn't a day over 24.

Totally agree with you brett.

Kentucky Fried Citizens
The thing is though Ian, hundreds of people haven't been pouring through the doors due to these ads, but it might have been the catalyst for two or three people to hunt down a cd in HMV or check out a soul night. You either have soul in you or you dont. A tv add cant give you that but it can help find it for those that do!

Kentucky Fried Citizens
Wasn't having a do at you ian. Just went off on one towards the end of the post. I understand what your saying but i think its good if the music is being exposed.

I think its top if people are getting into the music even if they are hearing it on the tv. Who cares how they hear it. You shouldn't have to have an amazing story about how you got into the music or on the scene. If a young lad or lass heard those songs on tv and suddenly thought " wow, this is amazing stuff... i need to hear more", and then they go to a local night and get hooked then great. Whats wrong with that. Surely this should be encouraged so that in years to come people are still out there on the floor keeping the music alive. Why do a certain crowd like to think that this music is theirs and want to take it to their graves. Its pathetic. I've been on the scene for about a year and listening for about 3 years and i might not know all the artists or have a mega record collection, but the point is i love the music and its changed my life. If the KFC ads bring this great music into more young people's lives then FANTASTIC!!

In Todays Mirror
When the lead singer from soft cell was in that accident a bit back there was a bit about it in the paper going on about his career. The words were something like..." Marc Almond shot to fame in the band soft cell with a cover of tainted love, originally by Northern soul...". So some reporter must have shouted accross the office, "who sang that originally" and his mate must have answered..." Oh, thats a northern soul record" ans the geezer thought northern soul was a band!! Total muppits!

A Little Trip Around Europe
Is it true that the price of a pint over there is the equivilent to a weeks worth of shopping over here!!!! Are there many niters or is it mainly nights.
-
A Little Trip Around Europe
Its all about give and take reg. Half an hour round the shops then a quick weekender, candle lit meal - wolf it down - then off to a nighter. Like i say, give and take. The key to any successful trip.
