  1. Totally disagree Dan. I took five lads down to the birmingham all niter a couple of weeks ago and up until 6 months ago none of them had even heard of northern soul. They all love it now and two of them are now on the scene. Yes you can have a late drink elsewhere these days and yes you can play on the latest computer games or watch sky sports, but does this really change the pulling power of the music. Not having a go at you Dan but i cant stand the attitude that some people have towards the future of the music. Why are scenes dead? The music sounds just as good to my ears when i hear new tracks as it did to the lads down wigan/wheel when it all started. The problem is that no bugger can get on the scene without being introduced by a soulie. I'm 24 and i dread the thought of there being no niters in 10 years. I have no doubt that the scene could be filled with a younger crowd, just like europe, if promoters would make the effort to promote to get the flyers out to these people. Rant over!
  2. What can i say, i'm a bird magnet mate!!!!
  3. I always wonder about her too. How does she get to events and who does she go with? She's always totally out of it.
  4. Who does everyone think is the best dancer on the scene nowadays, male/female. I personally like someone who can glide on the floor with little to no effort. Always impressed with Peter when i see him out. 100mph all night long.
  5. At hemsby last year i was looking forward to the live acts, but i find that they tend to break up the night. I think that they would be better on a bit earlier, say 8-9pm. That way it doesn;t break up the night and people can choose whether to see them or not.
  6. Luckily my girlfriend likes the music and gets out and about with me when she's not working. All's it took was various comps for the car and she was soon sayong "i love this one". She is also a very good dancer!
  7. Yeah i loved sheridans. Its a real shame that its finished,.
  8. What would everyone say was their fave all nighter. Being quite new to the scene I have only been to about 10 different venues and would rate them all. Id have to go with the kings hall for venue and CIS manchester for atmosphere. What do the rest of you think is the best/most worth going to in the country so i can keep an eye out for them. Also, i loved the smaller venues like goldbourne and sheridans. Anything else out there like those?
  9. When i feel the need and i can only be sure always go down well with my mates. Big Colin listens to nothing but wham.
  10. Peter, every time i see you, you always say "im getting too old for this" but i honestly believe you'll never stop. You put us young un's to shame on the floor mate.
  11. Cheers Brett. Think ill get that one booked
  12. Cheers Alison, Im not a modern or 70's fan but the weekend sounds like a laugh. Anyone know the score on the northern room?
  13. Anyone going to the weekender. Is it worth a visit. There's a few of us thinking of going so would like some reports of past events. Cheers.
  14. I just dont find these sort of jokes funny but i suppose some people do. Im not offended or anything like that. Was a bit bored at work so thought id comment on something! So no need for apologies.
  15. I wouldn't class these types of jokes sick ,but when something has happened thats killed or injured people do we have to try and turn it into a joke. I for one dont see the funny side.
  16. Bob Hindsley played a fast inst on sat night and was wondering if anyone knows what its called. It was possibly by Doug someone. Anyone got an idea?
  17. Kev and Bev are back on the scene already. Circ all dayer, Kierby motown do, and the Kestrel Suite this Friday, then Fergies barbie for Bank Holiday Weekend. Bought a house on Brunshaw Road. The Chicago quiz looks do-able. About to start. Web site better than ever. Keep it up. Brian
  18. Darrel Banks - Open the door to your heart. Eyes shut, arms in the air and wail it out every time
  19. What, you and your mum?
  20. Supremes- itching in my heart. Imagine hearing that at a do for the first time. One of my faves. Failing that, got to go for aint too proud to beg.
  21. Why people think this is a bad idea really is beyond me. If cetain people believe that this would improve their confidence when at soul nights, or even get some new blood on the scene then that can only be a good thing. As for all those in favour of serving the infamous "northern soul dance apprenticeship", then i take it you would choose not to use a calculator in a maths exam because its cheating and would opt for an abacus, then sit there with your heads held high safe in the knowledge it took you three days longer to complete than everyone else.
  22. Please God no!
  23. Does it drive anyone else mad when dj's play modern tracks in the main hall when there's a modern room upstairs. I dont care if this is the "biggest modern track of the year", I dont want to hear it. And if i did turn temp insane and want to hear these tracks I would go into the modern room. Soul Sam played a few on sat at the kings hall and I couldn't understand why when it was billed as an oldies night. How well would a 60's stomper go down in the modern room, not well so why play modern in a main room? Rant over.
  24. Is it ok to pay on the door? Also does anyone know of a hotel nearby that cheap as chips? Chiggers!
