  7. Alright Dave, Yeah I know what you're saying and maybe I came across a bit blinkered (and I possibly am). I guess its just because I'm excited about what we're doing and want other people to give us a chance. I would never knock the northern scene but its a lot easier for a young person to pick faults in it I suppose. Northern soul is my passion and it always will be. I guess its hard trying to get "you lot" into my way of thinking when you have a perfectly good existing scene that caters for your needs. I'm finding that it doesn't cater for my needs as much these days. Not many young people coming onto the scene and that. Regarding your comments above, I totally agree with you Dave. I think you may have taken what I've been saying the wrong way. I'm not saying that what we do is the only way to do things, but for us it feels right. It may not be to everyones taste but nights playing nothing but northern may not be to everyones taste either. I'd LOVE to get to a night in Europe. Keep me informed mate and I'll take you up on your offer.
  8. Fair points mate I suppose. I guess we're just looking at it from different angles.
  9. They would mate and if you came down and saw it for yourself rather than make presumptions you'd probably give us a bit more credit. Not picking an argument here just wish people would believe what we're saying.
  10. Chalky, I think that the die hard northern attitude doesn't really apply amoungst the younger soul fans. Northern will always be my music but I love funk, ska, psych, garage, beat, etc and in my opinion this is the only way to keep nights like ours fresh and exciting. The northern scene, as you lot know it, will be dead in 10 years. We WILL carry it on but in our own way and it maybe won't comform to the way the scene is at the moment. Do you think that northern can be mixed in with other soul genres or do you think that it should remain seperate?
  11. Have to agree Gail. Beat Boutique gets a really good crowd and believe it or not its not all students. I'd say around 25% are students. The music still sounds as good now as it did when you lot were young. So why is it so difficult to believe that nights like ours can pull in a young crowd that genuinely like the music. To say that people come in and don't give a stuff whats played couldn't be further from the truth and I do find it a bit disrespectful.
  12. I would like to apologise for my outburst on here the other day. I was a bit pissed and was just trying to stick up for my mates. Me and Paul Sadot have been messaging each other and its now sorted. Anyway I'll be seeing the O'Grady boys tonight at Beat Boutique and believe you me i'll be giving them a jolly good ribbing......
  13. Yeah I'm bunking off with my mate Tucker. He's never heard of northern soul.
  14. Fair do's mate. Each to their own I suppose.
  15. I can't understand how you could be so against it without seeing it. Personally I wouldn't form an opinion (nevermind a strong opinion as many on here have) on something I know nothing about or haven't yet seen and I couldn't respect someone's opinion on a subject if that was the case.
  16. I love how people are avoiding this film because they've heard extras weren't treated correctly. POWER TO THE EXTRAS!!!!! YOU DIRTY FILTHY FILM MAKERS HAVE PUSHED US ON THE "ALL ABOUT SOUL" SECTION OF SOUL SOURCE TOO FAR!!!! When they hear that Joan and Jayne have walked from the thread they'll shit it.
  17. Paul the dancers in the play were novices that picked it up over a few months. Their homework was to attend a few nights and dance around a bit. You can't slag the film when they've chosen dancers that have been attending nights for years and some of them are actually pretty good. Much better than the guy's from the play. Matty Paul and Liam are all top dancers. If there style isn't exactly 1974 then does that really matter. People will see them for what they are - great northern soul dancers. I knocked around with one of the actors from the play for a few months whilst he was attending nights (the only one that was getting out regulary too) and he picked up a few routines but I didn't look at him and think "boy that lad looks like a northern soul dancer from 1974". Some things you can't learn and northern dancing takes years. I saw the play and thought it was great. I didn't think the dancing was great but that didn't matter to me because I enjoyed it for what it was. If that hadn't have been your play you'd probably still be on here slagging it. I think you need to grow up a bit and get in the real world.
  18. I mean slagging. And yes, it was a winner!
  19. I'm not calling the site because I've met some fantastic people through "oh that's so and so off soul source", but I have my gripes about it. Anyway, my corned beef hash is nearly ready and its the first time I've made it.
  20. Ian what about the new blood that came along 10 years ago, went on to start their own nights, got asked to be in music video's and film's and then came under a barrage of abuse for everything they've acheived in that short time. According to people on this site (and I'm not talking about everyone on here I'm talking about a minority that just so happen to be posting regulary therefore contribute greatly to the impression people get of the site as a whole) the night's we do are fad's, the video's are crap and the film's are shite. How do you expect us to respect these people? I know a lot of people that don't post on here anymore because it's so two faced and the amount of negativity it unbelievable. Young people are not respected on the soul scene as a whole. They will never penetrate the scene because the scene won't allow them to. That's why we're off doing our own thing now and the soul scene becomes irelivent to us because its stuck in the past and doesn't represent what we feel about soul music. The constant slagging hurts for a while. Then you learn to see it for what it really is. Jealousy.
  21. Paul, can I just say that you come across really badly on this forum. I think that you write a lot of these thing's to provoke people possibly for your own amusement but if there is one person I know that's not up his own arse it's Paul Walker. We all went down and did the film because it was a chance to be involved in something that doesn't happen to us lot every day. Whether we got paid or not didn't really matter to us. We just wanted to be involved in some capacity. Yes the production team were clueless. Yes we waited around for what was literally day's on end and that was enough for me to eventually pack it in and come home. But I don't regret doing it and we all had a really good laugh. Whether or not the style of dancing will be exactly like it was in 1974 doesn't really matter to 90% of the people that will watch it and it unimportant to the film, in my opinion. I think that people on this site are full of self importance and up their own arses if they believe thaf people in the outside world give a stuff about what they think. Because we certainly don't. If the film is crap or if it doesn't even make it to the big screen then it will be a shame. But let's be honest, the flim never stood a chance with the keyboard mafia on here. Anyway, you've done it Mr Sadot. You've made me bite so that's possibly 1-0 to you.
  22. Go on then i'll take it!
