  19. I'm interested to find out what the rare soul fans on here think of motown. And by that I mean the tunes that everyone knows. I was listening to the motown gold cd the other day and every single track on it was amazing. Fantastic production, amazing vocals, the lot. Do people on here share my views that songs such as you keep me hangin on, heatwave, standing in the shadows, hey love, shop around, are all timeless pieces of music or would you tag them as drab and boring? I know that there is a divide on here with the nostalgia scene / oldies scene v's the upfront and rare scene, but is motown the common ground that both camps have a foot in? Can the above tracks I've listed be thought of in the same way as the snake, dance dance dance, our love is in the pocket, etc or do we all love them? Does snobbery mean that only rare / un-released motown are worthy of a listen? I personally love rare soul and funk and listening to new and different stuff is what floats my boat. But I LOVE motown and I always will. What's your thoughts?

  23. I too was at the test screening and I have to agree with Beeks. The film was total dog shit. Really boring story, not much of a plot and some of the worst acting I've ever witnessed. They made a northern nighter look like a pansy parade. I doubt that this film will make it to the big screen if I'm being honest. I can't see who the target audience would be. There were a few positives and three good things about the film were, 1) The music. Some good choices and made my neck hairs stand up when they were first played. 2) One good sub plot about an abusive relationship that was quite well done in places. 3) When the lead character (who I thought was good) is first getting into the music and trying to learn to dance in his room. I thought that was well done. But it was so Jeckyl and Hyde it was un true. Some of the Casino scenes were shambolic to say the very least. The director chose to use the 'extras' dancing around the main characters rather than those that could at least shuffle about. It just looked so ameteur flashing from this England clips to some half wit bouncing from side to side. I can't wair to see the thread on here if this film makes it to the big screen. I could see it pushing a few people over the edge and leading to a 'Falling Down' scenario. There will definitely be heart attacks in the cinema and maybe even a massacre or two. Don't get me wrong, I wanted this film to be good and yes, we all had a great time doing it and it was a top laugh. But for me the production team only have themselves to blame. When the film finshed we were asked to fill in a questionaire. One of the questions was - what film does this one remind you of. My mate answered - Grease 2. I had to agree.
