Sunday Soul Brunch playlist, 7-12-15
Autumnstoned replied to clevesoulie's topic in Event Playlists - Reviews
Sounds like a nice gig to have. Would have played Jesse Fisher myself rather than let the venue owner play it! -
Enjoyed looking at your cuckoo photo's. They're brilliant!

The Beatles, Stax And A Ric-Tic Question
Autumnstoned replied to maslar's topic in All About the SOUL
If they had recorded at Stax, I wonder what their engineers would have made of Lennon asking them to record the guitar solos backwards on I'm Only Sleeping and Tomorrow Never Knows which involves flipping the 2" multitrack tape over on the tape machine, an unheard of request outside Abbey Road at that time, in pop music. Might not have happened which would have been a huge shame. On the other hand, they would have probably got a better drum sound. -
Happy Playing Mp3's And Cd's Nottingham
Autumnstoned replied to Peter99's topic in All About the SOUL
To be fair to the promoters, the article does say that the biggest draw is Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band which would be why they were offering higher priced tickets for "VIP" tables near the stage (plus refreshments). Get the impression that this was principally a commercial live music event ( one of the promoters has been involved in gigs with The Animals ) supplemented by the DJ''s ( "celebrity" DJ's in the case of Russ and Levanna to help draw a crowd) -
Norwich Backstreet Billy Playlist
Autumnstoned replied to Billywhizz's topic in Event Playlists - Reviews
Here's some of what I remember playing Gene Chandler - There Was A Time Lee Rogers - Go Go Girl Loretta Williams - Baby Cakes Terry Callier - Look At Me Now Mill Evans - Why Why Why Jesse Fisher - You're Not Loving A Beginner Gospel Classics - More Love.... Joe Hicks - Don't It Make You Feel Funky Robert Parker - I Caught You In A Lie Really enjoyed the night which was held in a very good new venue for this event. Hopefully Mick Howard will add his classy playlist which was superb. -
In defence of returnees, not all of us are only interested in the tunes heard in the 70's when we were teenagers. When I dipped my toe in again 5 years ago having not been to an all nighter since 1978 aged 17, I went to the 100 Club and have been a regular since then. Would say that my favourite tunes now are those which became popular after the so called halcyon days, Willie Tee FTOH being a classic example. I have zero interest in the handbag type promotions.

Have to admit to having used this term in sales recently but assumed it was a sort of seller's warranty that the 45 would play through ok with no real issues if you wanted it to DJ with. Text from site grading guidelines :- VG+ A few more marks or light scuffs than a VG++ record but still sounds fine for listening and/or DJing. No scratches.Light surface wear. A used but far from abused copy. VG Scuffs and light scratches throughout, most can't be felt. Expect some surface wear throughout the record with light surface noise and possibly a few pops in places. Should still serve as a suitable player copy for listening & DJing.

I volunteer for Age UK and was sorting the vinyl donations on Friday when I found 2 decent 45's - Geno Washington - I've Been Hurt By Love and Pink Floyd's - Arnold Layne. Priced the Geno Washington at £14.99 and advertised it on the local NS Facebook page. A wise soul had been in today and bought it. Wouldn't mind the Pink Floyd 45 myself but it's too pricey for me! Makes a change from endless Jim Reeves albums

Mmm very tempted Rob. We'll be in London that night so would love to do it.

Was hoping to make it along prior to the 100 Club. In the end none of Norwich 100 Club regulars were going this month and I didn't fancy the drive on my own. Sounds like I missed another good night. Best Mike

It's good isn't it Pete. Reminds me to investigate your reggae podcasts - Only taken me 40 odd years to discover rock steady - better late than never I suppose Edit - Just had a quick search and can see there's a couple of recent ones Studio 1 and Boss Sounds & Rock Steady which I'll have a listen to later this evening.
