Any Sax Players Here - Help Needed
I'll have a word with my mate who owns a shop on Denmark Street and see if he knows where to get some. When he was running his shop in the Angel, he had a guy in there who did sax overhauls and sales. Should have got my tenor done then although having said that, aint played it in about 15 years! Usernames How Did You Pick Yours?
Yeah have to agree it's a very beautiful song. Marriott & Lane were up there with Lennon & McCartney & Mick & Keef! Here's a few that I never tire of hearing :- I've got mine ( advanced for 65 ) Grow Your Own ( Is there a better Hammond instrumental?) Tin Soldier ( arguably their best moment in the studio) Happy Days Toy Town ( Cockney Genius ! ) Stay cool won't you ! ATB Mike

Jeff Perry - Love Don't Come No Stronger
Thanks for the background Russ. I can see I'm gonna have to do a bit of my own research and track down some more of Jeff's work. There's no mistaking that he's a very talented vocalist and I regret not having seen him at your all nighter. ATB Mike

Jeff Perry - Love Don't Come No Stronger
That's an interesting perspective - it does work best with the video clip and he looks as though he's really into it and believes he's got a hit on his hands - I think he produced the track and may have co written it? It's an unusual production from the point of view that for 1975 it's non disco and sounds earlier. There's definately some cool moves going on in the clip both on stage and on the floor. The Toney Stone is a very sympathetic cover and as has been said, it's OK.

Is It Ever Acceptable To Play A Re- Edit Or Re- Production At A Night/ Nighter
Mace said he'd like to edit out the comb and paper solo so as a bit fun i thought I'd do it for him. Now I've done it, I miss that cool solo I'll be deleting the clip from You Tube in a few days.

Is It Ever Acceptable To Play A Re- Edit Or Re- Production At A Night/ Nighter
https://youtu.be/6inF_pkyqaY Just as an experiment, knocked up a quick edit of Rosco Gordon - As You Walk Away. No longer a funny but still average record. Gonna remix the comb and paper solo - sounds wicked backwards with echo!

- Which Celebrities Have You Seen Dancing At A Soul Night
Didn't somebody from 'Dodgy' turn up at the dome one night, maybe the guitarist, seem to recall Matt J being quite excited, or was it Greg Wonder if it was the drummer Matthew Priest because didn't he co present a Northern Soul show on Radio 2 (late 90's) after Stuart Maconie had some success with his All Singing All Dancing shows? A mate of mine used to do session work for Dodgy and I got to hear a demo of their cover of "I'm On My Way" which as far as I know was never released, but which I remember sounded pretty decent.- "going To The Coast?"
Chiefy, that's a wicked photograph love those fashions ( transition between mod and skin/suedehead ? - but may be corrected on that ) Glad you posted it.- Favourite Soul Appearances/ Shows Ever
I saw Junior Walker at St Ives in 77. I think he had a "pick up" band and no sound check, so it wasn't memorable. Also saw the The 4 Tops in 78 at West Runton Pavillion ( that's near Cromer in Norfolk ) Remember that being a decent gig as they had their own touring band. More recently saw Booker T at the Shepherds Bush Hall which was a blast until some knob shouted out " play what your famous for " - he was touring his new album so was featuring stuff of that ( he did of course play the hits too) He was touring using The Drive By Truckers ( longhairs ) as his backing band ( apart from drums ) and an ex Black Crowes guitarist whose name I forget. Sounded frickin' brilliant! Another decent gig was the Funk Bros at Ronnie Scott's which was shortly after the SITSOM film. A real pleasure to hear Jack Ashford reminiscing about the snakepit and Motown - a real old skool american showman - and of course playing tambourine - is there a better tambourine/vibes player/percussionist ? Oh yeah, and a surprise performance by Edwin Starr's nephew who did a brilliant version of War.- 36 Unsung Shows now available for catch up
Superb docu's - Thanks Mike- Hopkins Bros - Shake Sherri
You don't need an ipod - just click on the link in Chalky's post underneath his name ie My Website Lifeline & Podcasts (or here https://www.soulunderground.co.uk/ ) click on Podcasts at the top of the screen and then scroll down to the relevant podcast. Having just listened to it, it's not the tune you are thinking of as it's funky with the Tighten Up sounding rythmn guitar riff which seems to be popular at the moment - definately not a Trad 6t's NS stomper and I would have thought unlikely to have been played at Wigan.- A Little Film I Made - Lost Vinyl Gems Of The 60's
Enjoyed your film Pete and loved those 2 rockabilly tracks! Mike - The Dells - There Is - 1968 Rare French Colour Video
