  1. You don't like Shapes of Things and Here Comes The Night? I know what you mean though, it's not to all Bowie fans tastes - could be a bit of a muso's album? ( I make no apologies for being a muso however ). Anyways, finished me dinner and had a listen to the Podcast and as you say those Pye and Parlophone singles are superb especially Do Anything You Say which I've never heard before.
  2. Wot no Laughing Gnome? Seriously though, there's loads on there I've not heard before so I'll look forward to listening to this when I've had me dinner. I always liked Pin Ups which as you know is his look back to the Marquee etc. Thanks for posting Mike
  3. Good choice - off Dusty In Memphis - brilliant album IMO
  4. I think this is a decent Xover tune. If you want to hear it click on my You Tube Channel link below.
  5. The tracks I'd forgotten about on that compilation were:- Tony Rivers - God Only Knows The Gods - Baby's Rich Boston Crabs - Gin House The Locomotive - Armageddon The Moles - We Are The Moles Roulettes - Long Cigarette Viv prince - Light Of The Charge Brigade Artwoods - What shall I Do ( think that's Ronnie Wood's first band?) Love Sculpture - the Stumble Rod Stewart - Shake I'll have to refresh my memory of these on You Tube I bidded unsuccessfully on ebay recently for the Terry Reid 45 - think it went for about £25. I went to see Ian McLagan at the Half Moon Putney last summer and was suprised to see Terry Reid on the bill later that month, obviously still gigging.
  6. Hi Pete I always loved that Action single ( Since I Lost My Baby on the flip ). First heard it on a EMI compilation ( My Generation ) which came out about 1977 (Mods & Rockers illustration on the cover ) Had stuff like Yardbirds - Happenings 10 years Time Ago , Tomorrow - My White Bicycle, Terry Reid - Hand Don't Fit The Glove ( that's a great track incidentally which would have fitted into your podcast nicely ), Shotgun Express - Feel The Whole World Turn Around , Downliners Sect and several others which I can't remember now. I found the action single on a Market Stall outside Swiss Cottage library - this was about 15 years ago and the guy wanted £6.00 if I remember right. Didn't have the cash on me at the time and of course when I went back the next week, it had gone. Always regretted not just going to a cashpoint. The Action's unreleased album has got some good stuff on it too. Think they did that about 68 so it's a bit psyche - you've probably heard it. I'll have a listen to the podcast tomorrow. Oh yeah - thanks for sharing. ATB Mike
  7. Very Good - it's going onto my MP3 player - thanks for sharing. ATB Mike
  8. Almost forgot to tune in. Been listening since 8pm and it's been superb. Another DJ I'd recommend is Kev Laws ( another great Norwich DJ ) He does a show alternate Tuesday's on Future Radio. He's always had a great taste in soul music. First hour is northern followed by an hour of modern.
  9. I'm listening online to Adrian Corbin's show on Uckfield Community Radio - highly recommended!
  10. I don't think you can download, as Dave & Malayka's radio shows are on Mixcloud and I couldn't figure out how to download them. Nevermind, I will listen online!

  12. Congratulations. Like you, I missed the Stafford period completely (and quite a bit before and afterwards too ) but have enjoyed reading those pages on your site recently. Thanks Mike

  14. Became his first USA million-selling record and his first number-one USA single staying there for two weeks, and was the first song Gaye recorded with Smokey Robinson as one of the songwriters of the record. The Miracles sang background along with The Andantes, and Miracle Marv Tarplin played lead guitar.

Nice piece on him in this month's Mojo. Son of Ugandan escapees near the end of Idi Amin's regime. Born in North London and brought up in Muswell Hill. Lots more info on his myspace - link below. https://www.myspace.com/mikeksongs
  16. Agree Jason it is a stand-out track - Billy Byrd - Silly Kind Of Love as Boba identified. The flip Lost In The Crowd is a winner too - killer bass line - proto Chic.
  17. Ann Sexton - Come On Home - flip of I Still Love You is superb.
  18. Noticed they are included in a couple of lists on here in the last few days. They're a great little band as I think this clip shows and would be good if they play some UK dates this year.
  19. Don't think this has been posted yet. https://youtu.be/iLEa3Rgx2RI
  20. We're doin' well on soulsource for podcasts - still got all the brilliant Stafford TOTW's on almost permanent rotation on me mp3 player cycling to and from work, then there's Ian Levine's podcast and now these. Looking forward to listening to them over the next few days. Thanks for posting them.
  21. IL's influence on the scene in the early days is well documented, but it seems the influence didn't end there judging by this extract from an interview with Tim Ashibende taken from the Stafford Pages of the Soulful Kinda Music website. J.P. On the subject of distinctly Stafford sounding records, and although I want to cover this in depth later, the who found what side of things, were there any specific factors which contributed to the amount of rarities that got played ? T.A. There were two big record collections which played a big part in what was played at Stafford. The first was Ian Levines collection, which had ended up at Bernie Goldings. It had been well and truly gone through for Traditional Northern by several people, John Manship and I had gone through it at Levines house, where the deal was if you bought so many they were a quid or two each. I got tons as did John. A few years later, as I said, it ended up with Bernie. Of course the style of Northern Soul had changed by then, so people were able to pull yet more stuff, as did Keb and Co . I look forward to every all nighter and although you ain't gonna like everything that's played, has there ever been a bad night at the 100 Club?
