  1. Bought Darrell Banks Our Love/Open The Door pressing off Sean Burke Norwich (Spinney) All Nighter 1976. He did advise me to buy Darrell Banks Is Here album off him instead but there was no persuading me! Still got it!
  2. These last 2 podcasts are just as good as the previous 4. Got loads of new faves from all 6 and they make a great collection of tunes to keep. Also recommended are the Stafford pages on Soulful Kinda Music if like me, you are discovering what you missed.
  3. Are you guesting?
  4. Has anyone mentioned Joe Hicks - Don't It Make You Feel Funky? Sounded absolutely fantastic when Mick Smith played it at the 100 Club on Sunday morning.
  5. There is where it all started for me and my mates. We got into soul music when a class mate bought the Temptations 1990 and played it to us. It's a fantastic album using original members of the Funk Bros James Jamerson, Earl Van Dyke, Jack Ashford, Eddie Willis plus Dennis Coffey, Melvin Ragin. I think this track is one of their best 70's tunes. Hope you like it too! https://youtu.be/8KiB0mjKW3s
  6. Did a google search and nothing interesting came up! Wasn't there a thread on here though about Man of My Word being sold at Salt n Pepper gigs. That would be a nice bit of memorabilia to own although I'd probably sell it coz I'm not really in love with the tune. I wonder whether Brothers of Soul had any merchandising at their recent gig? When James Burton ( Elvis' guitarist ) played down the 100 Club a few years ago he was punting out laser print pics of him and Elvis which he'd sign for you with a personalised message for £5, if I remember correctly. It's a great little earner. Mind you, he probably got a few tips off Colonel Tom Parker, the master merchandiser.
  7. I think the shipping forecast has gone downhill recently but on the other hand farming today is getting better. Is Eddie Grundy still robbing Christmas Trees?
  8. Hi Vince You could make a movie file using windows movie maker or similar software, upload it to you tube and then post the clip on here. If you don't know the process, if you send me the mp3 using PM, I'd be very happy to do it for you. Is this acetate any good? I've got a Hipster Image flexi with All For You and Little Piece of Leather on it which is a tad corny. Maybe the organist bought a Hammond and they improved? ATB Mike
  9. Change Gonna Come takes some beating
  10. This has a pretty decent intro and the rest of it aint too bad either. https://youtu.be/gUulr8w3FPY
  11. Jnr Walker easily my favourite non Jazz saxophonist. I started playing tenor sax as a 19 year old and he was a massive influence. He had the sweetest tone and brilliant technique! The baritone sax player on all those Motown mid 60's stuff was cool. Loads of great solo's - couple of faves :- 4 Tops - Something About You - raucous is the only description for that one. Isley's - I Guess I'll Always Love You And of course Bari Track - Baritone sax genius! Btw Swifty that is a killer King Curtis cover of Green Onions - not heard it before and going onto the MP3 player.
  12. The video footage is nicked from the clip of Richie Havens performing this song accoustically at Woodstock. Great alternative to Spyder Turner's version of the song.
  13. Hi Gogger I like that Edwin track - never heard it before! Here's one from another of the soul scene's major artists recorded after their classic period but still showing that they still had alot to give. Well I think it's a good track https://youtu.be/Vl4J_wEk7hw

    Howard Tate RIP

RIP - His Baby, I Love You oozes gritty class and should get played out more often IMO.
  15. Someone beat me to posting I like The Way I Feel, so here's another of Darrow's Revue 45's
  16. According to DFTMC Baby Hit & Run was unissued until TMG 886 Feb 1974. It was also on the Mfp album May 1974. I always liked their version of It's Growing on that Mfp album. An improvement on the Temps version IMO
  17. As you say, oldies room St Ives almost pitch black apart from the light above the DJ's decks and when the doors opened at back or down the front.
  18. Hi Ritchie Good choice and that was a popular spin in the Main ( newies) Hall. Others played in there which remind me of St Ives include Adams Apples - Don't Take it Out On This World , Bobby Hutton - Lend A hand, Jo Bell Orch - Never Gonna Let You Go, Todays People - SOS Time for Love , Lainie Hill - Time Marches On. Oldies Room - Lee Roye -Tears, Herbie Hunter - Born To Love You, Joe Hicks - Don't It make You Feel Funky. ATB Mike
  19. Yes, a very interesting read - will have to check out the clip when I get home, coz I can't get youtube to play at work. Right time to get on with some work!
  20. Hi Chalky I've really enjoyed listening to these podcasts. Like I said, I never went to Stafford and never realised that alot of newly released stuff was played there. Listening to these podcasts I can understand why it was an exciting period to be on the scene. Expect to be listening to these many times in the coming weeks and thanks for posting them. ATB Mike
  21. Never went to stafford but from what I've heard of stuff broken there, I'm sure these are gonna be good - should cheer up cycling to and from work next week.
  22. Enjoying the show - glad I tuned in. ATB Mike
  23. Hi Jason The Bobby Foster track is another top quality posting from you. A real "indie" sound - no overdubs apart possibly from the vocal, great drums, bass, piano and guitar and some studio "bleeding" right at the beginning if you listen on headphones of something which sounds like " what the f**** going on ? I love big productions but these indie releases are what I personally like the most especially the difficult to dance to middle eight. Another one for the mp3 player.
