  1. Very Good - it's going onto my MP3 player - thanks for sharing. ATB Mike
  2. Almost forgot to tune in. Been listening since 8pm and it's been superb. Another DJ I'd recommend is Kev Laws ( another great Norwich DJ ) He does a show alternate Tuesday's on Future Radio. He's always had a great taste in soul music. First hour is northern followed by an hour of modern.
  3. I'm listening online to Adrian Corbin's show on Uckfield Community Radio - highly recommended!
  4. I don't think you can download, as Dave & Malayka's radio shows are on Mixcloud and I couldn't figure out how to download them. Nevermind, I will listen online!
  5. Congratulations. Like you, I missed the Stafford period completely (and quite a bit before and afterwards too ) but have enjoyed reading those pages on your site recently. Thanks Mike
  6. Became his first USA million-selling record and his first number-one USA single staying there for two weeks, and was the first song Gaye recorded with Smokey Robinson as one of the songwriters of the record. The Miracles sang background along with The Andantes, and Miracle Marv Tarplin played lead guitar.
  7. Nice piece on him in this month's Mojo. Son of Ugandan escapees near the end of Idi Amin's regime. Born in North London and brought up in Muswell Hill. Lots more info on his myspace - link below. https://www.myspace.com/mikeksongs
  8. Agree Jason it is a stand-out track - Billy Byrd - Silly Kind Of Love as Boba identified. The flip Lost In The Crowd is a winner too - killer bass line - proto Chic.
  9. Flip of Just Look What You Have Done
  10. Ann Sexton - Come On Home - flip of I Still Love You is superb.
  11. Noticed they are included in a couple of lists on here in the last few days. They're a great little band as I think this clip shows and would be good if they play some UK dates this year.
  12. Don't think this has been posted yet. https://youtu.be/iLEa3Rgx2RI
  13. We're doin' well on soulsource for podcasts - still got all the brilliant Stafford TOTW's on almost permanent rotation on me mp3 player cycling to and from work, then there's Ian Levine's podcast and now these. Looking forward to listening to them over the next few days. Thanks for posting them.
  14. IL's influence on the scene in the early days is well documented, but it seems the influence didn't end there judging by this extract from an interview with Tim Ashibende taken from the Stafford Pages of the Soulful Kinda Music website. J.P. On the subject of distinctly Stafford sounding records, and although I want to cover this in depth later, the who found what side of things, were there any specific factors which contributed to the amount of rarities that got played ? T.A. There were two big record collections which played a big part in what was played at Stafford. The first was Ian Levines collection, which had ended up at Bernie Goldings. It had been well and truly gone through for Traditional Northern by several people, John Manship and I had gone through it at Levines house, where the deal was if you bought so many they were a quid or two each. I got tons as did John. A few years later, as I said, it ended up with Bernie. Of course the style of Northern Soul had changed by then, so people were able to pull yet more stuff, as did Keb and Co . I look forward to every all nighter and although you ain't gonna like everything that's played, has there ever been a bad night at the 100 Club?
  15. Interesting read - Thanks for sharing.
  16. Used to do a bit of recording in studios when I was younger so was interested in looking at the tape machines and consoles etc. There is a photo of a AMPEX AG-1000 16 Track 2" Master Recorder ( now uploaded below) apparently the very first unit arriving at Mira Sound Studios New York. The Recorder was apparently used, later, in the day on "With this Ring" by the Platters ( brilliant track incidentally) . That would have been 1966? At about the same time the Beatles were still using 4 Track technology over at Abbey Road and recording Revolver. The USA has always been ahead in the technology stakes and it just goes to show what brilliant engineers they had at Abbey Road. Have very much enjoyed surfing the photo's on this site and no I can't recognise any of the unknown groups. The pics of the teen band are very good and the dude smoking the pipe is classic. As you say, one to keep an eye on for new interesting photos. Cheers Mike
  17. Been listening to the last one today and they're all winners! Almost did a spin getting off the tube this morning As Jason says, these podcasts take time and effort to put together, but they're very much appreciated. ATB Mike
  18. Hi Mick This is from the Official Div Share Website FAQ. I've never tried it myself but hope it works for you. How do I add an audio file to my Ebay auction? To add an audio player to your eBay auction, start by logging into your DivShare account and then head over to the upload page (www.divshare.com/upload). Select any audio file in MP3 format from your computer and then click upload. You'll then be provided with a sharing URL and other sharing codes, including an "embed" code. Just copy and paste this code into your eBay auction while adding a new listing using their HTML (or non-standard) form. Please let us know if you have any further questions. Good luck with your auction!
  19. JM guide confirms original has "distributed by Chess" text at bottom of label and deadwax matrix clearly defined.
  20. Yeah - just had a listen to it on You Tube - it's not bad. Presumably as Andre Williams is credited as having co written it, his version came out first?
  21. Strange lyrics on this one - opens with the lines:- Mother nature was good to you baby She gave you everything you need Think this was also used as the backing track for Fabulous Apollos - Determination - Valtone which was on Chalky's Stafford 3 Podcast which I think I may prefer.
  22. Norman Whitfield recorded the song's instrumental track in 1964, two years before he got together with Eddie Holland to have lyrics written for the song. Several artists recorded "Beauty Is Only Skin Deep" before the Temptations, including Jimmy Ruffin, and The Miracles , who included it on their 1966 "Away We A Go- Go" album. After Whitfield's previous production for the Temptations, "Ain't Too Proud to Beg", hit number-one on the Billboard R&B singles chart, he prepared "Beauty Is Only Skin Deep" as a showcase for Ruffin and the Temptations.
  23. Girl (Why You Wanna Make Me Blue ) my favourite tune of theirs played on the Northern scene and I know I'm Losing You is such a great track.
  24. Pretty good. Here's their myspace https://www.myspace.com/theheavy
