Here's a better clip taken from the link from the recent Ebay auction. The stereo recordng, wah wah guitar and remarkable drumming ( hi hat/snare fills - sounds a bit like Dennis Davis - Bowie's drummer) date this to 72/73 for me.

This is pretty cool - Upright still in use. Seen this track on a Downtown Soulville playlist recently.

I like the term " Bull Fiddle " for upright bass - sounds a bit rockabilly but that's no bad thing . Clyde McPhatter - Lover Please is a good " Birth of Soul " track with Bull Fiddle on it. Jackie Wilson/ Linda Hopkins - I Found Love sounds like it could be Upright Bass too.

This track is on one of Chalky's Stafford Pocasts titled " Dave Withers tracks 1982 " and also includes several others from the This Is Northern Soul CD . Do you know if Dave Withers got access to a motown master tape/s or acquired studio acetates? Would be interesting knowing the story behind these unissued motown tracks.

Alex, on here, who posted a thread about his band The All Nighters', quest to find venues in Bath /Bristol, linked their sax player Roger's website Ready Steady Gone which I would thoroughly recommend to anyone interested in 60's and & 70's ephemera. Roger is an excellent sax player and was evidently heavily involved in the burgeoning music scene in Newcastle in the mid 60's. The website includes many mp3's of some interesting obscure recordings of North East bands from the 60's and early 70's, great photo's from the period and info about the clubs which were popular in the area at the time. Never seen that before. Is it legit because their website ie Right Track Records spells Ady's name incorrectly?

I think the story is that Ady had access to the Stax vault and would have been able to listen to the 2" multitack or the 1/2 " master tape. After selecting that tune worthy of being used by Kent, no doubt some 7" dubs were pressed for demonstration but whether "Ady's master " is the right term I dunno. It is a fantastic recording though and I aways dance to it when played out.

I recently heard Trickster play Dooley Silverspoon - Game Players on Banbury Internet Radio and that tune has something about it which I completely missed when it was played on release. It's definately one of those which has improved with age. Bought a copy recently for 99p and was pleased to find that the flip is good too.

I would echo that the benevolent aim of your venture deserves support and if you are able to attract DJ's who know what's what, that's a plus too. Good luck wih it. Mike
