  1. Not many Motown podcasts on here so I thought I'd mix a few tracks together from my collection of scratchy 45's- Hope you like it. 1 MARTHA & THE VANDELLAS - COME & GET THESE MEMORIES 2 JIMMY RUFFIN - SINCE I LOST YOU 3 TAMMI TERRELL - I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU LOVE ME 4 ISLEY BROTHERS - WHISPERS 5 TEMPTATIONS - LITTLE MISS SWEETNESS 6 EDWIN STARR - IF MY HEART COULD TELL THE STORY 7 MONITORS - SINCE I LOST YOU GIRL 8 FANTASTIC FOUR - PIN POINT IT DOWN 9 DAVID RUFFIN - EACH DAY IS A LIFETIME 10 FOUR TOPS - REMEMBER WHEN 11. BRENDA HOLLOWAY - YOU'VE MADE ME SO VERY HAPPY 12. MARVIN GAYE - GOD IS LOVE 13. MAJOR LANCE - I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE LOSING YOU.
  2. Interesting writing and production credits on that - I really like it!
  3. The Violinaires - I Don't Know I bought this recently on the strength of their Gospel Classics connection. I personally really like it but would be interested to know others thoughts. Maybe you have to go to church on Sundays to get into it ? Got the following off the net:- Members of "The Gospel Classics" were previous members of the Violinaires. The members were Melvin Reed, Leo Coney, Wilson DeShields, James Malone, Cleofas Tilmon, Elceanor Debose, and Charles Williams Five of them were previous Violinaires.
  4. Apologies if this a duplicate - Ann Sexton - Come Back Home - flip to I Still Love You. I think this is a fantastic recording - great vocals, keys, horns, guitar its got everything!
  5. I used to collect motown when I was going to all nighters in the 70's - wished I'd bought more of it at the time as you used to see R&W demo's aplenty for under £10. Was happy to come back from Wigan and a Cleethorpes all dayer Aug bank holiday 77 with Jnr Walker EP, I know (I'm Losing You) -Temps and Chairmen Of the Board - Give Me Just A Little More Time - Still have them.
  6. Is it Frank Hutson - Old Man Me? Had a listen to Archie Hodge - I Really Want to See you Girl and there's a similarity to the intro.
  7. Hi Gogger Agree it's a great thread - as has been said its been educational and we've heard so many brill records that we probably wouldn't otherwise have done. Didn't this all start off though as your " recommended record of the day from your collecton"? Idea was to post a label scan but I think I may started adding a you tube clip to the thread - Major Lance performing Since I Lost My Baby's Love on Soul Train. You can blame me for slowing down our search engines or does that only happen on my knackered old laptop? ATB Mike
  8. Apologies if this has been posted before:- Tammi Terrell - I Can't Believe You Love Me. The song writing and production on this is stunning I think. Did Johnny Bristol and Harvey Fuqua write a bad track when they were at Motown?
  9. Terrific podcast again Chalky - Thanks to you and John.

  12. Jimmy Ruffin - Since I Lost You & I Want Your Love. Sounds like it was recorded at same time as He Who Picks A Rose - couldn't have been could it?
  13. I love this record - that's another off the list to identify.
  14. Not done that at 6am bl**dy hard to navigate narrow boats I found!
  15. Superb stuff Rob. Sorry didn't make it down to 99p soul on Saturday but Denise and I went out with Andy Hackett and Susan the night before and ... well let just say I was feeling a little under the weather the next day!
  16. Wow! Just spent a very enjoyable several hours listening to those live tapes. Next best thing to actually being there. Thanks for posting them Chalky - they're superb! Mike

  18. I'd never heard of him before, just came across it on the Better Producer website. There's a clip of a short interview on there where he says he's played on 4000 recordings mostly done at he Brill Bldg. Hearing his hi hat fills I wondered if it's him on the United Sounds record? He's well cool in the clip above - " always rockin always grooving " I know how he feels! absolutely fantastic drummer!
  19. This is an absolutely charming vid by a great drummer and if your feet aint tapping by the end, you're beyond help LOL! https://youtu.be/WGXGpa458Ig
