Great song. Strangely no reference to it in DFTMC. According to the blurb I’ve read on a couple of sales sites it’s previously unreleased on vinyl. Seems to have been unearthed for the Motown Unreleased series which I remember trawling through on Spotify a few years back but this track must have eluded me or didn’t resonate then. Definitely one for the collection.

Ady posted on Facebook that due to a mix up, the anniversary singles were left at Ace’s warehouse/ offices ( he thought they were in some boxes he took home a few months ago ) and therefore he was unable to take them on Saturday and so will post them or attendees can collect them at the next 6ts events. Got the impression therefore that the tracks on the single are not widely known. I think that’s correct. Apologies if not.

'Cutting up the dancefloor: the glorious, dubious...'
Autumnstoned replied to Mike's topic in All About the SOUL
I’m not sure Mike. I read it that songwriters and publishers, who make their money collecting and distributing the royalties ( modern publishing contracts usually give the songwriter/s at least 50 % ) receive royalties from these recreations. The performers or artists as opposed to songwriters need to ensure they get a songwriting credit if they were involved in the composition of the song and their name on the publishing contract. Otherwise they don’t get paid except a session fee and for live performances. That’s my understanding but I’m not a music biz expert although I did have a publishing contract with Heath Levy music ( long expired I imagine ) and am a joint composition copyright owner of a number of songs nobody has any interest in hearing let alone recreating -

The article confirms that the songwriter and publisher ie the “composition copyright owner”, have to give permission for any interpolating and also receive royalties from any use of their music. Who really cares if the owner of the “master recording copyright” ( ie the record label - often a corporate with no involvement in the creative process) don’t benefit. They had their cut from the original recording and can continue to receive income from reissues if there’s a market for them. It’s just a point of view. -
I’d guess he was born in St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington. It’s where my granddaughter was born. At the time my daughter and son in law were living in Queens Park, NW6 and St Mary’s was the nearest maternity hospital. Just musings really and I could be completely wide of the mark . The Action were a good band. I first came across them when I heard “Baby You’ve Got It” on the My Generation compilation which EMI put out in about 1976. I always kick myself for not buying that 45 when I found it on a market stall - £7.00 I seem to remember. This was about 25 yrs ago. I didn’t have the cash on me at the time and didn’t bother finding a cash machine as I had my two Kids with me. Of course, when I went back the next week, the seller’s stall had gone!

Dusty Sings Soul - Dusty Springfield - New Ace Records CD
Autumnstoned commented on Mike's article in News Archives
Yep, not bad. Mark Wirtz of Teenage Opera and A Touch Of Velvet fame did a version too. I first came across it on a Dusty A’s & B’s CD. The clip is my 45 from my YouTube channel. -

Pity didn’t include “ Don’t Say It Baby “ an overlooked B side to “Your Hurting Kinda Love “ from Feb 1965. -

Nice article. Thanks for sharing. I really like the Altons 45 - When You Go. -
Link is missing. I think this is it:- https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/best-motown-songs-1139063/ Arguably they got No1 right but as you say many omissions. However, was pleasantly surprised to see Willie Hutch - I Choose You at 49? A good inclusion.

Thanks for replies. Nice to identify it and know that such wildlife is in the area.

Unfortunately not great photos, but spotted what I believe is a sparrow hawk yesterday on Putney Common at about 3.30pm. I was surprised last week to see a large seal swimming in the Thames between Putney Bridge and Craven Cottage ( too far away to get a decent picture on my camera phone unfortunately) and last summer I saw a kingfisher nearby hunting on Beverley Brook which joins the Thames in Putney.

club cards for the attic hounslow and pontiac club putney the attic didnt have much ambiance and was small .the pontiac was better but the owner didnt pay This is in reply to Sceneman - sorry screwed up the quote facility! Interesting as I now live on Upper Richmond Road. Zeta House is a landmark building in Putney close to the overground and East Putney tube so a great location for a music venue. There’s more info about the club here :- https://garagehangover.com/pontiac-club-zeeta-house-putney-london/
