  1. Nora Dean - Barbwire Bob & Marcia - Young Gifted & Black Pioneers - Long Shot Kick the Bucket Desmond Dekker - Israelites Beatles - Ob La Di Ob La Da
  2. Hi Wiggy I'll give it a listen tomorrow eve. Incidentally I liked the Richard Searling radio show you posted recently.
  3. Hi Richard Here's 5 good un's I think:- 5 Stairsteps - Stay Close To Me Impressions - You've Been Cheating Platters - With This Ring Solomon Burke - Keep Looking Major Lance - Monkey Time Right, off to the 100 Club!
  4. I wasn't aware of that version - a great re-working I think - quintessentially 60's.
  5. Another good un - Anyway of downloading it?
  6. Apparently taken from a 70's Detroit public access TV appearance.
  7. Seems to be some more Soul Train clips posted on you tube recently. This is from 1972 not long after his split from the Temptations and I think its pretty catchy. Interesting shirt and turn ups on those flares too!
  8. Politicians - Free Your Mind https://youtu.be/lEFvX9gcezM
  9. I bought this a couple of days ago - ebay link below. It's also on a different label, Hour Glass. Do you know if the Spectrum 114 release is the first one? Hope I've not bought the wrong one! Do It is a fine flip written by J Ashford & L Chandler (say no more) which reminds me of Stanley Mitchell - Get It Baby but at a fraction of the price! https://www.ebay.co.u...9#ht_332wt_1156
  10. I think you can improve it. Remix it and take the vocals off.
  11. Hi Thanks for the info. I remember Pete Smith was trying to identify a vocal version of the flip The Right Kind. Wonder if he ever had any success?
  12. The Jaybirds has different label designs. I assume that the one with arranger/producer details is an earlier issue? The one on the left , same as in the auction, is mine which I bought on ebay a couple of years ago for about £30.
  13. Here's an earlier thread which includes a link to Pat Brady's auction and a short soundclip.
  14. Been lots to enjoy - highlights for me are Va Va Voom NYE Small Fakers playing Ogdens Nut Gone Flake side 2 live - brilliant! Darrow Fletcher at the 100 Club - The 100 Club all nighters - missed the last one because of a holiday but most memorable guest spots this year I think from Steve Cato, Ian levine, Frank Webster, Dave Rimmer, Andy Dyson, Adrian Corbin - great Anniversary single - cheers Ady !. New places I've been to this year are Soul Syndicate ( Marco and Dave Hill's night in Kensall Rise ) and 99p Soul in Farringdon - both top drawer.- Oh and not forgetting Filthy Soul's August Bank Holiday all dayer. Looking forward to their all dayer next week. Been up to Norwich a few times to the Backstreet Soul Club - Their Easter Bank Holiday all dayer is quality. Also a great Mod night up there at All Our yesterdays. Did my first podcast on here which you've all probably heard by now Really enjoyed Chalky's Stafford podcasts and the SS Record Club threads on here this year. I'm ending the year as it started at Va Va Voom - Arthur Brown live - so should be good . All in all a really enjoyable year. Mike
  15. I like this although not overly keen on the falsetto. Some fine bass and guitar work going on. A 9 out of 10 job.
  16. Two great Earl Van Dyke instrumentals missing from Pete's list - 6x6 and All For You. Booker T still making great instrumentals.
  17. Hi Your acquisition and day in the studio is very interesting and the film you made would be of significant interest to many on here and wider I suspect. Any plans on sharing some edited highlights? All the best Mike
  18. Oh right - I see what you mean. £67 for a carver is stronging it!
  19. Valley Of Souls was at the same time punting a legit Cadet DJ copy of Gospel Classics More Love which went for £80.
  20. What about this? - described as 2nd press I think. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CELEST-HARDIE-YOURE-GONE-CLASSIC-REYNOLDS-/230882229034?pt=UK_Records&hash=item35c1a73b2a#ht_317wt_933
  21. Turntableterra on here says in the thread linked below that he has the reference copy master tape which he has taken into a studio and had "dissected". Dunno what he means by dissected or whether he's talking about the 2" multitrack. If it's the multitrack, then of course it contains the various "takes" when the song was originally recorded and presumably can be remixed to produce different versions. I was going to ask him for more details but didn't get around to it. My understanding is that a 1/2" master tape, as opposed to the multitrack, is simply the final mixed version ( could be stereo or mono depending on equipment used ) but doesn't contain each separate vocal, guitar, bass etc track which potentially could be remixed.
  22. Don't think there is saturation in London. Couple of nights on at the weekend, one in the West End the other N London- weekend after that 2 established nights on (Greenwich and Farringdon) plus the 100 Club all nighter, weekend after that an interesting night with what looks like a good live band Arthur Gun, following w/e the all dayer in Kentish Town then its the 100 Club xmas party, Filthy Soul all dayer and Va Va Voom NYE.
  23. Mick Smith played it in his first set at the last 100 Club anniversary. Not many in then but i was very pleased to hear it and it sounded great. Agree with Pep, underrated.
