  1. Never heard the instro of that before! Sounds great!
  2. I think this is OK - like the A side Hold Back The Night too!
  3. That's a fantastic track Paul. I've got it on a budget CD " Booker T plays the Hip Hits " or something. Cropper rings out 4 identical Minor 7 chords at the end of the verses which raise the hairs on the back of your neck. The long version of Time Is Tight with the slow intro does the same for me. I saw Steve Cropper live at Dingwalls a few years back and was slightly disappointed he wasn't using a Telecaster responsible for those great guitar tones you mentioned. Still a great gig though. Edit Just checked - those chords are Ed min 9ths
  4. Very sad that he has polio. You aint a guitarist if you can't " chank " so his ongoing influence is secured. This sounds like a fantastic event - just sorry I can't get to it.
  5. A friend of mine DJ's with 78's so I always check any I find when hunting records. Usually just landfill but did find these last week and paid £2.50 for the pair. The Little Richard is cracked from the edge to the label but still plays relatively loud and clear!
  6. Decent review here of the Brighton gig. Love the idea of the longhairs wheeling out a Theramin for Confusion - great track off the album which I would love to hear live. https://brightonsource.co.uk/reviews/charles-bradley-review/
  7. This is a great version. Would love to read more comments about the uk gigs from those who went or are going.
  8. Fantastic resource. Thanks for the introduction to so many wonderful records i missed hearing at the time and which have become firm favourites now.
  9. Has its moments but maybe too " novelty " ?. I really like his version of " Your Love Is Amazing " .
  10. A dance lesson we could probably all benefit from:-
  11. Always a pleasure to hear Rhonda Davis and Robert Tanner when out and about.
  12. One from my collection which I love.

Singing " The Backstreet is where he belongs " Great pic of Mark - genuine geezer!
  14. Hi Rob Really miss nights like yours at 99p Soul since we moved in July. London visits restricted to the 100 Club for now so will hopefully see you there although we'll miss the Anni as we're visiting our daughter in Seoul. Looking forward to listening to the podcast. Will give it a listen whilst I'm out here. All the best Mike
  15. Slightly ironic that I'm posting this from Seoul, but on the BA flight over Richie Havens album Alarm Clock was on the video thingy which was a pleasure listening to and got me thinking that he would make a superb nomination to this thread.
  16. Most of the legends I would have chosen have been listed already Bobby Womack, Aretha et al. But what about Charles Bradley as a great male vocalist? His Victim of Love album shows what a great vocalist he is. Also Little Milton is overlooked.
  17. A sentiment worth keeping in mind The Dells - Make Sure ( You Have Someone Who Loves You ) When your youth and beauty is finally gone When you look back and see that time marches on Make Sure ( You Have Someone Who Loves You )
  18. Have done some swaps with a member on here and got some nice Motown for my collection.
  19. Terry Callier mmm. When Mark lets us double deck, we're gonna have to toss to decide who plays that gem first
  20. Maybe Mike Raven did the sleeve notes? They are similar to STML 1143 Motown Memories Vol 3 another album I don't think I've seen before. Probably compiled by Dave Godin? 72157607764646136https://www.flickr.com/photos/cookephotography/4551638397/lightbox/
  21. Missed your first set Billy but enjoyed a lot what you played later on. Several I didn't know but as I mentioned, I've been listening to 'em on Youtube and as said above by someone else, nice records. See you on Saturday for the 100 Club. Best Mike
  22. I like Billy Stewart's version but this is cool - Summertime
  23. Dunno but enjoyed watching that - thanks for the tip.
