  1. Edited - Apologies got the wrong gist of what you were saying. Suppose it is an expression of a love a music - Should be anyway.
  2. My advice would be to make David Ruffin's - Each Day Is A Lifetime one of your first acquisitions. One of the few cuts from his unreleased album to make it to vinyl, its a fantastic production and a total winner musically and lyrically ( It's on my You Tube Channel - link below ) . When I was collecting a lot of Motown recently, I trawled Spotify which lists every USA 45 by year of release. Came across some great stuff that way e.g. Heartless - Vandellas - Eddie kendricks - If You Let Me/ Can't Help What I Am - Arthur Adams - Cant Wait To See Your Face. Maybe start by getting a list of releases by artist and listen on You Tube/ Spotify. Don't Forget The Motor City ( DFTMC ) has complete listings. Motown Junkies is a another good site as a resource ( info about lesser known subsidiary labels like Chisa ). Also consider swapping some northern you no longer want. I got some good titles that way on here. Happy hunting. Best Mike
  3. Agree with Pete. Until I downloaded these podcasts I'd never heard Ree Flores, Eric Mercury, Jesse Henderson … the list goes on. So cheers Chalky and seasons greetings to you. Best Mike
  4. Was booted. Manship guide 5th edition states that the originals are on styrene ( styrene is brittle and if you try to bend it it will snap ) If made from vinyl ( the bootleg is apparently made of very flexible vinyl ) it is a counterfeit. Guide price is £150 for original demo and plum coloured label issue - £100 for original blue label issue.
  5. Magical and charming appearance from one of soul music's maestros. https://youtu.be/66g9NdICWmc https://youtu.be/PfbeSCNatb8

  6. Was new to me until I heard it on a Mastercuts compilation late 80's I think. I posted the clip mainly because its the first one on Youtube with decent audio. Previous lowish quality upload was apparently from the son or daughter of someone in the group from his personal collection. Darktown Strutters ( 1975) is uploaded onto YouTube so may give it a watch. Opening scenes look interesting!
  7. That's not bad. Brass fills reminiscent of The Snake to these ears ( not good ) and could do with some backing vocals. An 8 out of 10 job.
  8. Tony Hester composed brilliant winner!
  9. Pure David Brent - Thanks
  10. Agree Bonzo is the best followed closely by Dennis Davis ( Bowie's sticksman )
  11. Couple of Major Lance tunes on the first NS tape I had given to me in 1974- My Girl off the live album and Follow The Leader. I love this clip off Soul Train. Wow that suit and hat combination!
  12. Two DJs are thinking of going to the cinema. One asks the other, "Who's the projectionist?"
  13. United Sounds - it's All Over ( Baby ) The drummer on this is fantastic - listen
  14. Hi Soulie 75 I've only just seen this. Preferable when replying to a post, to use the " quote reply " button which generates a prompt. I am trading the records listed and do not want to buy your TMG's. I've got TMG 590 - great flip! Best Mike
  15. Hi Pete I was gonna ask you whether you'd heard of The Anglians. I've got Terry Rawlings British Beat but for some reason it misses the letter 'A' and starts at The Beatstalkers Their cover of A Friend Of Mine is surprisingly very good. The Moving Finger cuts didn't move me on first hearing but the demo of Shake & Fingerpop could probably work on the exotica/psyche scene although it could do with an edit where some of the hammond is lacking . The Higher & Higher demo could also work. I'll sort out an edit and send it to you as I'd value your opinion on it. I am going to speak to Garry again because when I left I'd not heard the Anglians track or the Higher & Higher demo ( I had a bit of a technical problem ripping a copy of his disc with them on although the tracks were there on my hard drive when i got home ) and I want to tell him that I think they're really good. I did tell him that I thought the acetates could be worth a few quid. Best Mike
  16. Did a bit of detective work and contacted Garry Freeman, lead singer of my late Unc's old band The Contours. ( I found out today they were advised to change their name firstly to The Anglians, a name they apparently never liked , to The Moving Finger, which I think is sounds a bit moddish ) Turns out that The Anglians and The Moving Finger had major label contracts, albeit rather short lived, with both CBS and Mercury respectively. The Anglians CBS release includes a very credible cover of A Friend Of Mine written by Joshie Armstead, Nick Ashford & Valerie Simpson. I'd never heard of it but obviously recognised the songwriters although surprisingly Garry was unaware of their songwriting history and significance on the soul scene. He also showed me an acetate/emidisc of The Moving Finger's covers of Higher & Higher and Shake & Fingerpop. Again they are pretty decent attempts at dance music with a soul flavour. When I get more time and Garry's permission, I'll upload them to YouTube. He did say i could upload the James Brown cover so i've posted it here if anyone is interested in listening to it. Garry told me that there wasn't an established soul scene in Norwich in the mid sixties but that he was a fan of Wilson Pickett and Otis Redding and because The Contours gigged at the American bases, their set included a lot of soul and R&B. I've attached a cutting regarding the American Airbase gigs and some scans of the acetates/emidiscs. An interesting afternoon.

Nice sunburst Mosrite guitar dude on the left is playing. Would be good to have some info about these great pics. Best Mike
  18. Blimey, never realised that a CD could be worth any money when you can simply duplicate it electronically. There's one on Ebay at the moment BIN for £175. I'm happy to simply play it on Spotify for nothing and own the vinyl that was released from the shelved album, Each Day Is A Lifetime being the best.
  19. Which CD was it? I sold a copy of the box set on here ( I received 2 from Amazon by mistake ) for £55 inc p&p. I thought I would be selling to someone who didn't have a copy although now realise that might not be the case not that I have a problem with that. Didn't really occur to me that it might become a collectors item and suppose that's why I'd make a useless record dealer. Best Mike
  20. See Ruffsounds post in the earlier Motown 7's thread.
  21. Hi Rob Broadway album? Just giving it a listen now on Spotify. Sounds really good - Some nice vintage touches going on! Cold Game and Do It Do It Disco stand outs.
  22. Never realised until your earlier post that Lucas was a recording artist.
  23. This is " roight noice " as they say in these parts
  24. Hi Rob When I left school in 1976, I worked on a building site at Mildenhall USAF base where I tasted my first Dr Pepper. One of the black servicemen used to chat with me and I must have talked to him about northern soul records because although he wasn't up on music, he did give me a USAF shirt ( looked a bit like a bowling shirt ) which I wanted to wear at all nighters. As you say, lots of pimpmobiles to be seen then cruising around the Norfolk/Suffolk border. Best Mike
  25. I recently moved back to the Mustard City but was unaware of the black history month and this event. As said, it would have been interesting to get a different spin on the 60's soul scene in the area. I know that there were some adventurous souls from the city who attended the Wheel which would have been a mission in those days travelling up the hillbilly highway that is the A47. I remember Lucas gigging around the City in the 80's and 90's and saw him a few times. From what I remember his set consisted of soul standards and that he was a pretty decent performer. I found a link to a Norwich venue which may be of interest. Judging by the pic, Lucas was a " dude " back then. By coincidence, the article in the link refers to one of my late uncle's old bands, The Contours. My Unc' was a session tenor sax player at Anglia TV and The Contours cut a a credible cover of James Brown's - I'll Go Crazy so they were headed in an R&B direction and I remember him saying that they used to gig at the USAF bases. Ah memories - can't get over them! https://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news/remembering_a_norwich_music_venue_that_played_host_to_the_stars_1_487999
