To add further and to prove a current point of how much the price of a tune is subjective i.e. a once cheapish tune can quite easily go for big bucks, Sam Dees - Soul Sister on the LoLo label. Now I'm not too sure why people are paying big money for it, might be because it Sam Dees or maybe because of the label (same as Bobby Hill-To The Bitter End ), or it fills the dance floor on todays current scene ?! Begs to believe but I rest my case, as ever its all down to exposure on the scene, who plays it ( well known DJs ) etc.....on how a record can become big on the scene, sometimes its not just down to refined taste just listening to "Soul Sister" will confirm that I'm afraid

Call it £21 inc P+P, I'm feeling generous as its a Friday, now where did i put it...hmm...oh yes I think....no damn... I remember now, I sold it to a punter in Spain back in 1990ish whilst living over there!! Lesson to be learnt there, keep hold of a record that cost you £5 as you never know, what the future holds for it!?

Totally agree with soulboyrecords. I started buying soul bowl stuff back in late 70s, and later on in the early 80s had a Wade Flemons-Jeannette (Ramsel) mint arrive in a 10 record pack, probably cost all of a fiver. I left the allnighter scene back in the mid 80s but heard that the tune was big in the 90s, and is now going for silly money with people clambering to get a copy of it, put it this way if one is on eBay or elsewhere its does not stay on for sale that long! There are loads of just as good records out there but its all a question of exposure, in Europe they have a more open minded policy with regard to soul music, and certainly know that some of the stuff played over there is not rare at all but all the same very soulful. Any track could potentially make it big, if you were to listen to Ethics - Look At Me Now, Johnny Moore - Lonely Heart In the City or Garnett Mimms- Prove It To Me for the first time you would be none the wiser, They have the special something biggie sound that could go a long way but and they dont cost that much to buy per record....Thats 3 tunes I would play as well as Sterling Magee-Keep On, though its been around years (used to be popular at Yate) but its not a big bucks record! Its all subjective but I reckon as we get older we get a little more narrow minded & stubborn maybe, and if the northern soul scene is to carry on then the cheaper underplayed, semi known and obscure tunes (which there are tons of out there) need to somehow carry the torch onto the next generation, along with the Don Gardners, Cecil Washingtons, Jimmy Macks, Billy Arnells, Larry Clintons etc....thats my pennys worth in any case, but like i say its all subjective.....

I find that what works for me on eBay with accurate grading, is do either of the following 1) Ask for an unadulterated MP3 recording of the record if in doubt, a good pair of headphones will sort out the severity of the scuffs and scratches, bearing in mind styrene hiss cannot not be seen on the surface of the record as such, though groove wear can. Styrene is a nightmare at the best of times. A battered vinyl record will sound great whereas styrene can sound rough as hell.... 2) Once I've bought from a reliable and consistent seller several times, I tend to only buy from them as you know their grading system well. Limiteds you but at least you know you gonna be a happy soul! But, yes must admit grading is subjective, and some people out there need either glasses or hearing aids, or both!

Kev, To my knowledge there is no boot of Paul Smith release 1004. The 1001 release was booted if I remember correctly, the giveaway was the red lettering, matrix info and run time is different, easy to spot. The yellow Jackyln copy of 1004 was never booted, or least Ive not seen one in the 35 years of collecting vinyl (and being a closet anorak wearer)! hope this helps foi
