  1. Hello fellow Soul Spinners and alcohol guzzlers, seasons greetings to you and all your family, just downing a couple of bottles of Hobgoblin ale, and a nice Theakstons Old Peculiar. Anyone familiar with the 45 ' Honey Bee ' - Fontella Bass (Bobbin Records), not my usual type of sound, think I picked it up cheap in the States several years ago, but quite a good early 60's R&B tinged mover, actually growing on me. Also playing - Billie Dearborn (Bell) // Bobby Wells Copp a Groove (Beacon) // The Record - Byron Lee (Soul) // Lonely Love - Bettye Swann (Money) // We're in love - Little Bob (La Louisanne) // Cuddled up - Smith Bros (T Neck) // Go for what you know - Superbs (Dore) // Love Line - Forecast (Ariola) // Time won't let me - Outsiders (Capitol) // Galveston - Glen Campbell (Capitol) !!
  2. Don't agree that Frank Wilson is not a good record - it is a bloody good record that has suffered from vast overplays and being greatly commercialised by many reissues and boots, etc
  3. Always liked the Cobblestone ' Trick me, treat me' (covered as the Volcanoes), fast, obscure white garage, but a super sounding Northern stormer, and a true monster sound at lots of venues (and miles better than some of the uptempo obscure rubbish that is being spun at the moment). But what about ' Lets spend some time together ' LA Power and Light (terrible Inst cover of R. Stones), and ' When love grows cold ' (Ron Grainer Orch), another awful casino inst spin.
  4. WHAT ARE YOU SPINNING / DRINKING AT HOME .... 1/ TAKE IT TO THE LIMIT - Norman Connors (Arista) // 2/ I JUST WANT TO LOVE YOU - Stanley Clarke/George Duke (Epic) // 3/ I WANT YOU FOR MYSELF - George Duke (Epic) // 4/ YOU GOT TO CHANGE DIRECTION - Communications (RIGHT-ON) // 5/ BABY DON'T YOU KNOW - Dusty Springfield (Philips) // 6/ WHY IS LOVE SUCH A MIGHTY HARD THING - Flame & lovelights (Jaber) // 7/ DREAMS OF A SHOESHINE BOY - Lightdrivers (Gemini) // 8/ MAKE UP YOUR MIND - Earl Connelly (Maycon) // 9/ ALL WORK AND NO PLAY - Serena Johnson (Big 2) // 10/ DOWN IN THE GHETTO - Major 1V (Venture) // 11/ YOU TOOK MY HEART - James Brown (Polydor) // 12/ LISTEN TO ME - Esquires (Capitol) // 13/ I LIKE TO BE WITH YOU - Los Mozambiques (Happy) // 14/ WHATS MISSING - Alex O'Neal (Tabu) 15/ I CAN'T MAKE IT WITHOUT YOU - Tyrone Davis (Dakar) // 16/ STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU BOY - Marcia Aitken (Gibbs). Top drinks for a very mild Sunday in Nov - YOUNGS DOUBLE CHOCOLATE STOUT / BATEMANS MOCHA BEER / YELLOWTAIL AUSTRALIAN SHIRAZ / THREE BARRELS FRENCH BRANDY
  5. Two great Searling spins you don't hear too much now, HENRY BOATWRIGHT ' I can take or leave your loving ' / REUBEN HOWELL ' Can't stop a man in love '
  6. Literally hundreds of excellent TMG B sides, what about these - 584 MIRACLES - SAVE ME // 633 TEMPTATIONS - I WANT A LOVE I CAN SEE // 602 STEVIE WONDER - HEY LOVE // 621 MARTHA & VANDELLAS - ONE WAY OUT // 552 M. GAYE - WHEN I HAD YOUR LOVE // 525 MARV JOHNSON - I'M NOT A PLAYTHING
  7. I know I've got a nice copy somewhere, what would you like to pay ?
  8. Just seen the news on the BBC, Jimmy has passed away in a Vegas Hospital, aged 78. Another soul legend sadly departs. RIP Jimmy Ruffin.
  9. Really bad news. RIP Tony.
  10. Well blow me over , I'm sure his intentions are completely innocent and without any hidden agenda to make himself a few pounds from the unwary /ignorant record buyers in the UK
  11. Sure this post is not in the right category, don't actually give a Flying F*** content removed by site - post it in the event comments if you want to discuss/give feedback on events
  12. Doubt very much that the artist and/or label owner thinks that by repressing this they will make a fortune, more likely that whoever has got hold of some of these and is selling them on Ebay (without divulging the info regarding the re-issue) is hoping to rake in some quick cash from innocent unsuspecting soulsters !!
  13. I heard last night that there are already pirate ' bootleg' copies of the new Northern Soul movie about .... quite an amusing little irony somewhere there, i think, considering the period in time this movie is about ?!? Comments, please !!
  14. Please pay attention, I didn't mean telling the boot from the original, i meant the alleged numbers / script difference in the run out groove, surely no-one would know this for sure unless they were present at the pressing plant in 1968, or whatever. Too many over confident people think they are the complete experts in everything they comment on, but everyone makes mistakes, and make the wrong call from time to time (Lew Kirton Carolinas boot in Tim Browns guide £200, for instance). Also, the Lou Rawls northern Capitol track only available on a LP, Tim, (I'd had it for several years on a US EP).
  15. How would anyone know this for sure 47 years after it came out ??
  16. Who actually remembers, or gives a flying f**k after all this time, all i know is, all Soul roads lead to Oxford St. London next Sat, for the annual 100 club anniversary Soul stomp / beer and Cider Tsunami (and also large glasses of lovely red wine, hopefully at £6 plus a glass, courtesy of Frank or Richard from Norwich).
  17. Just downing another bottle of Morrisons cider, Wychwood Hobgoblin ale, Spanish Brandy, and Shiraz to follow. some toones spinning - // Hang on - Gene Mcdaniels (Liberty) // In midnight hour - Reba Thomas / Van Lee Cruisers (Vantone) // Happy feeling - Brethren (Teen Town) // Since I lost the one I love - Impressions (ABC Paramount) // Let me love you - Bud Harper (Peacock) // The Hunch - Bobby Peterson Quintet (Top Rank Spain) // Gonna win you back - Contours (Motor City) // Lovin'is really my game - Brainstorm (UK Miracle) // We must be in love - 5 Stairsteps (Curtom) // Man's temptation - Clarence Mann (T&M) // See that girl - Jimmy Wilson (UK Decca) // Can't wait til tomorrow - Johnny Gill (White label 12") // Half stepping - Smooth and CO (UK Move) // Deeper - The Cheques (Heat wave)
  18. Think you're right, this time of year is not great for selling on Ebay, plus there is the significant distraction of the world cup / Wimbledon.
  19. Terrible news, brilliant Soul artist, the last of the Great Soul Men, RIP Bobby, you will be greatly missed.
  20. Yes, on both silver and gold label script, the later (silver) issue is the better one to get, it's got the great dancer flipside ' I can't rest'
  21. Didn't know Frank Wilson and Don Ray were being played in 1969 !
  22. Just seen another crazy sale on Ebay - Donald Lee Richardson on a dodgy White promo Soulville 45, with incorrect release number, £54 !!
  23. COMEDY SALE - Just seen a bootleg BITS 'N PIECES ' Keep on running away ' sell for £72 on the Bay, 22 bids, W H Y ? Obviously loads of Johnny come lately types out there without a clue - get wised up, lots and lots of great lesser known / forgotten / bargain Soul 45's out there on Ebay / Musicstacks, etc....and many on, wait for it, the Original US issue !!!
