  1. indeed we are, and in central locations. but whatever the type of crowd i'd like to think we had an appropriate number of security for the numbers in. would hate to be in a situation where it could be called into question. at the venue in portsmouth we actually don't have any say in the number anyway.
  2. 2 door staff? we usually have at least 6. quite expensive game this !!!
  3. people do sometimes complain without realising the time, effort and expense that goes into all this. and also without realising that there are just some things that you cannot control (like the aforementioned drinks prices). i'm with dave thorley and the comments he made above. i like to see a decent venue, with proper spound system and security, decent flyers and venue decoration .... all takes money.
  4. according to the sleevenotes its on "chateau".
  5. i think people who are into "scenes" often feel that about their own scenes because they know them so well ....... and sometimes find it easy to dismiss other scenes/genres because they don't.
  6. and i'm going to meet boney m soon! want me to get an autograph on your copy of rasputin simon? agree about sat night fever soundtrack. some of my fave disco associated stuff: young hearts run free - candi staton disco inferno - the trammps aint no mountain high enough - inner life saturday - norma jean love sensation - loleatta holloway
  7. i like a bit of disco myself ....... and those 2 are great tracks i think. and plenty of quality stuff about on comps like the jumpin' ones. and i love a bit of salsoul too.
  8. i like the amy winehouse track ... but not surprised if it didn't go down at a ns do. maybe more suited to a more mainstream/varied night.
  9. that is a good point actually, they should be provided. i do the like comfort effect of knowing i am using decent needles and headphones though.
  10. i like the remix clip .... breathes energy into the track, and as someone said, should appeal to those who like modern dance music. and of course i do like the original.
  11. if we use other peoples equipment we usually carry our own headphones, middles and cartridges. it helps to use what you know i think.
  12. used to have these, sony mdrv700. were nice: currently use a budget version mdrv500, courtesy of a mate who used to work at sony:
  13. i think gaps sound a bit amateur hour too ...... its nice to get the record starting when it should. you can also chop of weak/lengthy intros if needs be. useful if wanting to keep the tempo going.
  14. great little advert ............... nice to hear it. i'm waiting for the panic about soul nights being overrun with lambrini drinking young girls!!
  15. i love the requests .... try to accommodate them where possible. tempo (too slow) would be the main thing that would stop me playing something late on.
  16. mine as it was ... with the chopper in the bay window:
  17. not in the uk but ...... i passed by a place called the tamla motown bar (i think) in fuengirola. poked my head in during the day ... toilets were called "temptations" for men and "supremes" for women i think.
  18. make yourself known bearsy .... i'll make sure you get the leg of lamb
  19. a few jokes inbetween tracks would be good ...................... "take my wife ........... please!" followed by the raffle ..... "and the llegg of lammmmb goes to ..... numbahhh wun tooo threeeeeeeeeeee ........ cooom on doreen luv, you're a winnur ..... and thisss is ray pollllllard ... the drifftaaahhhhhhhh!"
  20. save it for the meat raffle
  21. chicken payback ......... nice funky tune. we give it a spin every now and then.
  22. well ..... we had our first night (in a club) since the ban and it didn't seem to affect attendance. july is our quietest month in ryde anyway each year. had about 400 or so in .... and we reckon a solid 30 or so standing outside most of the night smoking (not the same 30 of course). however, lack of smoke in the venue made it look a bit .... er ... clear. might have to get a smoke machine!!
  23. the bees played in our tent at the iow festival ....... had it rocking nicely. the band members have some very diverse influences and at least one of them is into his soul and funk. and the single is excellent i think too.
