This seems to be getting really off track....but the key thing is northern soul is all about passion...and a love for the music. As someone who went to Wigan at the tender age of 15...it is in my blood. But when you get older you don't want to listen to the same old tunes. After all Wigan was great at "breaking" new tunes....till it turned to the pop charts!!!! I love the scene....but need to hear new tunes...that's the whole ethos of northern. I love the scene with passion but hate to see it diluted and distilled into handbag sized chunks for the masses.

With you on that one Tezza!!! Looking forward to seeing you in the rare room at Gloucester....

Hi Russ...I go to lots of across the board local soul nites and more unfront funk edged nights all within an hours drive, But for the right music I am prepared to travel distances. Had a great time at Grumpy Soul which was a 4 hour drive, great tunes and people. Hope to see you when you are home Russ. Are you going to Burnley ???? All the best Sallie

Agree 100%. We should all get together to plan things but it probably won't ever happen...sensible promoters look and see what else is happening before fixing on a date. The problem is there are so many soul nites as well as allniters that have to be factored in it starts to become near on impossible. Where I live I am amazed how many local soul nites clash with each other. Bearing in mind that there's only a few promoters doing soul nites it never ceases to amaze me that even local people can't sort it out.

Which Northern Track You Dislike The Most
SallieJane replied to MrsWoodsrules's topic in All About the SOUL
Apart from Wigans Ovations - Sking in the Snow.....pure pop.....and many others in the 70s of that ilk .... otherwise agree entirely -
Hi Lorraine Just come to this thread really late on....but welcome..it's great to have you onboard...a real SOUL queen. Be great if you came back to the UK for a gig....not sure if you've got any plans....but if you do... as Levi Stubbs would've said "I'll be there".....love ya hun....x

Agree the Downstairs room had a brill atmosphere...the tunes and the people made it. That's what it's all about for me. Think for what we want to do small is better. But need a bit of time out now to see where we go from here. Thanks for your comments and see you somewhere soulful soon. Sallie

Agree Doc, smaller is certainly the way to go with what we are trying to achieve with the Bournemouth Allnighters. We love the rarer and uptempo side of the scene, as eclipsed by Burnley and Bidds, and can't wait for the next ones. Neither one of us is prepared to compromise on the music to fill a venue. There are so many oldies allnighters anyway. But as you know, the problem will always be finding the right place. Down here all the clubs are selling out to the happy hour mentality and concreting over their dance floors for the hen/stag nights and students that invade the town. Maybe we will find somewhere which is "northern soul" friendly, but in the meantime I think we'll just enjoy our niters and see where that leads us. Sallie

Nice to hear...but you must've hidden it somewhere cos I don't recall any being there in 74/75 or 76 !!!
