  1. Callum love those venues and what you guys are trying to achive....what the scene needs....
  2. Been saying that for a while Beasry.....nepotism rules lol....
  3. Not really going anywhere......just want to know if there is a demand for a rare soul allniter !!!
  4. Let's face it....the oldies handbaggers dos don't give a f**k if it OVO. But that's not my scene, probably no one on here either as they can't be bothered to really get involved lol. So as I see it, from the comments posted, bootlegs OK for listening at home....but most definately NOT for playing out...AGREE end of story really....
  5. Thing is tho...most weekenders are out of the main summer season cos the venues get booked up by "normal" paying guests and don't need the extra trade.
  6. Yet they're prepared to travel to allniters ????
  7. So far opinion is pretty divided. But do the hard core niter people that attend the likes of Burnley, Lifeline, TOD, 100 Club etc want a weekender? Unfortunately I never made it to your weekender Chalky so don't know how successful it was, although given Lifeline's rep I'm sure it was pretty impressive to say the least. If there is demand for such an event. What would be the ideal venue? Does it matter? And where should it be located? How far are people willing to travel?
  8. When looking at the calendar of events there seems to be a weekender on at least once a month, sometimes more and that's just the UK. And they seem to attract loads of peeps. But apart from a few the music policy is generally oldies based, maybe a live act thrown in and possibly a modern/alternative room. Whilst there may be different styles of weekenders in Europe (encompassing more progressive music) I would really like to know if there is an appetite for a rare/underplayed/progressive weekender in the UK. I know Manchester is a really successful weekend but that takes place in a number of different venues so is not the traditional "weekender". Perhaps there's just too many weekenders already. Comments and thoughts please
  9. Luckily I've never had that problem....only problem I've had is getting into the packaging. But what really annoys me is when I have to pay import tax on a record. Often that cost less than the tax !!!
  10. At least you got to sell yours....I just lost all mine over the years....wish I had them to sell now tho as could fund a few records....much more important !!!
  11. Good luck to you....wish I'd kept all my old badges !!!
  12. Really pissing me off.....so much slagging off...that's why I've kept quiet....but at the end of the day it's all down to personal choice. For me only one way.....underplayed/rare.....but OVO. The rest is history !!!
  13. Agree Joan...I don't want a scene without oldies either, after all that's what it's based on. One of my fav allniters is Burnley and the core of that is underplayed. Was just really meaning the Top 100 that keep getting trotted out each week, and probably pressings as well lol.
  14. Looks like the scene is in the process of splitting in two. As has been said the vast majority do not care if it's OVO or boots (or even worse cds) as all they want is to go out for a few drinks and have a laugh, probably getting pissed by the end of the night too !!! That's ok, but it's not the true ethos of the scene and never was as far as I am concerned. Let them get on with their thing, we should forget about them anyway. After all who wants a load of pissheads turning up at a niter requestin the snake or frank wilson lol. The key thing to me tho is that those of us who are really serious about the scene and want to hear the rare/underplayed/"new discoveries" need to forget about the old die hards and just do what we do best. Seek out the great venues and suport them so that the scene can continue to florish. While there are some brill nites in Manchester, Leeds and Bradford bringing in younger newer blood (vital to the scene IMHO), we have lost BIDDS and Lifeline had to cancel next weekend because of an overcrowded calendar of events. Many of the younger folk do not travel, perhaps they're put off by the images of the oldies scene and the infighting. Yet if the scene is gonna florish we need to encourage them to travel and get involved. Surely now is the time to just break away from the "old" NS scene and take the whole thing more underground again if we are not too lose more great venues and events along the way. At the end of the day it's down to us to support the rare events....otherwise we'll be moaning when they're gone !!! Just a few thoughts, Sallie
  15. Glad to see you killed that one Tezza lol
  16. Each to their own....for me if it's an allniter...it's uptempo rareties....keeps me going all nite...!!! But hey, as long as it's OVO...fine by me !!!
  17. You're obviously going to the wrong allniters then !!!
  18. Now look what you started Russ !!! Nah I'm on your side...you know my thoughts on the matter.....just keep on keeping on !!!
  19. So many weekenders and some niters too seem to have modern rooms tacked on to oldies main rooms. Is this because a lot of those that like oldies and "discovered" modern in the late 70s/80s haven't been able to progress any futher? Just a thought.
  20. Depressing reading...but all too true !!! So sad when the true ethos of the scene gets dilluted to the top 100, and many reissues and bootlegs at that, with people rushing to hand over their cash to relive their nostalgia trips. Sure there's a place for oldies nights (but ONLY underplayed for me please). With regards to allniters, personally I only want to hear rare and underplayed, and certainly nothing from the NS soul charts even if it is OVO. But seems my opinions are in the minority today. Perhaps I should just get out my circular skirt and ankle socks and start twirling round the dance floor or better still take up knitting !!!
  21. The key thing is to get all the promoters together to discuss the way forward. With so many local events happening it's important that there is some sort of co-operation, otherwise the scene will die, after all there are just not enough local soulies to attend every soul nite. I'm not in the business of soul nites so will not be treading on anyone's toes. We just need to all make sure that the scene continues to flourish on the south coast.
  22. Luckily I never got anything nicked at Wigan....but know of lots that did....Beachcomber was really bad too.
  23. Says a lot really Tim....some bloody ace tunes played....on a par with some of the best rare and underplayed niters in the country...maybe people just don't like travelling south !!! But perhaps that's another topic for debate on here....
  24. Good luck Alfie....think you've got your work cut out but wish you every sucess. Be amazing if we could get everyone together and in agreement. Only good for the scene if it's not going to implode on itself. Will await further news. All the best. Sallie
