  1. I've picked up virtually every Womack LP I own at bootfairs in the last 10 years and the two Poet's are two of the easiest & best to find. Girf
  2. H Love is a guy in Miami (I think) who is offering records around - not soul stuff or 45s as far as I know - I got offered 2000 rap 12s, very good stuff so I was tempted but soon became suspicious when he wanted to do the deal super quick and he didn't want to let me to come and view the records first - just send money - yeah right Girf
  3. Price wise I would agree but I think the UK copies are similar price wise to the Turbo copies - especially on a demo which i'm sure i've seen for even more recently?? Girf
  4. Thanks Trevski - sounds like one that needs to sink in a bit. The vocals are a bit 'leftfield' maybe. I need to hear it loud & pissed I was curious after seeing it mentioned in Manship's description of Ella Woods on his auction. Girf
  5. Prior to the copies that turned up recently it was more than that. Its like anything, once those copies disappear into collections it will probably rise in value again......maybe I would have said between £200-300 at the moment. Girf
  6. Curious to hear this - can anyone furnish me with an MP3 of this ??? Cheers Girth
  7. A copy of Mary Munday just sold on ebay for £125 i think - which is about right. Jimmy about £40-50 ?? Cheers Girth
  8. Dead right - one with strings and one without - the one without is less common and very sought after with the London two steppers. Girf
  9. With the Constellations I was trying to think of a record that is truly universally accepted. Its played at nighters, modern gigs, Caister, rare groove / funk gigs - all over the world and enjoyed by a huge cross section of people. Not many records are appreciated like that. Girf
  10. Coming from a modern perspective I would say The Constellations - Don't Know About You is very widely liked - and possibly Darrell Banks - Open The Door. Leaving aside the fact you may be bored of it !! One of the first northern I bought. Girf
  11. Yep same song and backing as Dee Dee - just a different vocal. I think the Dee Dee version is a stronger vocal but Debra Anderson is no less danceable...obviously Girf
  12. Yes exactly like that Billy
  13. Yep thats a long time fave, the intro throws you a bit though but once it gets going...... The one i'm hunting is def more home listening than playing out. Nice !! Girf
  14. Off the top of my head - from the 70s Carl Hall - Columbia issue Bobby Reed - Bell Virgil Henry - Tamla issue Satin - Shell Debbie Taylor - Arista Jeff Perry - both on Arista Beloyd - 20th Century issue Sam Dees - Fragile - Atlantic issue Innersection - Group 5 Girf
  15. I bought my Timeless Legend cheap (and blind, on a recommendation) - £12 I think - early 90s from Blacknight and quite a few people I know all quote that source as where their's came from. Who else had copies as a new release ??? Girf
  16. Spun 'Its All Over Now' from the same LP at S.O.U.L. (Gijon, Spain) & Soul Essence recently to great dancefloor reaction - sounds bloody great. And yep 'Girl' must have one of the best and most deceptive intro's ever. Girf
  17. I don't think so - that would be when Mike Charlton 'gave away' the copies he had. Most of the Southport DJs at the time got one. Girf
  18. Well swap LP for 'CD' and he'd be spot on - the first 10 volumes on CD ARE rare and DO sell for small fortunes on Ebay and the like. Worth knowing when you're scouring the bootfairs. A couple of finds like that pay for a handful of nice 45s. Girf
  19. Ah yes - I have an equivalent dance of my own which consists of leaning on the bar..... yes alright.....holding on to the bar......whilst thumbing my side in a kind of Mark King / Marcus Miller type action. Interspersed (when I feel brave enough to let go of the bar) with little two handed piano licks ala Lonnie Liston Smith
  20. Cheers John - whats a finger pointy dance ?? And Spunk's for real written by Rich Tufo - Chicago legend. Girf
  21. Not sure now - maybe £25ish Girf
  22. I've always liked it - and I think its better than the Donald Albert cover. Girf
  23. Hi Brett - its The Tom-Emmanuel And Ron Experience - Why (The Knower) / When You Lose Your Groove - Golden Three 45 (R-7000) - I've had it for years for the flip which is a nice rare groove / crossover tune. Cheers Girth
  24. It was Mike Charlton who had the initial copies but I think it was less than 25 - could be wrong. Thing was he literally gave them away to DJs to create the demand before bringing in the quantity. Thing was George Tobin, the producer got wind that everyone & their dog wanted a copy and copies had already changed hands for tidy sums so when Mike when back for more he wanted way too much for em. So Mike came away empty handed and somewhere sat a large quantity of em. Thats what I have always known the story to be. So while its always been regarded as a rare record there has always been quantity somewhere and a possibility they would be found. Maybe this is them ?? Girf
