  1. Never booted, by the time this came out the coloured logo was more common, but some pressing plants used the old design for longer than others, I think...
  2. Well, Pete DID say he wore glasses...
  3. That's funny, I was over 21 and no-one avoided me...to the best of my knowledge...:-) :-) - it's been said before, and I'll say it again, for the majority, age didn't matter at all, as long as you were into it (and weren't with the two in post #7!)
  4. Was great to see you son, hope you had a safe journey back. Glad to see you managed to resist dropping the Mello Souls until late in your set - hope it had the desired effect! :-)
  5. Just came across this, a quick flip through reveals Tony Clarke singing "The Entertainer" and Joe Matthews performing "She's my beauty queen"...and I'm sure they announced the backing singers as the Hy-Tones... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-XepQFtOQg
  6. My favourite is still on the publishers 12" white label of Drizabone "Real love" (before a label deal was done) - the runout reads "Eat more cheese"...
  7. Many of the guys who cut the records were experts in their field and left their logo or whatever...in this country "A Porky's Prime cut" was common to see in the 70's, while in the US Herb Powers (or variations) is common on a lot of 12"s... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Peckham
  8. New year, same old suckers...
  9. Steve Smith brought a pile of flesh coloured ones back from the States in the late 70's - he still swears I owe him for it...memory like a sieve! :-)
  10. Believe you me, I'd rather not be that person if they're ever caught! Feel for you Melv old mate!
  11. Well, I may have cloth ears but I can't hear much of a difference to the Invictus House Band... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvSnri0tcCk
  12. After a quick listen, isn't the Invictus House Band - Eeny Meeny the same cut that appeared as "Get your house in order" on the flip of "Sitting on a timebomb"?
  13. Well, it did get some airplay on at least one offshore station... https://www.radiolondon.co.uk/rl/scrap60/fabforty/may67/may6703/fab210567.html
  14. Shhhhh...I was hoping to pick one up cheaply! Too late again...:-)
  15. Deon Jackson will always take me back to feeling fragile, in a caravan, Sunday lunchtime, Fleetwood Weekender 2001...:-). Another vote from me for P. P. Arnold as a Torch standout, and from Wigan, well, just remember the clapping on the break in the Jewels "We got togetherness" - thunderous! Yate - L Allen, Joann Courcy and loads more, Stafford - Detroit Strings "In the pocket"...
  16. Well remembered Paul...the UK promo 12" (AMPMDJ36) had the album version on the B-side, along with the accapella of "Where do u want...", and the a side had remix and album versions of that. I was getting all the A & M stuff mailed at the time and never saw any remixes of "Blowing my mind", although it was a big tune for me in 1995 I don't think it was big enough in its own right to warrant remixes...
  17. My thought process went...60's California...Beach Boys...Good Vibrations...the Theremin...cheaper than a Moog! Possible? https://www.ehow.co.uk/video_6381037_playing-songs-theremin.html
  18. Fantastic article Dave! Copies of "Sure didn't take long" were around aplenty in the early 70's, mine cost the mighty sum of 10 pence in that big haul that Tesco's had on sale at the time!
  19. ...and the Joker boot of Peanut Duck was credited to Gilly and Jilly, published by Butch Music! :-)
  20. You'll ruin the chances of the guy who's trying to flog a UK Gospel Classics for 500 quid buy now on evilbay! I'd thought he must have mis-typed but it was still there last night!!
  21. Just one of those "you had to be there moments".. heard it first at St. Ives, when I'd stopped buzzing I dashed up to the stage and shouted at the DJ (John Vincent I think) "What was that?"...he shouted back "The Sparkles - New Jersey Pike"!...I still argue with Flynny (who's far too young for that ) as he swears it was covered up as "The Sprinkles"!
  22. Old spin for me that I keep meaning to play again...as has been said, PLAY IT LOUD! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RqoRN7GGXA
  23. Was it Paula Roussell or similar...I'm sure he did a femme version of "Blowing my mind to pieces", credited to her...
  24. Oh, right, thanks Pete :-)...just listening to the first few bars reminded me of some of the Popcorn Wylie instrumentals though...
  25. Meanwhile, back to the music...it seems a little...ummm...pedestrian to start with, but hits the groove midway through. So was this an earlier run-through, and possibly the only take found on the Groovesville tapes?
