  1. No, can't place it at the moment - it's just how it sounded to me, Dan. Which means I'm probably 120 degrees off course . But ain't that the fun of cover-ups? Hippo.
  2. ....and tonight Matthew, i'm going to be...Chuck Jackson! Hippo.
  3. Well, if it was West hampstead I can remember the night -and the kebab - I'd gone up with Greety and ady P and something that dave and I bother remember vividly is that on the drive back Radio Luxembourg aws on the car radio, we're playing grown up sherbet dabs in the back seat and just as we head down towards Cheltenham the dj (having played pop dross all the journey) played "When I'm gone" - so unexpected that as i say we both recall it clearly! Hippo.
  4. Interesting and thought provoking - looking forward to the follow-up. For myself, I reckon Wing and a Prayer Fife and Drum Corps disco version of "Baby face" was when it all started to unravel, but I expect the dreaded disco movement will be covered in Part 21 Hippo.
  5. ...True Image possibly? jerry
  6. Just thought it was very strange that I could actually understand what the dj said after it. Moooost unusual jerry.
  7. Close...here's the details- KYLE, MICHAEL WHY DO WE MAKE LOVE 1995 US WEB 01-MK-94 12" ISSUE ...never thought of playing it after "Believe in love" but damn, you're right! Then again, played it as a new release at the time and don't think I've played it since. Have to dig it out this afternoon! Jerry.
  8. I know, I know, I'll shut the door after me.....
  9. ...and for true anoraks its US chart debut was at no.91 on the Cashbox chart w/e 28 December 1963. Jerry.
  10. Totally agree with you Pete, couldn't have put it better myself. truly a ground-breaking track! Jerry.
  11. Don't know about Party Specials, but why do i have a "blue" taste in my mouth when I listen to that download? And why do I picture Dave Thorley spinning it on an emidisc at Stroud Sub Rooms (true!) And where was that recorded/
  12. Yes, you're correct Simon... Some of the confusion about the '63 issue may lie in rare soul folklore - "Harlem Shuffle" was truly a "Sleeper", its first UK issue was, I believe, 1965 but it was re-plugged (not reissued!) and played constantly on Sue over the years, culminating in the Island reissue in 1969 which got it into the UK top ten. . And IMHO the "fast" version ain't a patch on the original, sounds like a real "throwaway" job to me! Jerry.
  13. I'm still recovering from hearing 'Torture' for the first time 20 years (?) ago, as a spotty 14 year old. Regards Jim. link
  14. last time I saw Dave Wyse was some years back, he boasted about going to do's on the back of his sons scooter! Is he still as full-on as ever? Jerry.
  15. Probably that compilation brought it to most peoples notice Colin, I think (from memory) that Ian L had played it at the Mecca but in those heady times it was possibly a little too - ummm - sophisticated for some with its tempo changes and floaty bits (every home should have some!). But as a mate of mine from Bolton rightly says "tha' can't put a price on quality - and quality tunes last!" Jerry.
  16. Funnily enough, it got spun at Exeter last Saturday as well, causing lots of murmurs of approval in the bar, and a full dance floor as well. The revival is on Jerry.
  17. What about the other tracks Ian? anything else we'd know?
  18. Hmmm, that's a possibility! Jerry.
  19. Ah, that makes it easier .... Even Jon hasn't any idea of where or when...couldn't be Buzzard as I never got any further than the car park (the fated Yate revival which was cancelled at the last minute, at which point we high-tailed it up to Birmingham Locarno niter). Maybe our fashion expert can pinpoint it from Ady's ever-changing hairstyles? Come in Alison.... Jerry.
  20. Flynny alerted me to this, which dear kind Jon has put in the gallery...trouble is, I've absolutely no idea where and when it was taken. Is my memory finally shot? Jerry.
  21. Here's what I have in my collection - think there may have been an album as well around this time... TOWA TEI- LUV CONNECTION 1995 UK ELEKTRA SAM 1661 12" DEMO TOWA TEI-TECHNOVA 1995 US ELEKTRA 0-66141 12" ISSUE ...think I read this morning that he's doing some production on the next Kylie album!
  22. No problem with that Derek, as one who thinks Joi Cardwell is underrated! Picked up her "Run to you" on Eight Ball in an Oxfam shop the other day for pence, only trouble is, again, the vocal mix is over 8 mins - with that long an intro, even I could mix it perfectly! Back on the main topic, I've no recollection of a Drizabone track of that name either! Jerry.
  23. Ah, home of wonderful handwritten record lists in the days when even Amstrad was an unknown word! Was Ian the only person ever to slip a Jam Polydor demo onto his list? Jerry.
  24. It's actually only credited to Towa Tei, no mention of Ms. Cardwell - on the UK Elektra demo 12" anyway. Was there ever a edited version released? I love the track, played it to death before issue, but always thought it a tad long at 8 minutes plus! Jerry.
  25. Steve - was this the place which was a converted cinema or something? Went to several niters here, probably 1980-1981-ish, once going via London on the train, meeting up with Clarkie and co. at St. Pancras - I have a memory of Ian commandeering a supermarket trolley to get his record box from the station to the venue! Hippo.
