  1. I'm sorry but...for goodness' sake... https://cgi.ebay.com/THE-PAPER-DOLLS-SOMETH...1QQcmdZViewItem ...does the trade descriptions act apply to eBay? Hippo.
  2. No Simon, they're not - the UK issues are loud to the point of distortion though, aren't they? At first I thought it was just my copy and I still wonder if I should ever have got rid of my Jotis demo! Hippo.
  3. Has to be said that most - if not all - the Mirwood related Jay-boy reissues appear to have been dubbed from disc, not from the master tapes. However, the later Contempo releases were a lot better quality - think thay may have had direct dealings with Randy Wood/Fred Smith. And then in '75 Soussan got hold of those backing tracks............ Hippo.
  4. Apparently this was done to prevent bootlegging at the time of the original issue - be interesting to know how many other NS tunes have this, and whether it was just one pressing plant that made a habit of doing this.
  5. Forty is what I paid for it around four years ago from Ady Pierce - when I got it home I found my old mate Danny Everard's name scratched in the dead wax! Hippo.
  6. I've still got my demo - one of the "flood damage" ones, always a good way to know it's genuine! Hippo.
  7. .........the Petals? Hippo.
  8. What? You left them unattended within two minutes of my flat? Foooooooolish boy! BTW great to see you and a nice surprise! Hippo. (Having missed the post from Kev saying he was coming home for the first time in years, you can imagine my surprise when doing a completely non-NS disco I played a bit of Motown -as you do, looking for the odd one who knows how to dance - only this time, I thought "I know that girl's dancing style - but she and Kev are in Canada!" . Little did I know!)
  9. looks like you're safe, yours is a proper job! Boots have the same flip as the original, BTW.
  10. Thanks Dunc - yes, I meant to mention the black star! Hippo.
  11. If two Cheltenham boys say 150, then maybe you'd better get to the Saracens tomorrow night in case Ray Jackson's still thinking of selling his! Know for a fact he ain't asking 250plus. Why? Errr..it's my old copy! Hippo.
  12. My first was Stagemasters/Rita Dacosta from Pep, (with the Catacombs office stamp on the labels) then Earl Wright/Cool jerk (instr) - the Earl Wright, although a little hissy, had more balls than the later Capitol reissue. Then a real memory of St. Ives - Lorraine Silver/Taj Mahal/Chris Cerf/Jay D. Martin, and finally a cracking quality Professionals single-sider which I always regretted selling! Hippo.
  13. No chance...sold mine several years back for 125, and it's stayed around that figure since. 150 tops... Hippo.
  14. You're right on the '67 release date Pete, and the fact that original UK issue was on the Stateside 20xx series plus the U4km on US copies confirms that, but not all reissues/boots conform...where the original masters were used, or wher the bootleggers could confuse the issue even more, the original delta number was sometimes used. Buster and Eddie comes to mind... One thing though, why do the Hoagy Lands boots (or are they second presses?) have W4KM, which would date them to '68 (don't think V was actually used). That would date them to two or three years before it became popular, surely no-one was thinking that far ahead? Hippo.
  15. As in stamped, not scratched, Ted? Hippo.
  16. If you can hear me over the sound of creaking bones ...deffo Wigan stormer! Now where's me Ralgex....... Hippo.
  17. From memory, although the label says U4KM, the pressings/reissues have W4KM scratched in the dead wax. Hippo.
  18. What posessed the Lovelites to record "My conscience" and "Get it off my conscience"? Two songs with so similar titles couldn't have been good for sales? Oh, and for Grapevine to issue it as "Get it off my conscience" and "Get HIM off my conscience"? Confused of Cheltenham
  19. Looking at Manships auctions, he has a copy of Matt Lucas and says that it's never been booted. Yet deep in the recesses of my befuddled mind I seem to recall a warning in a Soul Time mag in about 1977 that there had been some pressings done in the States and they'd been seen over here. I take it the run-out groove will hold the answer - what's on a genuine copy? Hippo.
  20. I'd say you did OK there meself, although I rate the demos as slightly harder to find... Hippo.
  21. Yup - old spin of mine from Yate! The b-side, "Day by day", was revived on the US urban scene in the late '80's by Tashan. Have to say, most releases I've seen on the label had at least two variations, all done around the same time though. Hippo.
  22. Yup - old spin of mine from Yate. The other side, Day by day, was an '80s urban hit for Tashan. Most of the releases I've seen on the label have at least two different print runs. Hippo.
  23. Next time I'm walking through a shopping mall and hear Northern playing, instead of someone selling dodgy watches there'll be a furtive guy selling bootleg singles. Wonder who'd be in the frame for that? Hippo.
  24. That's rich coming from a Dursley boy!
  25. After work yesterday morning I was walking through Kings Walk shopping center in Gloucester when a tune came into my head..."Competition ain't nothing". Funny, I thought, why did I think of that? Then it dawned on me that it was coming from outside my (admittedly very small) brain , in fact it was coming over the small speakers that usually pump out muzak. Not beleiving what I was hearing, I waited for a minute, and was then treated to P.P. Arnold "Everything's gonna be alright", followed by Leon Haywoods "Baby Reconsider"! So who's behind it? An old Gloucester Torch-ite? Whatever, it did make me smile thinking of our "underground" scene! Hippo.
