  1. it was my black US issue which got nicked - Worcester Racecourse Soul Night...grrr...oh well, I'll make do with my US demo...
  2. Great stuff Pete - why is it that the sight of an April Stevens pink demo still makes one go "Ooooohhhh" after all these years? :-)
  3. Mine's the vinyl issue with red print, 1A and 1D matrix, with a pressing plant mark reading TVC (the T is on top of the V)...where would that plant be?
  4. As I've said on another thread, many of the early "rare soul" classics were being played as new releases at the Blue Moon here in Cheltenham in 1966/67; the Chateau Impney (recently revived ) was an important early venue, and that's well south of Birmingham...Coppertops in Worcester was going well before the end of the sixties as well...
  5. Confused of Cheltenham here...my boot of Jimmy Raye, bought as soon as it was pressed, has Hitch 'N Post, Jodax (BMI), TIME 2:35 on the right of the label, KKC S-002A on the left...matrix is scratched S-002 - B, with no other visible markings, and of course there's a brief but noticeable drop in the audio on the fade out.
  6. In his excellent book "Where did our love go", Nelson George describes the Temptations as "really two pairs of friends and one outsider (David Ruffin) with his own agenda". PS Thanks Snakepit for beating me to it while I found the quote!
  7. Now you're getting into the realms of fantasy - next thing you know, someone will say they DID have a copy of The Volumes on Pama :-) :-)
  8. I did when I were nobbut a lad...haven't heard it since it was a new release! Must go and find a soundclip! EDIT...blimey, I'd never connected it to Chris Cerf! I blame it on those little blue sweeties...;-)
  9. Either that or you have a residual memory of this UK duo...;-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXQ1a-cjXXE
  10. Tends to be Monday evenings for me...Adrian Corbin on Uckfield FM, then Gavin Page on Stomp Radio. I keep meaning to listen to more, but life's too short...ooh, I feel a plug for my show coming on...
  11. Word for word as above...I'd rather go to something like Ady Pierce's Soul Shuffles, plenty of soul, a good social crack, and proper beers as well :-) ...found record fairs soul-less in more ways than one, so never bother with them these days...
  12. From the same seller... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LESLIE-UGGAMS-I-JUST-CANT-HELP-BELIEVING-LOVE-IS-A-GOOD-FOUNDATION-SONDAY-7-/321398488110?pt=UK_Records&hash=item4ad4d7bc2e
  13. Great album, but check this, recorded live last weekend just down the road from me... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2v1gS_VRBU
  14. ...and several people used the name Leroy Brown, Herbert Hunter being one of them...and Jenny and the Jewels were apparently The Avons (Ref-o-Ree etc.)...funny how these things come round, I came by some of that info last week, Tony Rounce knows a lot more, and there's some info on Dave Rimmer's site as well. Nice one Pete!
  15. Me too - didn't know it was repressed that many times! The grey and silver design was being used around 78/79, as in this bit of disco funk from that time... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s71CyxQnpTo
  16. Crikey...I had that Sister Sledge for pennies back in the day...probably sold it for the same!
  17. "Harder and harder" Barry?...7 and 12" UK issue, I played the 7" on the show this morning...
  18. ...and from another side, the "rush" effect on Crown Heights Affair "Galaxy of love" where it breaks into the tune - that does it every time!
  19. The beginning of Sam Williams "Love slipped"...the key change in Lou Ragland's I travel alone"...just for starters!
  20. Hah ha ha ha ha...I'm rich I tell you, rich....(quick nurse, the screens!) :-) So in this twisted scenario, how much for my demo which probably cost me 50 pence?
  21. Had to laugh when I saw a copy of "more more more of your love" on a site listed as "only known green label copy" though!
  22. Forget the dodgy video, but here's the complete version (well, without part three...:-) ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjdioSAK7WQ
  23. And it's well worth getting hold of!
  24. Crossed wires there Jim - it was around the same time that the aforementioned dodgy promoter brought The Invitations over and made them tour as the All Star Drifters - still got a flyer somewhere - the ironic thing is that they were still recording at the time under their own name, and when they played our local club it's very likely that the DJ played "What's wrong with me baby" - without realising!
