  1. Steve, Stella is often out and about with her man Tim, usually at Soulfusion...haven't seen Paul and Jane for a year or two but they like fresh air and cycling more these days!
  2. I must live a very sheltered life, because I don't see that happening at our main events here in Gloucestershire - although there are several nights where it's more likely, so I don't bother with them. I toyed with buying the Little Tommy 7" that's doing the rounds at the moment, but decided against it as most people that I know and respect know darn well that I could never afford a proper one, so I could never play it out - and I have it on CD if I'm at home anyway...
  3. Yes, old Wheel tune, came out on UK London in 1963, but sounds very dated these days - to my ears anyway....
  4. US Fame demo here Martyn, don't bother with the British if you want to listen to it, it was dubbed from vinyl so sound quality isn't as good...and sorry mate, it's a keeper ;-)
  5. Trying not to make this thread just one long list - not long back I played Art Freeman's "Slipping around" when the crowd needed lifting...sure fire winner I thought...result? Tumbleweed! Funnily enough an old mate reported the same thing happened to him, same tune, last weekend. Anyone else stuck a "guaranteed floor filler" on the decks recently and had the opposite effect?
  6. No problem Ady, just delete it, wait a couple of months, then reissue it with the extra Bobby Angelle track, and call it a "Deluxe edition"!
  7. Finished my set at Soulfusion last night with Danny White "Cracked up over you" (big Catacombs tune 1971/2) - first time I've played it in years, went down a storm! There are so many great oldies just waiting to be spun again...
  8. Brings a whole new meaning to "mint condition"!
  9. You sure struck gold with that set son! :) Good to see you over the hols, roll on next year!
  10. HOW much? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/271730656405?clk_rvr_id=762128094015&item=271730656405&lgeo=1&vectorid=229508&rmvSB=true
  11. True Steve - it was definitely getting plays early 70's, enough for it to be repressed (for Selectadisc?)
  12. Well, I have to own up to being scammed in my youth...after all this time, my Fred Hughes turns out to be a boot...:-(
  13. Funny, I can't see it either! BTW in the "Soul Survivors" book, Russ lists it by its cover up artist...which begs the question, did he actually have an Arctic copy or just a dub he was fed?
  14. Hmmm...either I went to the decks and looked, or he told me it was Green Gruncheons? Hard to tell this long after...
  15. First scan I've ever seen! Nice...remember Gary Rushbrooke playing it when he guested down this way around 1980, never heard it since, guess I'll have to stick with my London issue of Jerry O. Value? Hard to tell as it comes around so infrequently!
  16. My day just got a lot darker yesterday - one of the best guys on the soul scene has died. RIP Tony Warot, thanks for the laughs, the tunes and the very dry humour! I was hoping to catch up with you out and about instead of messages, but I'll never forget your friendship over the decades.
  17. Maybe there was an ultra-underground scene that we knew nothing about Dave - after we disappeared home...
  18. Top man, thoroughly deserved - but don't forget that in 1978/9 Ady was an essential member of the "Backroom Boys" at Yate, supplying Ian Clark, Tony Ellis etc. with tunes and contributing to the crazy nights there...:-)
  19. Ho hum...Oh well, I'm pretty sure my memory is correct, but I'll just have to roll with it...for now...;-)
  20. Informative stuff as always Mr Rix...but can anyone remember what it was covered up as? I have a long running (good natured) argument with Flynn-san of Tokyo, who was far too young to be there :-) , but I can remember charging up to the stage at St Ives and yelling "what's this?"...and the answer came "The Sparkles - New Jersey Pike"...anyone confirm please?
  21. Yes, it's one of those tunes we all take for granted, and often pass over for a play because of that, but going through the boxes at the weekend the original fell into my hand...so I just thought it worth a spin!
  22. Take the long view Ady - in a few years time they'll be falling over themselves to pay silly money for deleted Kent 7's...hopefully, anyway! Went to bed last night re-reading the sleeve notes to the Pied Piper CD, a work of art in themselves, and it's only the lack of CD players at most venues that stop me playing more Kent cuts! Keep on doing what you're doing....
  23. Not me, for sure...just an item of curiosity value as far as I'm concerned...
  24. Spot on summary Mick...
