  3. Close...John Madara " Play the Game of love"...
  4. Back in the mists of time, I remember Tough Girl being massive at St Ives, so much so that I rushed to the stage to find out what it was...to be told that it was The Sparkles "New Jersey Pike"...now admittedly it was noisy, packed and the brain was racing anyway, but did I hear correctly? Over the years I've argued this with Flynn-san who has gone into print saying it was covered as The Sprinkles - New Jersey Connection, and he won't hear any different. Anyone confirm the cover-up for me please?
  5. Proper Ives monster - covered up as Mike Post "Feelings"! Was a bit embarrassed when I found out who it really was!
  6. Good stuff - isn't that copied in from one of Pete S's old pages?
  7. In Neil Rushtons book there are some scans of the EMis that SS sent Russ - J. D Martin is on one of them and several other tracks seem earlier than 77, so maybe Russ had it before then?
  8. Still about locally, saw him at Soulfusion last Saturday, he calls me at the radio studio every few days, and he'll be at the Gloucester niter tonight, still with many tales to tell
  9. Back on topic, I'd have to put forward Poppies - Pain in my heart, or The Jewells "We got togetherness"
  10. Of course...it just fitted in with the general insanity of the time!
  11. In the same vein, I was reminded last night about Brick and Harry...
  12. Hi Gilly, yes but what great times...one day someone will spill about the even heavier bits...and yes, I remember Daves van, even remember who he worked for at that time!
  13. It's all relative...weren't you ever in the car park at Yate when the normals night kicked out? Oh the stories that could be told...
  14. If you're lucky I'll dig it out and add it to the GFM hard drive library tomorrow morning so at least you can play it on your show on Wednesday!
  15. he he...yes, i'll be on that one tomorrow...if I can dig deep enough into the wardrobe...
  16. Agreed Eddie, I was pleasantly surprised how well he came over.
  17. That explains a lot - couldn't work out the sudden escalation on that, certainly can't be that rare as I seem to remember boxes of 'em around at one time?
  18. Good choices too Sean - and yes, there were some pretty wild nights at the BH!
  19. Can't wait for my annual visit, cramming a years worth of tunes and chat into an hour or so...have a good flight son, kettle will be on and decks fired up! Dad
  20. Came in a picture bag as well...!
  21. Who? Me? Surely not....
  22. Oh yes, he did a lot to push soul in Cheltenham and Gloucester as he was resident at the Spa Lounge at the end of the 60's/start of the 70's, went on to be a record plugger at Arista, havn't heard of him since the late 80's though. Also published "Collectors Soul" fanzine...ads for Art Freeman for 32/6d etc...
  23. So who first discovered Tony Clarke "Landslide"? And can you remember the buzz it gave you when you first heard it?? I can!
  24. Great story Dave, more in this vein please! THIS is what it's all about, the thrill of the chase, the smell of vinyl...
  25. So who discovered Jerry Williams "If you ask me" then? I know the story about Jinksy finding it on Spanish Exit, but was that the first? And how many Exit copies have been found? Come in Steve Smith and/or Rich Selwood...
