  1. There's another reason of course. Many sellers and buyers feel that... ...DELETED at request of seller / buyer Seriously though - refusing to buy off someone who won't tell you exactly for how much they sold an unrelated record to a buyer you may not know. Isn't that cutting off your nose to spite your face a bit?
  2. Loleatta Holloway version too but that's another slowie. Change of heart here Imber me old boy - I remember you slagging disco records a couple of years ago
  3. Australian one for you here Mick. I'm sure there's a European issue too ( Germany?) As for the Inferno release, I remember a 12 inch with a remix of Gloria Jones Tainted Love and some tracks on the flip including Compared... called 6ts House Party or something like that. Not sure about an Inferno seven though. Have we counted the fairly recent Soul City reissue?
  4. I assume they are the same band as the one of the same name that released an album on Cotillion - thought to be a Long Island NY outfit? Wonder how they ended up recording in the UK if that's actually the case.
  5. Wasn't the only source for that though was it? We also had older kids at school, our own/mates older older siblings, youth clubs, other midweek soul clubs and then at the allnighter, Dave Evison's spot and a smattering of oldies played as part of other DJ's sets. You could also lean a hell of a lot in the back bar too. After a dabble I got bored with M's after a month or two and this coincided with getting my head around what made the main room unique in atmosphere and opportunity to hear exciting new sounds. I could hear Trampoline, Time is Tight and countless Bob Brady records at home. M's also recycled tunes that had previously been big in the main hall which seemed really pointless to me. Meanwhile I'd be dancing to stuff that I didn't know almost every week as jocks introduced their new stuff so frequently.
  6. Ah. I remember this one. It was done by the Variety Club to raise funds for their 'Sunshine Coaches' that provide support for disadvantaged and disabled kids* * Well it's as likely as the breakfast cereal story...
  7. Is that rumour or just speculation? Has anyone connected with either the record or the maker of breakfast cereals designed to stop teenage boys masturbating (allegedly!)
  8. It was nearer to the end Dave. Certainly after the Lou Reed bit as I'd just spent a few moments explaining to a gentleman holding a flare who Lou was. Not sure how it cam across on telly but from where we were Bobby's voice sounded sort of weary in a magnificent way.
  9. Well, given the ambitious nature of what they were doing and the fact that the so many different people were involved, I thought that getting two appearances from Bobby was ok. The second song (Cloud of Unknowing?) had my hair standing up.
  10. Recordmania in the Davygate Centre They also did in good line in compilation tapes that were actually blank when you go them home, but I think that was down to disorganisation rather than malicious intent.
  11. Explosions - Garden of Four Trees (hell of a tune too)
  12. ...and of course Little Ann - Sweep it out in the Shed
  13. Drifters - Up on the Roof 5th Dimension - Carpet man Shirtails - The Ceiling Shawne Jackson - Get out of the Kitchen Could we stretch to Carl Henry Hall...
  14. East Riding Council have been have been aggressively marketing their venues, particularly the Spa, in direct competition with Scarborough Borough Council who operate the Whitby one. I think it's likely that the Brid venue will therefore be quite a bit cheaper to hire. That was one (but far the only) reason why the Musicport World Music festival relocated from Whitby to Bridlington in 2008. No axe to grind here by the way - just a bit of local perspective. I actually love both venues and can't wait to see the result of the developments currently underway at the Spa in Scarborough too. Godz
  15. I think Matt means anticipate as in to have a pretty good idea about something that's going happen - based on feel, what's happened before or or how it works in similar cases. Guessing sounds like something less evidence based. Fact is, if it's blues based record, as tons of soul records are, you can see the changes coming about a week beforehand.
  16. Yep: Fortune Bravos "One Stop" - Flip of Spyder Turner's first 45 "Ride in my 225"
  17. and one side of the seven inch in question. Note same sleeve design.
  18. I think it will actually be 6615. There's also a ten inch version of the EP with three extra tracks by Soul Sisters, Righteous Brothers and someone else (Charlie + Inez Foxx maybe?). If I had to guess I'd say released around 1979/80.
  19. Forgot about about that. It was part of the British Electronic Foundation (BEF) Box that was essentially Heaven 17 with loads of guest singers wasn't it? Not as good as The Fall
  20. The Fall did an excellent cover
  21. DJ: "Me? Educate people? Goodness me no. I'm not a teacher - in fact I can hardly string a coherent sentence together!"
