  1. Regular viewers will know how this goes but here's a quick summary for any new potential contestants: It's a quiz that's free to enter and you get more fun the more you put into it. No egos here so anyone can have a go. I'll put up a pic of a white dud or dudette with little to do with Soul music - except at least one record that been played on the Northern Soul scene. You can ask questions and I might answer but it will probably be 'yes' or 'no'. Simple as that. Pic in next post...
  2. Detention that girl!
  3. You're in! Pass in on Matt
  4. Forget those Sunday night blues and come and have a laugh along with your Soul Source pals with the stupid "guess the whitey soul artist' quiz. 7pm kick off tonight. Hopefully see some of you there. Tell your pals! Cheers Godz
  5. That's a top idea kev and I'm going to do exactly that - but I'll mix it up with some general wants to see if anyone spots it As for your two - nice try losers Actually I'm in danger of building it up to be something more earthshaking than it really is. In reality it's just a nice tune that has the kind of sound that I'm into these days. Just surprised that it doesn't appear to have be played much. Or maybe Bearsy's right after all and it's crap...
  6. Here's one of the boots:
  7. I think that the theme of the thread is right though - all that Soul music certainly was responsible for the death of Wiigan Oh - hang on a minute. Maybe I should read that title again...
  8. Three guesses then Dave?
  9. You're right, six months is not long. To be precise though, I've wanted it a while longer but only got round to making it a saved search when it became obvious that I wasn't going bump into casually. By the time I registered the search I'd missed two on ebay - even though there hadn't been any for a couple of years before. They went cheaply too. Entirely my fault of course. Good luck with your search Lars
  10. Can't argue with that Mouldie. Actually I don't mind it - probably because it was the first version I heard back in 1984. Apparently they wrote it too according the credits - despite Jack Hammer's being about 16 years earlier...
  11. Nice try Dylan. And you Mr Tag Pretty much the advice I expected, so thanks. Thing is though, despite the lack of discussion it's not THAT obscure. I'll definitely bid over double what it's previously sold for though. Six months is too long when you get the bug - as you all know all to well.
  12. Got a demo of the Soft Cell version... ... coat, AND hat got. Out of here....
  13. ok here's my dilemma: There's a 45 that i desperately want. Copies turn up now and again and they don't go for an awful lot of cash. So far, so normal. The problem is that the record is hardly, if ever, mentioned on this or other forums. I've also had it saved in my ebay searches for over six months now but not a sniff. The problem is that I can only assume that the reason it's not discussed is that it's not at all well known. I'm sure that if more people were aware loads of people would be raving about it and it would be in the wants and play lists of many others. So: If I post a want, people on here will research, listen and - I'm confident - the demand would zoom. My other alternative is to just be patient and wait. But I just NEED it. Actually I think I've just answered my own question and I have to keep it to myself for now. Thanks for sharing my anguish though
  14. Sorry Ted - Rarer the other way round. Nice try though
  15. Exactly what I had mind Bob. Seriously though I don''t mind if someone says a record is overpriced. I don't spend all my free time reading guides or checking fluctuations on eBay, although I try to do a bit of research and I sometimes rely on my shaky memory. If someone states that a certain 45 is overpriced It might tip me off to the fact that I've overvalued it and I could adjust the price. On the other hand I'm not obliged to sell cheaper if I don't want to and retain the power to say 'get lost' ...
  16. Shipping for up to 2 x 45s: £1.00 1st Class / £1.80 Recorded Delivery in the UK. £2.00 overseas + insurance if required. Questions etc are as always welcome by PM or email to: mistergodzilla@yahoo.com Grading VG/VG+/VG++/NM I've tried to grade strictly and a VG+ record will play really well but might have some surface marks. NM is as good as it gets and even unplayed old store stock gets this grade. I've noted any particular defects and will accept returns on any items where the buyer is not completely satisfied. Denny Belline - Outside The City - RCA Promo 8 5 Name on flip. Vinyl VG++ Old Northern spin - Alternative version to Willows on MGM Denny Belline.mp3 Maxine Brown - 4 track EP Inc "See And Don't See" - Commonwealth United Records Promo - HOLD Graded VG- as there are audible scratches. Maxine Brown.mp3 Ann Cole - Brand New House - Sir promo 25 15 VG + great copy Pluggers stamp on label Well they've booted / repressed a couple of her decent Baton sides so best stay ahead of the gane with this nice Sir promo Ann Cole.mp3 The Collection and the Civics - I'll Be There - Soul Train SOLD VG Some marks and wear but plays very nicely for this grade - check the soundclip Excellent Baltimore dancer - has had plays on and off but never quite made it big yet - maybe because it's not quite well known enough? For now anyway... 18. Think Prophonics means like this: Just a random silver blue verve. Out of interest any know what the score is with different colours? I've had some on both black and blue. Tommy Yates and Imperial Show Band - "Darling, Something's Gotta Give" comes to mind .
  19. That's the boot Mike
  20. Am I being a bit thick here? (don't all shout at once...) My copy looks the same as this one from popsike and I can't tell any difference in the lettering size between this and the black logo one.
  21. Yep. Here's the CD
  22. I smell a Johnny Watson... I'm fairly sure both sides were available on best of billy Harner Cd so the tracks are certainly available. I also recall that someone was selling a load of V Tone original label blanks around five years ago or so ago. Not that those facts are necessarily related. Makes you think though, eh?. Naturally I just bought one of course
  23. I've seen references to a singer called "James Coit Jackson" aka Jimmy Jackson, born 1945.
  24. Thanks again everyone. If you didn't join in I'd just be ranting on my own - although Mrs G says nobody would ever notice the difference. A bit like "the counting man" in Scarborough who walks though the town centre shouting "One! Two! Three! Four!"... .. I digress... Like I said, next time I'll not drop clues that are not quite so obvious but I'll avoid the really obscure artists. In fact it'll be Dana Valery. oh bugger Goodnight.
  25. Marie Knight on Okeh?
